Get the f*** of Hughesys back.... Did anyone actually hear his statement?!!

It was probably an off the cuff remark which has been taken out of context and blown out of all proportian by the Hun.

BTW, why does everyone seem to give a crap about this? I certainly don't. I don't care about Abletts feelings (he's a big boy) and I don't give a crap about what the hun writes.

We all know that you either love or hate us so what's it matter if the papers hate us.

Geez, some of you are starting to sound like gary 'cry baby' ablett yourselves.....

Probably one of the worst calls ive heard at a game of footy. It just proves that a lot of people are correct by calling Collingwood 'scum'!

Beat up a players Dad one week, tell a player that his Dad is a murderer the next week...

You're drawing a long bow here junior. That guy that beat up Brad Jones was just a moron looking for a fight, he didn't know that it was a players dad. It just happened to be at the football. He left early despite us clearly winning just to egg on Melbourne supporters, that's not what a true supporter or one part of an official or unofficial cheer squad would be like. What the renegade squad did was nothing more than unpublished slander. Grow a pair.

If I wanted to draw a longer bow, I would suggest the boos and taunts thrown at Alan Didak are just as bad seeing as Didak was cleared of any wrong doing, whilst Ablett snr had drugs on his person. Perhaps the grog squad should be more accurate and chant "You're dad's a crackhead?" that would be more tasteful would it?

While we're talking generalisations I wouldn't be throwing stones in glass houses, shouldn't you be throwing them at your coach? Or perhaps throwing chicken shit and spitting at him is the Richmond way?

Geez i'd hate to have something to do with the Brisbane Lions at the moment. Who knows what could happen during or after the game on Friday!

well you've shown your true colours you bloody hero. Guess you'll be the next guy on the news except you'll be looking for Collingwood supporters instead of Melbourne supporters?

I agree totally with the comments that the HS is just a tabloid trash mag now and should largely be avoided.

Just as a side note, how have u handled, or how would u handle, being at a game and hearing chants about Darren Millane?

Well where to start..... Millane died in a tragic car accident. Gary Ablett Sen isn't dead.

OMG .... imagine if chalk was cheese.......

Well clearly they are different circumstances, but some people would argue that the question of taste is similar. I wouldnt say either of those things to someone on the street, but its funny how it can be appropriate to yell it at a football game.

But its been going on for a hundred years and im sure it will continue.

You sound like a top bloke mate..... I'd like to think that I'm a fairly considerate person.... and my guess is that the majority on these forums are nice people.

But when you get that many people together and add alcohol, there is bound to be scum appear and Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond etc seem to have their fair share of dregs!

Maybe it's to do with the big supporter base or the fact Collingwood isn't the classiest suburb of Melbourne I'm not sure..... but what I do know is that we are stereotyped more than any other club in the league.
For most of us, this has been happening since we were only very little and we are used to it and occassionaly, we like it. However, we are not all in a gang, and we do not all lower ourselves to the levels that the w***** did on the weekend. I've actually still got all my teeth!!!! (Moccasins are a big fave though.... :P)

I'm 'fairly' sure Gary didn't have a tear about it after the game so why should we.

It really isn't equal bad taste, insulting someone who is dead is in a totally different league of bad taste and depending on the circumstances and what is says flirts very dangerously with the boundaries of bad taste and plain offensive.

I love the irony. You do realise that you are a Richmond supporter? Well, you have Richmond as your listed club, so I assume you are, ever stood with your grog squad? If you havn't, go stand with them for a game and listen to some of the things they sing, if you have then shut your hypocritcial mouth you filth.

Unfortunately there are the do - gooders and then there are the normal people.

Any chance to dig at the pies is a good chance.....

The Hun will rally the rest of the country to dig, dig, dig.

I just wish the boys could rally for their own purposes more often like they did with the didak/shaw debarcle last year.

Gawd, we must be getting soft in this age of enlightenment, you should have heard what was said 20 /30 years ago.

What about Jimmy Buckley, every time he went near the ball after he had that car crash that in which a friend of Rollo Roylance died?

The chanting was probably what you would consider poor taste but I am sure it happens every week and probably at every game.

I'm sure Gary Jnr has heard worse and it is something he would probably have to deal with on a semi-regular basis and I am sure he can cope with it.

Hughesy - well Hughesy probably only goes to Carlton games normally and is probably used to going corporate. Lost the common touch has the Warnambool lad....

It's a non-issue really.....

I dunno Fu, What did people say every time Jimmy Buckley went near the ball...??

I can now see that pessimism about the Collingwood FC has come with age.....:p

Well, dozens of sick jokes etc did come out about Millane, with no regard to his friends or family. If it was nowadays there would be a song on u-tube. Don't worry non Collingwood fans can be cruel tasteless arseholes, just as well as we can.

Im pretty sure that there is not a person alive in the world today who would like to hear chants like that against there dad. Fair enough if it was personal abuse leveled at him directly....but i think that is pushing things to extreme.

Again though, i would expect that this is another media beat-up to keep suckers like you and me discussing non-relevant stuff and to sell a few papers.....I wish that people involved in media would realise that i would rather read the story of how ****ing good Ablett was again and again and again over some drunken incident that may or may not have occured. Perhaps the AFL could take note too and realise that more people actually enjoy and tune into the football when we aren't debating the merits of a bit of physical contact (onfield!), issuing club bans for stuff that is all speculation, paying 50 m penalties for runner infringements and suspending players for tapping an umpire over the shoulder. FFS i just wanna watch the footy!

Agreed. I didn't mean that it would not effect Gary Jnr, just that I think it is one of those things that is not a one-off and is something he will just deal with and continue on as best he can.

The Herald Sun, that weasel Hutchy and everyone else associated with this kind of "journalism" are all whores. Except they are not selling themselves off as much as they are AFL and the people that pay are us.

Realistically most sensible people realise that every team has pockets of supporters that push the boudaries of taste, but the way this story has come out makes it look like all collingwood people are like this, when clearly its not the case.

Why oh why, does the AFL make it mandatory for players and coaches to do a certain amount of media work per year when the media is as tabloid and trashy as a womens magazine?

because those trashy tabloids publicise the game for the AFL.

I honestly don't think that any propaganda journalism that is consistently served up does anything to credit footy as an interest...

For as long as i can remember, people who flick immediately to the back of the paper will allways peruse through team lists, injury lists, game reports and analysis (even that of Robert Walls) before they flick to the BS articles and 'special' commentary on the state of affairs within the game - likely to be lead by Gary Lyon, Caroline Wilson and a host of other crap journalists.

All the controversy generating stories - which i think really took off around the early/mid 90's (Ablett Retirement, Milane controversy, Carey touching a Boob) don't actually seem to attract any geniune interest. 95% of posters on Big Footy will prefer to talk about how good/shit their side and personnel is before the even begin to worry about rubber chickens and drunk fans....

My missus, her friends and any other female that has a fleeting interest in football don't really seem to give a toss about whether or not Franklin or Cousins has passed/failed a drug test. Certainly, they would never buy a paper to find out more about a story....if they want gossip they will head to who weekly, who report 100 x better sensationalist stories about real celebrities with real ****ed up problems.

I don't get it. More people want pure footy - less crap, yet we are continually served up this false controversy, on a daily basis. As i said before, FFS just play the ****ing footy allready!
