Is it shitting anyone else as much as it is shitting me when Jarrad Waite continually plays on or takes off on a run aimlessly and run himself into trouble or hesitates with his decisions only to end up being tackled, disposing of the ball hurriedly and/or unbalanced, handball to a guy under pressure or end up kicking the f--king ball whilst laying on his back with a 1 handed guide after being caught only to have it go anywhere... He has come along a bit this year but IMO he still scares me and i cant watch when i see him complicating reasonably straight forward situations... Anyone else got any thoughts??

his just trying to provide run out of the backline and i'd much rather we play a bold and attacking game rather than play like pansies and flood our backline then play a counter attacking game of soccer!! Yes thats you adelaide!!

yeah i agree that we need that type of style but it worries me when waite is trying to think on the run, his skill level or feel for the game makes for a recipe for disaster more often then not.

whats worse is that when he is running forward their is a lack of options presenting themselves further down the ground

Reckon he's been pretty good this year. Still believe in an ideal world he'd either be off a Wing or CHF but we'll have to make do until then. He does make me shudder at times at his delay before disposing the ball....only prob is he usually has stuff all as options to give to.

I would also love to see him played permanently on the wing where he could drift back when needed to be 3rd man up in marking contests and also provide an extra option when floating forward, he has the motor to do this, good call.:thumbsu:

Absolutely stunned people are questioning the ability of jarrad waite. He is an a-grade player and has been great. Usually does not turn the ball over when there are options and when we have had him kicking into our 50 he has usually been spot on. Without Waite we are nearly as bad as if we lost a player like fev which cannot happen now haha:D

I am questioning his disposal and decision making, If you think they are spot on then you are not objective and/or delusional, like i said he has come along a bit this year but he still scares me, thats all.

Did it ever occur to you that he might be following coaches / game plan orders?

Whats that to get tackled fall to the ground and then try and kick the ball out of a pack with 1 hand whilst lying on your back or the try and evade tacklers and then kick off balance or hurriedly, You might be right because it happens quite a few times most weeks.

I think this is the real problem for Waite. No doubt his instructions are to play on as much as possible, but he looks up ahead & no-one is running hard enough to present for him. He consequently has to stop, look sideways or backwards for another option. What Waite is doing is right, a perfect example of the value of a play-on style of game being Bower's effort against the Eagles, when he marked, took on the opposition & sent the ball forward, ultimately resulting in the goal that 'snuffed' out the Eagles' comeback. You will find that this style of football has been a significant part of our last quarter fightbacks this season.

I think this year we've seen how versatile Waiteee really is. He's exciting when he plays on and his decision making has improved heaps. The forwards up the ground need to present more and give him an option.

No issue with him playing on at all. In fact, I thought his decision making and disposal has been pretty good. Given the way the game is played now, you slow the game down and you will get slaughtered. He's been great accross HB this year, and would have to be right up there in B&F contention.

Symptoms of a much larger problem - the lack of options presenting up the ground, or a lack of support from team mates in surrounding positions. Waite's committing himself to his role, the guy has worked his arse off this year, will be very close to a B&F IMHO. I cannot bag him for his intensions and efforts this season. Just my opinion...

Emu Bower plays the same way. It comes off more often than not. I thinks it's exhilarating. You know they'll get tackled now and then. I'll take that over stifling their David Dench attacking style. Waitey had a fair game yesterday. He's been excellent for us in our crappiest period ever.

His poor decision making stems from a childhood decision he made. That decision was to support the Bombers, despite his dad being a Champion of our club.

He will never have the decision making of others because of that :thumbsu:

Poor decision making from birth? Any wonder we struggle on the ground.

thats an ace ventura style sentence there!

It worries me because I do not think he is one of our silkiest players (will always be a green racehorse) and as this is undoubtedly part of our game plan why are those up the ground and around him not providing more options.

Waite has single handedly held together our defence since the loss of Bower. Count how many times he saves us with athletic marks

he is also the only player that can provide consistent run out of defence.

Would you prefer another Thornton to chip it sideways?????

i think its fantastic that waite tries to play on at all costs
as was mentioned earlier the real problem is the lack of options when he does play on
one word you hear coaches use a lot is "spreading" and we dont do it well enough as yet
its up to the other boys to provide the option
