If Geelong get a home final against a non Victorian team

Well jokes and 2013 references aside, we're a much better chance of knocking off a team at KP than the MCG.

Personally MCG finals weren't a problem 2007 to 2011 and we picked up 3 flags. I guess I come from the school of thought that if you're good enough, you're good enough anywhere.

Given the GF is played at the MCG, I'd say that line of thinking is the more 'correct' or helpful one. There's also gotta be a downside to being so close to Melbourne I guess lol

Because if waters down your ability to blindly say GWS and Gold Coast get home finals (and they absolutely do).

The best situation for forcing the AFL to look at this attendance versus fair reward for ladder positions will be GWS hosting Collingwood in a final. If the Bulldogs got a convoy to Sydney for the 2016 prelim, have a think about what the Pies would show up with.

Sydney vs GWS was at ANZ in 2016. If GWS were playing the Pies I bet it would've been at ANZ too.

Geelong will get 35-40k at KP. Doesn't matter who when etc. Move that to Melbourne and it won't change a lot. But Geelong at the MCG could get 0-60k others. That's what the AFL cares about. That's what they've always cared about.

Really the only way Geelong get KP finals is if no one attends their MCG finals.

Even if it means you can't get in?

I'll be getting in, but yes, even if that means people not getting in.

Fans get locked out of all major sporting events around the world.

Scotiabank Arena in Toronto holds 19,800 people and they're playing the NBA finals there. Game 1 was sold out with cheapest tickets at $1200 and people were lining up at outside viewing areas to watch the game on a big screen for 15 hours beforehand.

Oracle Arena holds less at 19,500 people and is arguably the best atmosphere in world sports right now.

Who really cares where it’s played? Year after year these threads are made, and it’ll be one of these 18 page turd fights that end up being a Geelong v Richmond supporter mud slinging fest.

Don’t people understand? If you’re good enough you’ll just win anywhere. I’ve been in these threads multiple times over the years and bought up about a dozen examples of teams winning on foreign turf in huge finals.

KP Park or not, who gives a damn.

Yes, and the AFL acted swiftly to renegotiate its contract so that it didn't happen again. That's the correct procedure.
Just because others have been wronged should not mean it should be tolerated. Should not be playing MCG tenants at the G for a home final.

Swiftly?
After a decade plus of it happening to non Victorian teams

The AFL should play every single finals game at the MCG then.
I am not saying you shouldn’t get a final at KP, if you finish in a certain position on the ladder you have the right to a home final. But my point more stems from that even teams who play finals at home get rolled. I look at Geelong in premiership years, didn’t they play and win all finals at the G?

Supporters should never be locked out if it can be avoided. And it can. It is called the MCG.

I for one am barracking for Geelong every week to finish top of the ladder. Richmond are a chance to sneak into fourth spot and nab a home final that way.

Like it or not Geelong are home tenants of the MCG. To deny 40k+ fans from attending a final seems unjust when there's a viable option to allow for those fans to attend.

WCE got the short end of the stick in a few finals series in the '90s. A handful of Week 2 finals losses to North, Essendon and Carlton stand out in my memory.

e.g. Week 1 of Finals:
Carlton (6th) def by Brisbane at the Gabba by 80 odd points
West Coast (5th) def WB in a tight one at the 'G.

The victorious AND higher-placed West Coast "earns the right" to play the vanquished Carlton at the 'G the following week.

Utterly ridiculous.

Eagles were dudded a lot in the nineties. But then again, they should have been good enough to win. I mean, they did win GF there.

A Geelong v Richmond MCG final would put this place into melt down. Imagine the suspensions, infractions and day off cards issued?

And no Victorian v. Victorian final will ever be played anywhere other than the MCG again unless there are 4 finals there in the first week. Every Vic v. Vic final has got more than 87,000 since 2015.
