Analysis How the state of the game has evolved, is the increased rate of injuries a result of of the evolution

People go to the football for one reason, to see there side win. They either go home happy or sad.
They don’t give a crap how many goals were scored, whether or not it was a scrappy or open game.
The AFL are speaking on behalf of the spectators without asking us. They are the ones including their broadcast partners who are delivering this state of the game crap. They are trying to clean up a mess they created by changing rules and interpretation of rules yearly for the last 25 years.
If they had left the game alone 25 years ago none would f this would of come up.

Ultimately that is right, winning is what matters, but you touch on the real problem, the game is today overumpried as well as being over congested, both these problems are self-inflected.

I think it is under umpired, head high contact is rife in the game now. Without the ball doesn’t exist anymore, players are constantly man handled without having the ball. Incorrect disposal say no more.
If they umpired to the laws of the game then the game will open up and it will force the coaches and players to change how they do things. I hate how the bloke with the ball is deemed to be the one causing high contact, push in the backs etc etc.

My team winning or losing isn’t going to change my week at all, also I go to the football to be entertained and I don’t care by which team or player, If the suns win it’s a bonus. now I rarely leave the footy thinking my money was well spent.

I have never gone to a football game to be entertained. I only go to follow my side and they either win or lose. I have been to hundreds of games where it’s been highly entertaining and equally been to hundreds that have been pretty average, my feelings though always came down to whether my team won or not. It doesn’t change my week either but the AFL trying to fix a mess they created also won’t change anything either. My side will still win or lose.

In those cases I agree. Incorrect disposal has become a major issue, the umps need to just follow the rules and very quickly the players would get the hint that certain acts will get pinged and the game will change, instead of the umps seeming to change their interpretation from week to week which is why I refer to as being overumpried. There was a time when the umps favored the guy with the ball, unless he was clearly holding it after being tackled.

Brownlow medallist out before pre-season's kicked off. Yes it happens, but that's just one case of many. Too many injuries these days and last year must have been an all time high.

lol, Bartel absolutely wiped the floor with BT on that one :$

Agreed. The saying of the era was get three goals in front and ‘hit the boundary line’

Can anyone who remembers those slogs up and down the boundary line tell us if there was entertainment value?

The other commentator also said 17 years ago to the day we had 27.9 to 25.9 Dons vs Roos 69 point come back.

Bartel '' did it make a good game ''

****en oath it was a good game. Also implying that just because it's high scoring doesn't mean it's a good game. True. But most of the time, it is.

Poor reasoning.

Were all the games on that day entertaining? While there was plenty of scoring, it was the only close game for the round. In fact only one other was close at 3/4 time

People debating the game can’t seem to decide if they want close games or high scoring. In fact this category of game has always been rare

6 6 6 could very well result in stronger teams punishing weaker teams more often, as will all adjustments aimed at increasing scoring

Personally I did enjoy Hawthorns 9 goal 5 v Collingwood 1 goal third quarter which I recall was mainly from centre bounces with Nathan Thompson leading Crawford Chick Vandenburg against McKee Buckley liculia obree
Maybe 6. 6. 6. Will see a return of big third quarters
Goals Barlow 5 Dickson 4 barker 4

Man gonna have to go find the tape for that Carlton v Fremantle game. Looks like a classic!

What were the AFL thinking? not carlton on friday

And just waiting for NFL to send scouts over to check what we are doing, having just put on the lowest scoring superbowl in history

Almost 18 games in and I haven't seen one game that has been great. Pies-Cats turned out to be good but the first 2.5 quarters were garbage. Dockers played superb Football last Sunday but it was a demolition. All these new rule changes were supposed to make for better footy but can't say it's the case atm. Only 2 rounds in but rules aside, a lot of dire footy.

Don't watch it? I'll always love our game of Australian Rules Football. Just not always the quality of it.

Football gods must have heard me. I decided to watch the last bit of the hawks game as the dogs got within 4 goals. Had a sneaking suspicion it might be worth finishing watching as the suns-dockers game was trash. They won by 19 points kicking the last 8 goals of the game. Unreal!

That was what we need more of. And James, pull your head in son. You just cost your team.

What I really like is that scores have skyrocketed

Recurring problem. Still too many shit games and it's not due to the low scores. Just some shithouse football being dished up. The key word, Football. I want to see more of what it's called.

North vs Adelaide - rubbish
Eagles vs Dockers - literally one of the worst games I've ever seen
Gold Coast vs Carlton - LMAO

The weeks before more garbage. The round gone by I found most games were pretty cool one way or another. Once again, the last round was a rare one.

I was impressed with the first quarter of tonights game. I thought ripper, we might get a good game. The next two quarters have proceeded to bore the shit out of me. 4 goals to 3 in the 1st, just 4 more goals in the next two quarters. If it were good football and a good game it wouldn't matter. Neither of those transpired.

Poor.

i dunno i thought the last quarter was typical Richmond wear their opponent down and the kick away. Very entertaining from where i sat.

On SM-G935F using BigFooty.com mobile app

Hawks vs Dees - Rubbish
GWS vs Saints - score didn't change for about 10 minutes in the 2nd quarter before the saints just kicked the last two goals now.

Last week, same as most.Too many shit games and shit footy produced.

same thing I said last year. Watching it out of habit more than love. Recuperation after hard work during the week.

Footy's been shit for a few years now.

The football gods heard me again, and twice they've burnt Hawthorn. I might have to do this all Hawk games if it means they're going to lose:)

Adelaide 1 goal in the first half to Freo's 2

Geelong 86-54 Essendon

Melb vs Hawks 11 goals apiece

WCE 11 goals to Gold Coast's 8

The Dees vs Hawks 2nd half was good after a poor first one. Some shithouse footy with some shit house scores. The rule changes haven't made it a better game. Football's gone backwards yet again.
