With the subscription to the AFL Live App this year you can now access some stuff from Champion Data that wasn't available in previous years, and one of them is the player and team heat maps.

If people are interested I can try and post these throughout the year, because they show some interesting stuff, particularly you can see our use of the corridor compared to that of the Bulldogs.

Maps for the midfielders are very interesting. None of them are forward of centre :(

Thanks q

Masten is the one that sticks out. Way too much ball in the back 50 for a player who's strength is kicking into our forward arc

I can't help but think this thread would be better if I wasn't colourblind.

So I don't know about you, but I see a picture of a sailboat if I stare at it long enough?

A lot of players jammed down back. Perhaps we over reacted/compensated seeing Brown go down. Elliot Yeo 100% defensive means he didn't even get 1 chance to offer us some drive forward. Add to that, Shuey & Mastens time in defensive half and you can see why we only had 40 inside 50's.

Really shows how the game was played in our defensive half. Shows too how poor a game Lycett had.
Need a lot more from our midfield on Friday. I hope i won 't be saying that too often this year.

One thing I found interesting was Luke Shueys time on ground stat was only about 75%. Anyone know why our best mid wasn't on the ground for a quarter of the game?

Shuey was interesting 63% time down back yet doesn't accumulate many possessions there.

Great post though Quinz. Interesting reading

Would love to see this on a weekly bases thanks Quinz. A few things that I noticed looking through these maps

1) Jamie Cripps, Matt Rosa and Andrew Gaffs work rate. Covered alot of ground unfortunately in the back half.

2) The lack of work rate from Luke Shuey and Matt Priddis

3) Lecca spending far to much time up forward

Thats going to be Lecca's role now though especially with Darling out.

second and third quarters were our best imo and the map shows get up the guts and into em

Confirms my suspicion: Once we lost Brown our run off HB disappeared as they had to drop back, hence our midfield had to do the same in order to force the ball forward which is why the heat for the mids is around the middle rather than middle/forward... That will be fixed for Friday but I thought we did okay considering it shook our whole structure up.

Cripps is the one for me. His workrate going by that for a HFF is exeptional. So glad he was rewarded with those goals.

Scooter on the other hand, looks like he spent literally the entire game in one half of the ground. Match fitness obviously an issue.
