Very interested about Simpson's constant claims that the make up of the squad will be 'completely different'

Not actually expecting it to be that different but it will make the off-season interesting to follow at least.

Don't care how low we drop next year, I just want to see some meaningful change.
He also constantly claimed we were playing plenty of kids throughout the year despite playing the least out of any team by a fair margin

He was referring to the retirees and Brophy. If you think lecras is going anywhere but plonking his slow, fat ass in the forward line, prepare yourself.

Cut: LeCras, Masten, Giles, Hill

Keep: Mackenzie, Schofield, Wellingham

Don't think Cripps and Hutchings come under discussion considering they played in the side all year

lol @ people thinking we delist / retire 10+ players.

Would love to see how you posters think we go about drafting... what player at pick 105 do you think will offer more than Schofield/Lamb/Masten/Wellingham/Lecras/Hutchings?
We can definitely get draft picks for some of those players. Keeping the likes of masten is not helping us when Someone like the suns would be prepared to give up a 3rd or 4th round pick. I'd be wrapped going to this draft with 3 3rd rounders.

Using OP's list

- Lecras - open to keeping him on the list as depth but shouldn't get a game unless Rioli, Partington, Venebales, etc are injured
- Masten - no use to us anymore; would be valuable to one of the Queensland teams while their young guys develop; keep on the list as depth under the same conditions as LeCras if a trade cannot be made
- Schofield - still AFL quality but surplus to requirements with Barass' development would be a good addition to a team like Collingwood while they develop youth
- Wellingham - same as Masten
- Hill - a passenger for far too long; needs to go
- Giles - keep*
- Mackenzie - keep

Giles might be an odd one to keep but we get Nic and Lycett back next season and they would have to be tremendously unlucky to spend long periods on the sidelines again. Vardy has been immense for us this year and deserves a spot in our starting 22 but realistically, we have no place for him. That leaves a 26 year-old AFL-quality ruckman lingering in the WAFL. I say we thank Vardy for his service and cash in on what will be his highest value and keep Giles. Obviously there's also the issue of Fraser McInnes, who will be looking for more opportunities, but we don't need another Callum Sinclair situation by holding onto Vardy longer than we should.

I don't think our midfield is in as bad a shape as some. Nic coming back will change the dynamic tremendously, Duggan hits the magic 50-game milestone next year, Sheed hit it this year and Redden has already stepped into the role occupied by Mitchell/Priddis for most of this year. We are not going to find A-grade talent in free agency and we don't have the assets to bring someone in through a trade. Partington and Cole should get more game time and Venebles is due for a run next year as well. Our tall forwards (JK, Darling, Lycett) will thrive off better entries from a Nic/Lycett-led midfield but our small forwards pose a problem. LeCras and Hill need to go, Cripps has struggled this year but will stay on so our young guys need to played and we probably need to target small forward types from WA on the fringe of other lists looking for opportunities. I think we should do what we can to bring Brandon Matera in without paying overs.
I thought I heard that Giles body was "cooked"? If correct, he should be delisted.

I thought Hutchings was better this year than last but he's also spent some time on the sidelines.

For sure. Under normal circumstances he should be. I'm working under the assumption that Nic and Scott will be fit for all (most) of 2018, and that we still have McInnes. If we draft a ruckman (rookie draft?) then by all means Giles should go.

I'm happy for them to delist anyone who isn't worth draft picks.

I'm happy for them to trade anyone providing they get decent return and potential for future success (including A graders)

IMO we need 3 A graders through the middle who are relatively balanced with their inside and outside games. Also 2 decent crumbing forwards who provide pressure.

I might be overly optimistic but I'm going to assume rioli and venables fill 2/5 of that need.

To get the other 3 I'm happy to give up any of the players from the OP and then some including gaff

Tunners, mcinnes and snadden gone off the rookie list too plz. I'd rather take punts on vague prospects as I'm pretty sure we know what we are getting with these 3

Agree with everything but Snadden as he came on well in the back half of the year. Keep him for another year.

- Lecras delist
- Masten. Delist
- Schofield. Delist
- Wellingham delist
- Hill. Delist
- Giles. Delist
- Mackenzie. Keep
-Lamb delist
-Cripps keep
-Hutchings. Delist
-gaff. Trade
That's 12 changes including the retirees - too many in one year as where are you going to get thebplayers to replace them. Would keep Schofield, Wellingham and Hutchings as depth on that list which still makes 9 changes so possibly Masten will stay unless a trade can be done? A lot for the Club to think about.

Lecca - will selfishly sign a 1 possibly 2 year extension...when he should retire now.

Giles - retire, his knee is shot but out of contract next year.

Wellingham - should be delisted but i have a bad feeling the club will offer him another year. Like masten better than a WAFL player but not good enough to be an AFL one.

Hill - already signed the contract with subiaco

Masten - i heard he is contracted to 2019 (great list management). May be of some value to GCS or join his spud maye rhys palmer at carlton.

Tunbridge, brophy, snadden, mcinnes to be dumped from the rookie list.

Schofield to be retained as depth.

Come mid 2018 cripps & hutchings will be depth players as the likes of venebles, rioli, cole & mutimer come through. Waterman may also push for selection also.

Natanui to hide how shithouse our midfield collective is.

Using and expanding upon the original list.

- LeCras: Personally I want him gone and have done all year. I understand from a list management perspective if you don't want to cut too many players in one year but ultimately if he stays he can't play more than ten games.

- Masten: His career is over, do we cut him now or wait a year. I'd wait but tell him he's playing for East Perth.

- Schofield: I have no problem retaining him until he's 30. Solid depth player.

- Wellingham: redeemed in a new ball group or he's culled at the end of 2018. Never been a big fan but he gets slack given numbers.

- Hill: Already gone.

- Giles: Has to go. Naitanui, Lycett, Vardy and draft a young one. Scott Jones is already better.

- Mackenzie: Keep for a few years but we need to find a lock down defender who's 192cm tall, skilled and athletic. Can play on talls and mediums.

-McInnes: has to go. Not AFL standard and never will be.

-Karpany: one year more.

-Lamb: Id prefer to keep but would trade.

I think some people are reading too much into Simpson's words. With 4 retirements, plus a couple of delistings the team make-up is going to be quite different in 2018 without the club actually taking any real action again.
