ya ye used to bring the best but it needs a certain type of player IMO. the squad you had last year was near perfect, some big target men but also some brilliant runners with great foot skills. I personally think Malthouse got all aspects spot on tactically aswell so he should take great credit. not sure what happened this year, the players werent good enough for this game and they were small and light so you didnt have the usual power to put the relevant pressure on our side.

We also had guys like Grigg, Nahas and Wood. I mean, Wood? What the hell?

FF - Goodes J.Riewoldt Banfield

HF - Franklin Cloke Green

Mid - Swan Pendlebury Ablett

Fol - Smith Judd Murphy

HB - O'Brian Frawley Shaw

FB - Scarlett Fletcher (GK) Hodge.

Wonder what kinda score that would produce?

From the Aussie point of view, who was your best player over the 2 games? None of them covered themselves in glory, but anyone you were impressed with?

The trick is, the good players give a **** when they get a free trip to the UK. The fact that the top flight of players didn't turn up when it's a quick drive down the road shows that they really couldn't give two short ****en shits about the concept.
If we want the good players to play, hold it in Ireland every year.

Dear god.

Irish celebrating the win :o :D

Despite the spite during the game, it:

a) didn't get completely out of control like it did in 2004/2005/2006
b) the Irish coaching staff didn't overreact to the incidents post-match (Tohill was very composed and professional in his post match interview when asked about the incidents compared to the disgraceful antics of his predecessor in 2006)
c) the players still shook hands/exchanged jumpers at the end of the game
d) I've seen worse in the NHL than what I saw tonight

I'd still like the series to continue, but if it doesn't no big deal.

Congratulations to the Irish. It's a pity there's pretty much zero GAA coverage over here, would love to watch more of it, and would rather watch their game than some of the other 'sports' that does end up on the sport channels here.

In fairness, your boys celebrate like crazy every time they win it.

if you picked all your AA side you wouldnt win, some of them would be to big and awkward for this faster type game. you need a mixture of both. jack riewold was brilliant in ireland last year as was adam goodes. it has a year brak now so we will all be ready for it in 2 yrs time!

I lol'd
The All Australian team is made up of midfielders.
Nice attempt though :o

Why wouldn't Australia pick their best team? That one has Green in it

The game isnt the problem, its fairly free flowing, and the umps have little influence on the final result like in AFL.

The problem is the leagues.

Early on when the AFL used it as an end of season trip, it was pathetic.

When sheedy drilled some pride into them it became good to watch, but the irish had a sook because the big bad AFL was to physical (but within the rules).

Many rules were subsequently changed as the GAA threatened to put a 1 year no play contract clause on its players, meaning the AFL would pretty much have lost any irish prospect.

Since then, the game has evolved into nothing more then a good-will game to make sure the AFL Clubs still have the irish avenue

Haha are you for real. That my friend is the saddest post I have ever seen. What a load of crap, the GAA have no control over what GAA players do. The AFL don't need this to poach GAA players. So as usual it's another uneducated Australian comment. All that I've seen is much of the same from previous tests, a limited Australian team who have to resort to dirty violent play to win the series. Unfortunately for you guys this time your arrogance and disrespect for the Irish players has resulted in an extremely embarassing result which result in neither a game win or a fight win. And thankfully I can say that this time without any usual cries of sore looser. The AFL should be again totally embarassed with what happened again tonight and just to let you know this results goes further than Ireland and Australia when the Aussies resort to these tactics it's news in the UK, US and many other countries. Hope it's now abandoned and we bring the Cup home to where it belongs in a country where sportsmanship is first and winning is second.

Oh f**k the Australia let us rejoice bandwagon we are so proud of wearing the Australian jersey suddenly don't give a sh@t. Haha you guys are a joke. This whole Forum is a really sad image of Australia. Haha I love it. I don't even have to say anything you guys have already said it all.

Here we go again, blah, blah, blah, god sore loosers is not the word. At least we don't cheat to try and win a game...

Settle down, you are hardly covering yourself in glory.

You also realise that you can put all of your gloating and snide potshots in one post?

All credit to Ireland they were fantastic, if only the AFL and those involved had been more on point in terms of personnel selection, promotion and where the second game was played we might have had a decent series.

But I feel under current circumstances it should be put to bed, gone are the days when the Australian contingent took it seriously and it showed in the crowd figures and response.

Is there anything to be said for the AFL to start using a round ball in their own code? That way the issue of the ball would not be such a big deal in the IR series and it would be much more competitive compitition as the Irish would not have such a big advantage. IMHO it makes solid sense and would bridge the gap between the two teams.

Interested to know the Saints fans opinions on Tommy Walsh are after the series? I know from reading the forum that a fair few were sad to see him go (some ignorant arseholes were pretty disgraceful in their condemnation of him as well), but are there any fans who didn't care that now are slightly more regretful? Difficult as I know that playing well in these tests matters for **** all in terms of GAA or AFL, but interested to know anyway. Cheers.
