Who's better?

Not who will be the better captain, who is more important to Hawk's structure, just straight out who is the better player?

Sam is a great player for us but Hodge is better.
You're welcome to comment on the captaincy, just don't vote with captaincy in mind.

I only put it in there because some people do the: well I think Mitchell's a better player but Hodge will be Captain Courageous so he'll be more important etc etc etc. I just want to make sure it's a clean poll and people just pick who they think is the better footy player.

I've always felt Hodge is the man to captain this team. Who knows what goes on inside the club, but when I see Luke Hodge talk I get the impression he's a fine leader.

On their best days, Hodge for sure: stronger, faster (who isn't?), better kick. But both equally important to the team....

I think Hodge is a better on field leader but of field as in media etc Hodge is terrible, he find it very hard to string a coherent sentence together but he is getting better at it.

I was more thinking presence. I don't care how good his media/public speaking skills are (as you said, these will develop with time) as they have little to do with leadership. Mitchell is good with media and I'm guessing a fine captain, but when I see Hodge I just think he has this presence. Of course I don't know if it's actually there, but my gut tells me he's the man and will be a fine leader.

Hodge, clearly. Anyway it doesn't matter, they play for the same team so it's irrelevant. I hate polls featuring players from the same team, they both play for the same thing it's irrelevant who's better as long as they both perform for their club, and they do.

As a Hawk supporter, I would like to see Mitchell as captain and Hodge as VC.
Of course, that is after Vanders is done being captain. If Mitch and Hodge can give 50% of what Vanders does off the field for his team mates, we'll have done well.:thumbsu:

Hodge.
He is more damaging, and runs and carries the ball alot more. His aggression in the packs and his footskills, although inconsistant at times, can cut a team apart. See the Geelong/Hawthorn game at Shell Stadium 2006.
In 2005, he was a pleasure to watch as he regularly delivered the ball deep into our forward 50 from centre clearances.
Injury in 2006 held him back, but an injury free 2007 and we will see just how good Hodge can be.
If it's onfield captaincy we are looking for then Hodge may have an edge, but by no means could you count out Mitchell. He was not given the famous Crimmin's number for no reason.

Mitchell is an outstanding inside midfielder. Looks like a pretty boy, but is always on the bottom of the pack taking the hits. I have nothing but pure respect for where Sam has come from and how hard he has worked to get there.

The two of them hold out future hopes in thier hands.

Hodge is certainly the better player.

He would possibly be third only to Matthew Pavlich and Adam Goodes in terms of playing diversity, and Pavlich is the best player (outright) in the competition for mine (with Goodes not far behind him).

Note: Before people give me a mauling, I'm NOT saying Hodge is the third best player in the comp.

Mitchell is a super professional in the Crawford mold, is important to the side, and gets every ounce out of himself (despite clearly trailing Hodge for talent).

Mitchell appears to have more off-field polish (at this point) and would be my choice for Hawthorn captain in 2008.
