A lot of our best players weren't available though because they were playing in their respective club championships.
That's nowhere near the best team we could put out.
I know it's the same for you guys but it's too easy to assume that it's our best team against your worst team.

that sounds like you didnt have a choice. ours were just because no one wants to play the crappy sport.

And yours isn't?

Yours would go down in the history of BF as the most ignorant and moronic statement ever.

This is where you admit you don't actually have sweet **** all knowledge of the Irish in the history of wars and leave the threead.
HaHa,do you really think i could give a flying **** what an inbred tool like you thinks?
Go suck a potato paddy.

Pretty much all your best players have played at some stage down through the years though.
The whole thing is pretty shit now however and it should be abandoned.

Have no interest in this game anymore. The WA public supported it well at Subi and i went along to the last 3 games. It isn't actually a bad game to watch live. But the AFL go and give it to their love child the Gold Coast and noone turns up to watch in Melbourne. They can get stuffed if they try and bring it back to WA next time.

That and they picked the biggest bunch of no name hacks to play. What an awful side. Or is it that no players want to play in it at home and only want to play when they get to go away to Ireland?

Even though I think the series is rediculous, we really need to look into why we got smashed so easily. For a team that generally wins the series (3 of the last 4 have been won by Australia), to get thumped by 44 is embarrasing.

To me, this is more of a reason to cancel the series than if the Aussies won easily. The players clearly did not care or they did but go told by there clubs to not risk injury, which is understandable.

Surely its a double standard to say its too risky to have players playing SOO but its okay for players to play a mickey mouse game during Pre Season.

For something different next year why don't Ireland play us in a game of Aussie Rules?

They'd be lucky to score.

This IR series has been going for a long time now and Australia have done well to win so many times but the crowd and general lack of interest from the players and the public last night shows that it's past it's use by date.

I'd say the official crowd number of 22,000 is being genorous.....looked at the crowd and couldn't believe how empty it was...looked like some levels had been closed to the public.

18,000 at most.

Hardly a surprise with the AFL squad chosen and little marketing. Easton Wood is barely in the club's best 22, let alone an international star.

Easton Wood is easily in our best 22....

In saying that though, everyone knows the team was shit, the game is shit, very few people have interest in it, yet it will keep going so the AFL can keep attempting to expand further into Ireland.

Same here. The last one or two were sellouts and they used the Perth game to promote the Melbourne game.

But the AFL go and give it to their love child the Gold Coast .

Have no problem with that. They'll get a decent crowd up there.

noone turns up to watch in Melbourne.

That's the main problem. Melbournites cannot see past their local team.
They'll get injured etc. They don't accept NAB Cup, SOO. IR or IC.

We picked a "no-names" team this doesn't mean it wasn't our best team though if you had half a brain you'd pick a few stars to ensure the viability of the series. The lack of preparation was clearly visible and the Irish were pumped. To complete the perfect storm we were sold a pup with the aggression bit. the Irish didn't seem to worry about jeopardising the series with aggression so I don't know we were so lame in that regard.

I doubt last night's game would've tempted any Irish viewers to switch codes. The whole thing was a farce.

IR has drawn over 60k twice in Melbourne. Last night was the first time a match has drawn less then 40k here, let alone less then 30k. What does that say? I think it shows that the Vic public won't stand for sub-standard levels of sport. Make no mistake - if we played our All-Australian team last night with players like Buddy etc running around, you'd have a LOT more then 22k turning up. The squad chosen was a joke and compromised the already subjective integrity of the series.

You think the whole idea of IR is to switch codes ?
Don't know if there has been any increase in Gaelic football in Australia.
The IR series has been a bit of a detriment to Australian Football in Ireland at the grassroots level. Previous to that clubs were being formed easily. Now there is a complete lack of co-operation.

No question about the crowd result.
But an AA team with the same preparation as that team would have been laughable unless some with IR were included .

IR is a game were you can say "if we got that one we would've been closer" because the ball is kicked out regardless except for a net goal.

If you tally our misses then the score was reasonable.
Add to that some clangers that lead to goals.
The Irish would still have won because they had a good game plan, carried it out to perfection and kicked extremely accurately.

From a game perspective it was our lack of preparation.
From a promotion perspective there was none -so why are people whinging ?

Quite a predictable result.

Not at all, I'm just saying that a game like last night would've done no favours in that regard. Gaelic fans would be revelling in the win - at least the ones that give a toss about IR.

Why didn't Australia pick Ablett, Bartel, Judd, Franklin, Swan, Goodes, Stevie J, Pendlebury, Pavlich, Black, Murphy etc etc etc?
The same reason SOO died... players and clubs have little passion or interest in this abomination, let alone the spectators.

Take away tackling, marks, point posts and... IR is 80% gaelic and an insult to our intelligence.

I hope the general lack of interest in this country heralds the death knell for this rubbish... but 80k in Dublin next year might see it continue. :o

The problem is that clubs cannot afford to risk their stars on an exhibition game when there is a possibility of them being rubbed out for premiership matches in 2012.
The Irish are just too punchable to take the risk.

International Rules is a lot like St Patrick's Day. We all do our best not to watch as some young Aussie blokes stagger their way around, flailing their arms around wildly, frantically trying to convince everyone that they’re Irish for one day.

What's your logic.
A big win by the Irish encourages them to play AR because they'll be good at it or a big win discourages the Irish to play AR because the Aussies are crap at IR ?
