Gotta laugh at Selwood coming in 9th.........the only argument is if he was just better or just worse than Ablett this year, as one of the best 2 players in the comp by a fair distance!

Also, Selwood picking up no vpoints in the match versus Sydney? He was up there with Johnson and Stokes as BOG that day.

Didnt bother with the rest after seeing that!

Fair enough Skeppers. Selwood did dominate that day, but obviously wasn't recognised by all the media outlets. A score of 242 in a seven goal win would normally have got him four points, but the others scored more on this occasion.

Hahahahaha, funny stuff. Go and have a read of the Brownlow Medal thread in the punting board to see what people who keep real tallys are saying regarding who is leading the Brownlow Count this year.

If we use past Brownlow Medal votes (which is quite a valid way to assess midfielders actually), Selwood has outperformed Pendlebury, if only slightly.

I think Ablett overall is still the best, with Selwood just ever so slightly above Pendlebury, but i am biased! If we also add in leadership......Selwood above everyone!!!

2012.
Pendlebury - 15 votes (4 games missed). Selwood - 14 votes (2 games missed)
2011.
Pendlebury - 24 votes. Selwood - 17 votes (4 games missed)
2010.
Pendlebury - 22 votes. Selwood - 21 votes

Don't know where you are getting your stats. Selwood may have covered Pendlebury early days but Pendlebury polls more Brownlow votes than Selwood now.

Fair enough mate. I have to appreciate those who put effort into things like this, like you clearly have!!

Where do the scores some from? What does a score of 242 mean?

Another thing, I cant really fathom Pendlebury and Swan getting almost 280 points combined for the season, when if they had won every single game the maximum that 2 players at a club could score, by getting 10 and 9 each match would be 419........they just havent been that dominant in wins and losses!

Looking through Selwood, he was on 30 after 4 rounds, and only scored another 79 for the remainder of the season. Just cant see it.............

I did the calcs back to 2007, when Selwood started in the AFL. Thats where I am getting my stats!

Points are recorded from the best player lists from six different media sources – the AFL website, The Age, Sportal, Seven West Media, Dream Team and Super Coach, with the best player for each team scoring 100 from each source, down to 90, 80, 70 and so on.
This score out of 600 is then recalculated to produce a score out of 500.
Then - for the scores of 10 down to 1, the following table is applied....

Points are accrued as follows:
If the match is a draw: both teams receive 10, 8, 6, 4, 2
Result 1-9: winners get 10, 8, 6, 4, 2; losers get 9, 7, 5, 3, 1
Result 10-29: winners get 10, 9, 6, 5, 2; losers get 8, 7, 4, 3, 1
Result 30-59: winners get 10, 9, 8, 4, 3; losers get 7, 6, 5, 2, 1
Result 60-99: winners get 10, 9, 8, 7, 6; losers get 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Result 100+: winners get 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5; losers get 4, 3, 2, 1

Re: Pendlebury and Swan, what is says is they are consistently the best two for Collingwood, and they fall away a bit after that - you can see that there are no other Collingwood players in the Top 50. Pendlebury scored in 19 of 22 games but only three 10s, one 9.5 (equal best) and two 9s. Swan also scored in 19 of 22 games, picking up five 10s and four nines.

Selwood had seven best on grounds (10 points) and three second bests (9), which account for 97 of his 109 points. But he only scored in three other games (7, 4, 1) - it suggests he should probably finish higher than ninth in the Brownlow, but will rely on a lot of 3s because he was outside his club's top five in nine of his games.

So, my club B&F predictions are: (And yes, I do know some clubs have already counted their votes, but this is what I had. These predictions (for the 10 teams to miss the finals) are based on the traditional 2013 Top 10 players list (the first one from the rankings lists above)

Greater Western Sydney: 1 Callan Ward 62; 2 Jeremy Cameron 44.5; 3 Adam Treloar 44; 4 Dylan Shiel 40.5; 5 Lachie Whitfield 28

Melbourne: 1 Nathan Jones 78; 2 Colin Sylvia 43; 3 Dean Terlich 33.5; 4 Colin Garland 31.5; 5 Jack Viney 27
North Melbourne: 1 Brent Harvey 79; 2 Daniel Wells 78.5; 3 Drew Petrie 56; 4 Andrew Swallow 55; 5 Jack Ziebell 53

St Kilda: 1 Leigh Montagna 114; 2 Jack Steven 89.5; 3 Nick Riewoldt 77; 4 David Armitage 49; 5 Nick Dal Santo 47

West Coast: 1 Matt Priddis 93.5; 2 Chris Masten 72.5; 3 Scott Selwood 70.5; 4 Josh Kennedy 67; 5 Dean Cox 53.5
Western Bulldogs: 1 Tom Liberatore 89; 2 Ryan Griffen 86; 3 Will Minson 64; 4 Adam Cooney 60; 5 Matthew Boyd 42.5

surely priddis can't win our B&F.

Griffen and Libba will be toe and toe and I reckon you got the others, although Jeremy Cameron should go close at GWS.

Tom Rockliff should be a million miles in front at Brisbane.
