looking at his vision and statistics as an underage player... he does not strike me anywhere near as good as some of the other eliter KPF of the last decade or so such as Daniher Hawkins Boyd Jamarra Patton and riewoldt if you want to stretch back all that far... and when you compare his output to the elite mids he falls well short.
has there been a more lackluster no1 pick in recent memory?
what are you on about? the entire draft board is full of people bashing draftees non-stop. I am just questioning the validity of the no1 selection, not his quality as a footballerImagine shitting on a kid during what’s probably the happiest week of their life.
not in the mood for the sensitive people, so edited thread to be more politically correct. enjoyTotal trash thred.
what world do you live in that people don't care about discussing draftees? lol. I edited the original title and post so loosen up on your sensitivity gageHow about ask in a couple years time when it actually matters mate? Nobody gives a s**t
Scully was a pretty decent junior. Watts was also a gun especially the carnival.Do you really want to go through Melbourne's former number 1 draft picks?
what really stands out is the disposal difference. Much more aerobic key forward.JUH
11.3 disposals, 6.1 marks, and 3.3 goals in last part of his U18s.
CADMAN
16.8 disposals 5.5 marks and 2.8 goals across last season of U18 (Would have been much better if he had kicked straight)
Not that far from the rest, just being talked down because NM were happy to trade down.

ight fair enough homie but your first title made you seem like a campaigner thoughwhat world do you live in that people don't care about discussing draftees? lol. I edited the original title and post so loosen up on your sensitivity gage
more than happy to tinker the title and details while essentially saying the same thing if it evokes a better discussion. I have a tendency to be a bit too blunt with my wording and sometimes need to curtail it. have no issues amending where need beight fair enough homie but your first title made you seem like a campaigner though
i think the success of even rookie picks speaks to this point. I feel this is probably the first No1 draft pick for a while who has been somewhat debatable as to who would have gone no1? the last few years have been lock and load no1's even with the disruption of the academy and FS picks.Yes, and both turned out to be no where near the quality Melbourne thought they were getting. Perhaps being the best player at an U18 level isn't always the best indication of success in the AFL.
was there a general consensus he was going no1 if most teams held the no1 pick? or was it more a needs based call off GWS.I would have taken Sheezel ahead of him for Carlton, but he's not far off the best kid and people smarter than I have deemed him the best.
I think he'll be a fine CHF in time. Let's give him a chance.
Hard to compare draft classes. How does Aaron Cadman compare to other no1 draft picks? does he stack up in terms of output or quality? is he better than some in years gone by?
Patton injury riddled could have been a star, Boyd mental health issues, and McCartin concussion issues. I think rightfully all 3 could have been very good key forwards.I’m confident he will have a better career than
Boyd
McCartin
Patton
Everybody took a calculated risk. People seem to think the draft gone by was about footy, and in a way, it was, but primarily the draft is a statistical exercise where clubs weigh up the probability of every 'pick' leaving them in a statistically better position. Typically, clubs try work out the 'knowns' around players and weigh up the unknowns, likelihood of injury, will they develop, can their deficiencies be mitigated through training or being played in a certain way.So GWS took a calculated risk.
