I loved it. For the life of me I can't understand how so many people have issues with "slow" tv, or "slow burn". Do they just expect explosions and gunfights all the time?
The reality is, for the payoff to be really good, it needs to be set up.
The tension is there, you can just sense the fraying of the characters, and I kind of liked the way they all met at the end, and the symbolism of that. I'm fascinated to see how the disparate threads will be woven.
I said to my wife whilst watching it: "I just ******* love how tv these days doesn't take you for an idiot. It doesn't spoonfeed you. I have no idea what's going on, but I know it will come together". We spent the first half of the episode trying to work out what year it's set in. It doesn't assume you're an idiot and give you blatant glaring clues and I ******* love that
Very promising Ep 1, liked the way IRA guy from Sons of Anarchy has become a Russian
I agree with this.Everyone raves about McConaughey but it was Woody Harrelson who won me over![]()
And so glad they did!I was surprised that they went for Nick Cave at the end instead of Linkin Park.
Thats how it felt to me, trying to hard to make lotsa little Rust characters and a deep and tense atmosphere..it just came completely natural in the last season. I'll watch it again a few times, I did enjoy the acting for the most part and I'm sure it will get better but yea needs some simple down to earth stuff and less dimmed lights and yellow faces.I agree with this.
I think the writer's have got too carried away with the success of the Rust character. What made him good was the dynamic between him and Marty. Rust would say something cringeworthy like "I don't sleep... I dream" and Marty would look at him like he was the weirdest bloke on earth.
This season hasn't got a Marty to counteract the middle school edginess yet and I don't think it will. Instead we have 3 actresses/actors trying to ape McConaughey and create an iconic character in the exact same vein.
I was surprised that they went for Nick Cave at the end instead of Linkin Park.
I'd agree. I think in hurricane that was Rust, Woody got overlooked. He was fantastic.I agree with this.

Made the show imo..its the characters that grab you from the beginning, the strength of the acting and the excitement of seeing somethng a bit different and new. So much tv is now same old same old blah blah but every now and then you get one that just effortlessly pulls you in and doesn't need strange lighting or gimmicks. I will always think of Harrelson as Marty now, so strong was his role. McConaghey was superb too but just a little too OTT and drawn out.I'd agree. I think in hurricane that was Rust, Woody got overlooked. He was fantastic.
The girl that Viagra dude was with was she the missing sister or just looked similar?
