The silence on nic in that report was pretty scary. Doesn’t bode well.

I think no news is just no news in this instance. From what’s been said previously they’re just waiting to see if it settles down at all before another set of scans

Next week will give a better indication

Yep, it was always 2 weeks and then assessment.

Vardy is the ideal 2nd ruck , moves well and IF and when he is on he is devastating .
If on form can be a very effective 2nd ruck. Unfortunately, 2019 Vardy and 2018 Vardy are two very different players. 2018 Vardy was very useful (far from devastating) while 2019 Vardy has been a liability; a low possession, poor rucking shadow of himself - unable to take uncontested marks, let alone any contested ones and having zero scoreboard impact. That's zero as in not even a single behind.

Someone who cannot take a mark, cannot kick a goal as a forward and gets thrashed in the ruck is an ideal player to no-one except the opposition. Needs to drastically turn his form around (sustained WAFL) before he can be considered again. Williams and Brooksby must be ahead of him at the moment.

Premiership player mate. kicked a crucial one 4th qrtr of GF. That goal alone gives him a whole season pass.
Can’t agree. Has been very wooden this season. Will never forget his heroics but he’s been a liability in 2019.

Did Hurn do anything at training today? I saw the photos that Barich posted but just looked like stationary kicking?

Wonder if Smith gets offered a contract?
Probably not.
He is that gut running, 2km time trial specialist type that seems to have no impact on games. We already have one of those. I must confess that a year ago I thought he would be the Masten replacement in 2019 and into 2020 when Petrucelle would then take over on the wing as that running link. With P having burst speed as well.

Mind you, he is only 25 and the club will take the injury effect into account, and that could get him a rookie spot. Maybe. Possibly. Perhaps.

But he has been unable to dislodge Masten, and with this latest injury might be pushing poo uphill to retain his list spot.

His career might not be done, given he was delisted by a Grand Finalist, picked up by the Premier but now potentially delisted by them after a year. Theoretically he’s still an option for 16 teams, surely there’s a Gold Coast/bottom four option that could use a mature runner.

The problem with Smith for me is he doesn’t really seem to do any one thing better than anybody else, he’s very easily lost in the shuffle. If you need a runner, most teams have similar options. If you need a contested ball winner, most teams have better. If you need a clever forward flank, most teams have better.

He’s accumulated well at WAFL level so perhaps I’m wrong, he may be a solid link up option for someone else. To me it seems like he’ll be a depth option for a bad club but I don’t really see what he offers a team at the pointy end of the ladder that wouldn’t be better served by just taking a punt on a much younger player.

He was running and gathering footballs.

Looked fine to me but we’ll know more later this week.

Haven't really been following it but is Nic coming back in 2019 a pipe dream or something that's feasible?

Honestly just looking at him as a bonus from now on in his career and not something we build around, it sucks... but just the reality at the moment.

Assume that he will miss finals again next season. His body only last half a season. So either:

Play him finals now Or fold him till next year finals time. If we don’t rush him

He will come fit firing and get injured round 20 missing finals again.

Expect only max 8 games in a row out of him then another injury.

The thought did cross my mind before he came back. Always gets injured right on the brink and misses out. As a result I cringed every time he landed from a marking contest. Shut him down till round 22 and unleash him for the finals.. (Obviously not realistic but he deserves better than this).

Can’t do much about other players landing on your ankles in marking contests though. Just purely bad luck this time around.

Has there been no other update to Venables? Just listed as out for season. The last I read was end of May "will miss at least a month as we take cautious approach" or some such. Now out for season.

Yeah this.

I'm fine with the level of coverage on nic. IMO they've been real transparent with their thought process for this injury - moreso than usual.

Given him every opportunity to get back this year by holding off on surgery - but it'll take a few weeks to ascertain whether it's healing as hoped.

Hurn, Hutchings, Duggan, Cripps and yes FKASC Edwards all trained. Bunga and Hutch looked ready to play, but maybe another week for the others

Cameron on light duties only so maybe feeling the pinch after a few AFL games in a row

Naitanui did some handballs and nothing else so not much to report on there

Hope those two are given an extra week to get fit for finals. Crazy how quick they have recovered and hope we get it right and not have them break down early.
