If Brendon Ah Chee ever hits you with a left hook

This, so much.

Any leader worth his salt will tell you 'moral of the troops' is most important - it trumps strategy every-time.

This speaks volumes about Kern's imo.
The morale is too ;)

I'm uncomfortable with players being told that they are just depth in case of injuries, that they will struggle to get a game, etc, mid season. It just adds nothing positive to the player's performance or team morale at large. Leave that stuff for the end of season review.

That's why I posted this pic in the Melts Night thread yesterday:

Power rubbish Ah Chee trade rumours
PORT Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has rubbished reports midfielder Brendon Ah Chee is seeking a return to Western Australia. The 23-year-old is among a group of Port players coming out of contract at season's end. But Hinkley laughed off a report in The West Australian that Ah Chee is demanding a return to Perth. "'Arch' knows we exactly where he's at and what he needs to do to be a part of the AFL side," Hinkley said on Friday. "Look, he has got a great future. And hopefully for us that is still with our football club." Ah Chee has played four of his 26 AFL games this season but Hinkley noted it was entering silly season for trade rumours. "We understand managers have jobs to do," Hinkley said.

Reporter asks leading question to coach about players manager saying he's only going to play SANFL for the rest of his Port Adelaide career just to write article about how coach has rubbished rumours.

Pathetic gutter journalism.

Hinkley: "Arch, you know exactly where you're at ..."
Arch: "54% game time."
Hinkley: "Exactly. You're not fit enough."
Arch: "That figures, Coach. It's called a consequence."
Hinkley: "... and Arch, you know exactly what you need to do to be a part of the AFL side."
Arch: "Get selected?"
Hinkley: "That might help. Another of those ... er ..."
Arch: "Consequences."
Hinkley: "Now you know exactly where you're at."
Arch: "Going around in circles."
Hinkley: "You're a victim of circum ... circum ... "
Arch: "Circumstance?"
Hinkley: "Circumference."

I don't think it would be remotely possible for anybody playing for the Magpies to know exactly what they have to do to get into the AFL side. Does Arch need to have more 6 disposal games? Because that seems to work for some. Just make sure he doesn't have 24 touches & 8 goals or he'll have no chance.

Think about it guys.......who lost last night?
Of course we'll have a bad news Port story today!!

You can set your watch to it.

Such a weak story though, they're really scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

The article came from The West so spare us the conspiracy notions. I think most likely scenario here is a player manager out to generate public interest in his client - find it very difficult to believe that the coaches would come out and have definitively changed their minds so quickly after publicly praising the irresistability of his SANFL performances prior to the China game.

Excluding that weird period in 2015 where Ken played him as the sub 5 or 6 times in a row, Sam Gray and Jake Neade have both been given more than double the opportunities that Arch has been given. And if you ask me, they've both shown much less.

I agree that in relative terms, Arch has deserved more of a go than Neade and Gray. However, there is still a fairly decent sample size of him that has so far only shown glimpses at AFL level.

“I had an honest chat with the club but in the end I decided I couldn’t leave the Power because I love the club, I love Adelaide and I’m settled here, so there wasn’t enough reasons for me to leave.’’

“One of the great things about playing at Port is that nothing is gifted to you, it’s all earnt, and that if you can make it at this club and become a regular player you know you have earnt it.

“This club has given me so much on and off the field and the stuff they do in the indigenous space is easily the best in the AFL.’’

Brendon Ah Chee, June 2017.

But yes, let's just ignore this interview.

Fringe player who is inconsistent at AFL level demands a trade half way through current season.

Righto
Read the last page or so. It might help you.

I like Arch and I wish he could get a good run in the midfield instead of being played at HF and then dropped.
I luv Arch, have done ever since he was drafted. Anyone reading this thread gets a hint of that. Anyone who can pinpoint a 30 metre handball left-handed at age 17 is a weapon that a Club should cultivate, not try to teach the skill out of him rather than enhance it. Whoever was or is our midfield coach who told him not to handball so much has an appointment with me out back of the Happy Valley Bar & Grill where I am currently in situ. Was it Buddha? Was it you Crazy Vossy? Whomsoever, Hinkley has the responsibility to make this lad the success he deserves to be instead of testing his resolve as the team scapegoat having made him sit on the pine half of the game. If Arch goes, it's you, Ken. I know I invited you to the Races at the Valley at the end of the season, but if you can't coach Arch properly and successfully and point to him as an example of your (currently questionable) coaching prowess at season's end then you'll be placing your bets with a pair of raging shiners on display.

Edit: Perhaps I should confirm that the aforementioned shiners would be a result of Ken's extreme insomnia after nights of ear bashing from yours truly. I know you all knew that.

Probably not so much with S Rgay but definitely with Neade.

Honest question, what exactly has SGray been doing at AFL level that makes him better than Ah Chee?

Not having a go at you or anybody else.

Ah Chee for uses the ball alot better, has more goal assists, and actually kicks goals when given the opportunity.

SGray 18D/0.8 goals a game
Ah Chee 16D/1.5 goals a game, and more goal assists in less game time.

Both are equal for tackles at 2 a game.

The spot that SGray has seemingly cemented himself as a first 18 player should belong to Ah Chee.

I didn't say that Sr Gay was better than Archie.

I responded to the comment "And if you ask me, they've both shown much less" with the comment for Sr Gay "not so much". Not so much of much less is not better. :)

I'm not on the anti Sr Gay bandwagon so I see both the good and the bad he does. If I was able to drop a player in our current 22 for not contributing he wouldn't be number one on my list.
