Admittidly i haven't seen any football in almost 6 weeks, but i've been checking the stats each week, and continue to see a few names on the list that i thought may have been dropped by now. These names are Mathews, McVeigh and Richards, and though i can't critisize as i haven't seen them play, i'd love to know how these three players are travelling, and you can throw Jude in there too.

On another note, what are our chances against our next 4 opponents? I have this sickening feeling that we're gonna go 2-2 and finish around 8th, but 3-4 or 4-4 is definitely possible if we stay focussed. What are your thoughts on the final rounds?

Although their stats don't look amazing and everything, but stats doesn't really tell you the whole story.

Richards is on the edge and I think he's going to face the chop this week. His performance tonight was dreadful. And as for McVeigh, I think he is improving. He's getting more of the footy although some of his decisions can be a bit mind boggling, but he's climbing.

After the match tonight against the Saints, you'd think we need more improvement. It was a scrappy win and the match was overloaded with free kicks. But I'll take the four points anyway.

The final rounds are going to be testing.

:confused::confused::confused:

So dreadful that he kept the in-form forward of the competition to a fraction of his normal output.

He might have been teetering on the edge of senior selection prior to this game but he's won himself a game for next week with almost certainty.

Mathews isn't fit to carry water for the Swans. A very average footballer, terrible skills, poor decision making and a very low football IQ, it's a blight on our reserves that we don't have anyone to replace him.
Easy on Teddy, he was our best player in the GF by a mile and would have gone close to being Norm Smith if we got over the line. His form this year hasn't been the best but he more than did his job on Saturday night and deserves to hold his position.

Thats why you post on Bigfooty and you're not a coach. Teddy redeemed himself on Saturday night shutting down a dangerous reiwolt. I don't understand where or how he was dreadful.

Care to elaborate more?

About Mathews:
SouthSwans :thumbsu:
The Bloods 33 :thumbsd:

We need Mathews end of story.

certainly, without crouch, mathews plays that total shutdown role really well, and it's not the time of the season to be dumping blokes such as benny....with three rounds to go before, hopefully, another shot at a flag, mucking around with team selections when it's not necessary will just create problems....i reckon mathews has been in reasonable form in recent weeks...both he and jarryd "the cape" mcveigh have proven me wrong the second half of the season and deserve to be in our first 22

Some of the views on here are truly staggering.

DA, take it as fact that Mathews would be top 10 in the B&F at the moment and that Richards has come in for universal praise after his performance on Saturday night. He was very, very good.

Just because they don't play flashy, pretty football doesn't mean they don't play a huge role in the team's success or otherwise.

Saturday night was the perfect example.

Where are you? Pretty obvious not here in OZ. The above players, have regained
the Bloods spirit, and if you watch games, you will see why stats, are irrrelevant.
The team is sticking to the game plan!

I'm in the states, and i'm sorry if i've underestimated the improvement of the players that i mentioned earlier. I'm looking forward to watching the Swans play again soon, and seeing certain players prove me wrong, hopefully.

McVeigh was the matchwinner last week. Matthews shut Harvey out of the game entirely and kicked a crucial goal. Richards held Reiwoldt in check, and Jude did some goods things too. The other 2 guys who have really lifted are Bevan and Buchanon. Schnieder, Hall and Kennelly had a forgettable night last week, but otherwise it was a great team effort with everyone contributing.

Mucking around with the ladder predictor on the afl website, if results go roughly how I predict they will we will finish 2nd and have a home final against WC
