I know this is meant to be a positive thread, but some of those ages just look so depressing, even though I know it's in five years.

&@*$. I knew we were bad, but we're now so bad we've turned into Richmond, Melbourne, Norf etc by posting a "but we'll be good in the future thread.

Have a look at what the Gold Coast's squad will look like in 5 years and see if the above would get within 10 goals of them

Yeah, I know ... my first thoughts on reading it were "... and Luke Shuey will be ... and Jack Darling will be ... and Trent Cotching will be ... and Dustin Martin will be ... and NicNat will be ... " and then I had to stop.

Yeah no offence but that team looks terrible. We better do some mighty fine recruiting in the next few years, or get a premiership in the next few years. Or both.

To the tune of "Mr Plow".

Ben Haren, watch that name, that name again, is Ben Haren.

You're a very optimistic man SS, with the amount of turnover that happens at every club, I would put my house on 5-7 of those players not being there in 5 years time. Just don't ask me which ones!

Yep. Not to mention that some of the players we rate highly now will turn out to be spuds, and some of them we don't rate at all will become the Brett Kirk's and Leo Barry's of our team.

5 years is a very long time in football.

My thoughts exactly when I saw this thread.

One loss against Hawthorn (as poor as it was) shouldn't have turned this board into one that is saying sack the coach, wait for 5 years then we'll be good etc.

Last year we went through a horrid run in the middle of the year and everyone was talking doom and gloom then. We turned the tide and made the 8 and almost a PF. Now I'm not saying we'll definitely do as well this year but I have a feeling that if we end up winning the next 2 or 3 games, the tune on this board will be vastly different to what it is now.

We win a few games and we're contenders for the top 4 but we lose one or two and we're a rabble who is doing everything wrong. Given how amazingly consistent our club has been over the last 7 years or so, I find it amazing how quick some are to question how our club works and if we need to change everything that makes this club and team work.

Spot the similarity.

Because this year we don't have Roos as coach who will be able to use his masterclass to turn things around and motivate the players. I'm yet to be sold on Horse having the same masterclass.

You might not be sold on Longmire yet because he's been in the job for 8 senior games...give him a bit of time for goodness sake.

It sounds awfully similar to that time of the year last year when people were saying give Roos the chop. We lost a few games and suddenly he wasn't the man for the job anymore.

That team ain't gonna make it!

And needs more Tom Mitchell.

Plenty of salary cap frees up as older guys retire so can sign some stars and who knows who we draft etc

It's interesting to see where we are going. I think we are still a good side but I think right now the club is rebuilding and trying to develop a side for the next few years. I am happy with the overall position of the side

Most of the younger boys are around my age, and seeing that 24 is so odd. I'll have finished my degree and be practising by then, hopefully. Or going on to study. Hopefully been to a GF or two by then!

Have to remind myself sometimes that its not a race in terms of studying though, I may go on to do more after that.

Don't like taking that stance. Hopefully we have no salary cap space because our players are good enough to demand high salaries.

it would only take one or two of bradshaw goodes okeefe etc to move on and we could give pay rises and still lure someone in. But i get what you are saying.

My main point was the 22 in 5 years will include people not yet at the club

To be honest, that's not looking good.

I've always thought we've been in good shape in years gone by despite a lot of people saying we're destined for bottom 4 after retirements. People said it after Kelly and Dunkley retired and more recently with O'Loughlin, Ball, Crouch and Barry etc...

But in the next year or 2 i'm a bit concerned with the likes of O'Keefe, J.Bolton and Goodes nearing the end. Goodes is a once in a lifetime player and is pretty much irreplaceable.

And looking at that team it's quite scary and hard to find where the improvement overall and/or replacement for those 3 players is going to come from to make sure we are in contention for finals year in, year out.

I guess form and development can change in that timeframe and there are some good quality players at the moment that can lift and put themselves to the level that Goodes, O'Keefe and J.Bolton have showed over the last 10 or so years.

I think Hannebery, Smith, Kennedy and Jack will be our top players whilst Bird, Everitt, Jetta, Grundy and TDL will be on the rung below.

I find it hard to place Rohan, because i think he could develop into a special player, has a lot of attributes that could put him anywhere into the Goodes category or the rung along side Bird, Jetta and Everitt etc depending on how he goes. But definitely Rohan is the one (for me anyway) to keep an eye on.

Can't comment on Heath, Gordon, Johnson, Parker, Reid, Lamb, Johnston, Sumner and B.Jack as i've never seen them play. But the reports i've read on Parker, Johnson and Reid sounds promising.

White and Meredith, well something must have changed a lot between now and then as i can't see them being on our list beyond the end of next year at the latest. Mumford will be one of best ruckman in the game over the next 3-5 years, but i get the feeling his knees by the time he is 27-28 will be causing him a lot of grief and will probably miss a lot of games.

But as pointed out in an earlier post, 5 years is a long time in football. Hopefully in that time we've dipped our toes in the trading market as well as drafted well, because based on today a lot of those players listed in the team above have a long way to go by the sounds of it.
