agree the show has a few issues, Vaughn isn't working (& imo the article below pretty much nails why) but the story is working for me so far, see what happens.
Why Vince Vaughn is the worst part of 'True Detective' Season 2
The article says 'very little of it is Vaughn's fault', by what it's really saying without being too harsh about it is Vaughn doesn't have the range as an actor. I guess he's not being helped by the writing in spots. Also don't know if I agree with the central thrust of the article about the best bad guys being largely kept of screen - thought season 1 Daredevil's Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) was the best screen villain I'd seen in years and he had almost as much character development as the hero.
what was up with that vagina rock in the therapist's office?
Jesus Christ Marie it's a mineral!Its a crystal isn't it?

...well go figure...I thought Vaughan's character was a sympathetic **** up...not a baddie like the article says...is the writing that bad that I have missed the point that he is a bad ass? I thought the rat scene underpinned the vulnerability of someone losing an empire?
I'm staying away from previews!Just watched it, very good episode. I sat dumbfounded after the last scene until it showed a preview.
They shit all over freeways in Sydney and Melbourne, especially if you avoid peak hours.Driving on them is worse than anything TD can dish up....

First time I ever drove in LA I found it much easier than driving in Sydney (and I'd lived in Sydney). I'd gotten used to driving on the wrong side in Denver driving a manual, when I got to LA it was an auto convertible - I found the driving to be a piece of piss!I think its more the mind mess that is driving on the other side of the road and finding exits etc.

Yeah. After last season where the killer turned out to be some incest-loving, strange-English accent-speaking, singlet-wearing backwater hick and none of the speculated 'sub-plots' went anywhere, when all the deliberately placed background clues were pointing to something much deeper and darker, I wouldn't be surprised to see more of the same this season in spite of the reaction of last season. Hopefully the conclusion isn't as underwhelming this time.i'm surprised they havent gone more over the top with that stuff already, actually. after the reaction that type of background image got last season i expected them to go into full on troll mode.
plenty of time left, though.
LA freeways.

The artciles doing the rounds about the 'real town' of Vernon, which what Vinci are clearly based upon are interesting. Talk about corruption.
Links to some of the better ones?
Yer that was some David Lynch shit right thereReally digging this season, unsure of why it's copping flak. It's a slow burn, which I like cos I have patience as long as the story is presented well.
That opening scene was awesome with the Elvis impersonator dude. Farrell is a star. Liking Kitsch as well. I've always rated Vaughn dramatically and although he's not quite shining here... I think his character is building nicely.
