Inside Mids : Mundy, Barlow, Fyfe, Neale, C Pearce, Lower, De Boer, Suban

Outside mIds : Hill, D Pearce, Simpson, Morabito, Sheridan, Michie, Menegola, Sutcliffe

Taggers: Crowley

I think Crowley and Mundy would be the oldest of this lot at around 28. We will have the bulk of this midfield group together for many years and they are potentially scary good.

I normally don't compare us the Eagles but their midfield depth after, Kerr, Shuey, Gaff and Priddis looks a tad pedestrian by comparison.

The club can afford to target KPPs in a big way in the next couple of off seasons.

I don't necessarily agree with the way you grouped the players, but I think for the most part we've certainly got the majority of players that will take us forward. If all these guys deliver on their potential we should be successful.

I agree that our midfield is starting to take shape nicely, but you probably need to include the Selwood brothers in the Eagles midfield depth

Fair points, but it has to be said:

I can't wait till our midfield group is at its prime and delivering lace out to Pav ... Oh right he likely won't be around then.

List management #winning.

I would say it is looking good and a really good turn around from 2008 when Lloyd and Bond took over.

People quickly forget the shape our list was in 2007 and how much better it is now. Remember to give them a chance to finish off our list with a few KPF, I am sure they have planned for this.

Midfield builds are never complete. It is the most important area on the ground to have the ascendancy. The KPF will be addressed but it was not our only requirement.

yep. has to be close to over..... you could even consider guys like crozier, mzungu and mellington as guys who could run through there. Doesnt look too bad. Will be interesting to see who makes way out of that group. we cant play them all

You can play most of them. There was 17 players named, you generally line-up with 15 running players.

22 players minus KP:

Pavlich (CHF), McPharlin (CHB), Dawson (FB), Johnson (KPD3), Sandialnds (R) and Clarke/Bradley (R/F)

16 players minus specialist:

Walters (FP), Mayne (KPF3), Spurr (BP) and Crowley (T)

12 players from those mentioned in the opening post (plus Ballantyne, Mzungu, Ibbotson, Crozier, Mellington and whoever else you like).

Note: I've included Ballantyne in the midfield bunch.

Pretty much every outside midfielder listed besides Hill and D Pearce are unproven, and could as easily be delisted in two years as best 22.

Lots of teams can put together potential lists like this. Its all hypothetical, anyway GWS and GC are going to be stronger all over the ground pretty soon. We really need Barlow Mundy and Fyfe to have huge seasons this year.

Without going into too many specifics, like GC - we have ALLOT of outside runners, some of them can win the ball on the inside but we don't have a dearth of pure inside ball winners that other teams have. Having said that we have more than enough outside guys that can still shovel it out to other outside guys.

I think we need mundy and barlow to be injury free. If that happens we will be ok

As 13then7 said, it's ongoing and is never really complete but in terms of our current list I reckon we'll take one more in the rookie draft and the club will be very satisfied at the quantity, the potential quality and the mix of our list of midfielders for 2013. But, it starts all over again mid-season when they have their next list review. Some mids may lose the faith of the coaches, some will lose form or confidence, some will want to leave, some won't realise their potential etc, etc, so as 1 goes at seasons end, he'll need to be replaced. And so it goes...

I wouldn't consider Gaff pedestrian. If I could take one player from the eagles it would be Gaff. Outright gun, A-grader and just hit 20.

Yeah, this is pretty much it, along with Fyfe. If they all have strong pre-seasons and stay fit then we're in business. Might get away with 1 out, but if 2 of them are injured or out of form then we're in trouble.

I'd take Embley and then lock him in a basement and kick the s**t out of him every day

People have fairly short memories. At the beginning of the year, Fyfe does his shoulder, Mundy and Barlow short of a preseason and we look decidedly average. Our best midfielder from rounds 1-11 was Clancee Pearce.

Matt DeBoer played some cameo's as a midfielder mid year, he was very good, pretty much won us the Richmond game, but hasn't lasted a full season in that position.

Stephen Hill probably had his most consistent year and worked through a tag admirably but i wouldn't rely on him to consistently average 30 touches.

We tried Ballantyne as a midfielder which was essentially a failed experiment, his absolute best work is in the forwardline either in the pocket or on a HFF applying pressure.

Mzungu has an amazing work ethic but isn't a classy midfielder, minimal ball finding ability and not much hurt factor in terms of disposal. His biggest attribute is his defensive pressure which is unquestionable.

Relying on Clancee Pearce, Stephen Hill, Ryan Crowley, Mzungu to lead the show can hardly be considered a finished product.

We are hoping Lachie Neale, Cam Sutcliffe, Nic Suban, Tom Sheridan move into the upper echelon of midfielders. Similar hope for the chronically injured Morabito and Michie.

We can't have a midfield that relies on 2-3 players to lead the way.

Once Hill, Simpson, Morabito, Neale, Sheridan, Pearce x2, DeBoer are performing at the level Fyfe, Barlow and Mundy have already produced we'll have a finished product. Until then, its a work in progress.

I really think we miss a player or two who can do that. Often talk about a lot of Swan's or Ablett's touches being rubbish and people preferring 17 damaging touches from Hill or 20 from Mundy. Still all premium midfields have some of those 30+ touches players while a lot of our midfielder are a bit prone to get to little ball...
