how long until we’re good again?

Just accept the fact we are the smallest club outside of the 2 expansion teams. We are not meant to be ‘good’. The fixture alone and selling games compromises us significantly. The only two mechanisms for equalisation the salary cap (it’s a joke) and the draft (we traded out of it) aren’t going to help. Every now and then we might get our hands on a generational talent like the Duck that could transcend us but even if that case it would only be into a finals team not a premier

Genuinely.

For the foreseeable future of this competition any individual opportunity for success we may have will be matched tenfold by any of the big clubs, whether we are competent enough to take any of our chances is irrelevant as this is by design - not to keep us down necessarily but to prop up clubs that bring in $$$.

The same applies to the Dogs, St Kilda and Melbourne.

Not until the club gets serious about it and conducts an independent root and branch review into it's culture and mindset. It's ludicrous that any club can earn itself high end draft picks for 6 years on end and not make any significant improvement to its ladder position, with the goal of even being a dangerous lower order team feeling as far away as it ever has. That only happens if there are deeper fundamental issues which never get properly acknowledged let alone addressed. Then after that's been done, then the improvement can START.

So my answer to the OP question is...probably not in the next decade.
Enough reviews, if they don’t know what the **** they are doing, get out of the way..
this goes from the top of the board down.

all these good intention people give me the shits, it’s time to be honest with themselves.

Clarko said very early in his tenure here that he's not looking to build a squad that can compete in September, he's looking to build a squad that can stand up in the final day of September.

It wouldn't surprise me if he has changed on this. Things are getting so dire he may just be happy getting us to finals now. We are that far off it and 5 more years of this could spell the end of the club because yes supporters have had patience but for how much longer? There comes a breaking point I think.

We maybe the smallest club in Victoria atm but in the 70s+90s we were so far ahead of the Bulldogs and Saints in all areas on and off the field.
But have been overtaken by those club who combined have had less success the NMFC.
Mind you have a Billionaire who owns Seek who sticks it to the AFL from the saints and people of stroke who run the Bulldogs they are better run then the NMFC.
All we have is the WWS-Woke Wank Squad who so petrified to make hard decisions against Mates and our absolutely 💩 fu:king Scared of the AFL and Channel garbage.
To those all attending tonight rug up and be careful of the boozed poms from the Rugby on the way home.

the club should get every single person who works for the club and call a meeting and stand the **** up, how can you be this shit for so long without improvement, hey but at least disco has gotten better😀😀

We won’t be until we make huge changes off field.

Brady Rawlings and Kevin White to start with.

Clarko said very early in his tenure here that he's not looking to build a squad that can compete in September, he's looking to build a squad that can stand up in the final day of September.

The foundations are there, just need patience. We've demonstrated that our best is very good and can compete with the best. Just need to show that more often.
Absolute nonsense.

This post hasn't aged well...and it's only been 24 hours.

The delusion on here from some supporters is next level insane.....

We have no defensive structure, no plan on how to move the ball from one end to the other.
No stoppage structure, our 1 wood is Xerri either grabs or taps it at his feet, the moment the ball comes to the outside we are stuffed. We don't spread from stoppage and leave our back 6 exposed and having to make a decision on if they should come forward or hold their position.
Our forwards never come at the ball carrier, they work as 5 or 6 individuals as opposed to a forward unit. We don't apply enough pressure at ground level. Our structucture defending opposition kick ins is non-existent.

Then you throw in our skills and decision making with ball in hand and you have one big cluster f...

This group will never be consistently good.

Some of them will be good enough to play in a good team, but consistently good? This group? This footy dept?

No. Needs an overhaul.

Where are the mugs who said we’d bounce this year? Where are they?
Obviously they got it wrong. That’s okay. I thought we’d push up to mid table this year.
I was also wrong.

To answer the OP of how long until we’re good again?
I’m starting to think we might always be shit

I don't believe it's a list issue.

In the times of an equalised (mostly) competition, the difference between the best and worst list is significant, but not 18 wins to 4 wins significant. Could this list win a flag? Probably not. Could they win 8-12 games and give us some pleasure, yes. In winning that 8-12 games could they then attract the right free agents to move upwards, yes.

There is so much that could be done internally off the field to correct course, but...as it would be for plenty of other clubs in the league...the arrogance of the club make them think they have the "secret sauce" on how to turn things around and get things done.

There is no proof or evidence that we have this secret sauce, but alas they are not interested in outside help to right the ship. Clarko's success from 10-16 years ago has convinced him and the club they can fix it, but it is a different time now.

We were equal to or a bigger club than Dogs in the early 90s. At the moment we've lost huge ground to them, but can clow it back with a decade of success. That's what's needed. How do we get there? Just need to get some ruthless directors and ruthless people in the footy department.

One would think they don't come much more ruthless than Clarko, but hey - we all mellow with age. I can see that with my own fatherhood. When my first two kids were born in 2004/5 they I was hard with them, in terms of respect, values and just general behavior. When my third was born in 2011 I was a lot softer by then, and he's hardly ever seen the hard side of dad. Now fast forward to my second marriage and I have a 20 month old again. I don't reckon I will ever even raise my voice at him. I've changed a hell of a lot in the past 25 odd years. I suppose Clarko may be the same in some respects...
