I’m disenchanted.
Yes we have some nice mids, so does every other team
We still don’t have a back 6, CHF or small fwd
I’m watching less and less, but big footy is my therapy
Youngest and least experienced list in the comp and today you saw when we had it going we were putting Freo to the sword and should have went into half time with a bigger lead.

People need to be patient. If you can’t appreciate the improvement from the last few years then I am not sure what game you were watching.

I think people have some unrealistic expectations in the wins column this year. We are going to get a lot of performances like today where a bad patch of footy has us losing games. But give these kids time and the group to gel and that will become less and less.

We’ll see.
Like I said, disappointing to lose to a team we beat this time last year and still to be making excuses.

It’s great a lot of people have hope but it was a quarter and a half of good football. When we were put to the sword we had nothing.

Is it too early to start looking at pick 1 for next year ?

If we had a good culture (a high performance culture - not a “joking around and having a good time without achieving anything” culture), we could get pick 28 and it wouldn’t matter - he’d become a superstar because he wouldn’t be surrounded by mediocre senior players who stink it up and still get picked.

Or made captain.

It’s the standards set. Throwing a heap of high draft picks at us won’t work if those picks don’t see great examples to follow or anyone to emulate.

I don’t care about draft picks. There was a time that this club could take rejects from other clubs and make them superstars. We’re the antithesis of that these days.

I'm finding it fascinating that non North Melbourne supporting people look at this team and these games and they are impressed to the point of genuine concern about how good this team is going to be. But North Melbourne people, as seen here on Big Footy, are all thinking doom and gloom. Like I say, fascinating.

T.V. generated highlights v sitting through 120 minutes of agony most weeks. 6 years and counting.

Negatives far outweigh any positives.

Exactly and sadly this ain’t Rock Bottom yet. The holes in the list. Gee. :stern look

Yesterday feels terrible because I am fairly certain since the conclusion of the 2019 season we have won exactly 2 games of footy in Victoria in front of our fans. the tigers game in 2022 and the West Coast game first round last year. That would be about as bad a run of form lack of success for any sporting team in any sporting league.

They don't have any stake in us, it doesn't really matter to them. Usually high on a free W for their mob, saying "Wow, you guys will be good some day!" and then they move on until next we meet.

For us, there are no W's in sight. Maybe a couple, if we can get over the other bottom dwellers... which in itself has proved difficult in the recent past. And we have to be painfully reminded of it every week.

You miseryguts have short memories.

Today was a disappointing result. But it was also some of the most exciting footy we've played since... 2 games ago v GC, which was the best since the mini-bump Richmond and Collingwood wins under Rhyce.

We have so much talent in the team compared to the past. You know the list. We have an actual gameplan which we haven't had for some time. We can kick goals. We have an entire backline with quality components developing in the VFL. We've reduced our major list gaps to just a KPF and a small forward (if you include Logue and W. Dawson as quality KPDs). We've retired the swamp of mediocre experienced spuds and passed through the loss of Cunnington and Goldstein. We can run out games. We have an injury list that fits on a single A4. We won't be losing any quality to age for some time.

Rock Bottom is now so clearly in the rear view mirror that we can begin debating when it actuially was.

Was it the last of our soul-destroying "safe" 50-point floggings under Noble including 2 goals to 18 after quarter time?

Or the whacking we got in round 23 that same year after 5 consecutive losses after the brief spirit we showed as Nobes was shown the door?

Two games ago - and just a year later - we smashed a better GC in the corresponding fixutre.

Even the 19 games streak last year wasn't as bad as either of those points. The moments of promise, the performance of the younger player and the Clarko stuff made it feel much more manageble.

We have become a very young, talented team that has to learn to work together and get some consistency.
Now to bury a chicken bone and lift the curse.

How cooked is the sentence “Even the 19 game streak last year wasn’t as bad”

Keep on reaching for the stars

Without wallowing too much I agree fundamentally with this line. I think Logue will stiffen us up massively, in fact I genuinely believe getting Sellers and Comben into this team will also help. I'm no longer waiting for it to turn, it has, we just need to follow through now and I think we'll get plenty out of this year to enjoy.

They played a quarter and a half of (or less) of good football too and when we put them to the sword they had nothing. If we'd kicked straighter the game would have been closer or the outcome different and we are seeing who can and can't stand the heat. Every game we see improvements and I'm looking forward to what the next game brings. Especially if we select the likes of Sellers and Bergman or Comben for it.

We still lost to a team we defeated this time last year. No amount of spin or hope changes that.

If we select the likes of Comben. Why haven’t we?
Why was Shiels sub?
Why TF was Ford sub and CCJ playing a whole match?

I want to be as optimistic as you are, but after 6 years of dross and a coaching/team selection panel that isn’t addressing some fundamental issues, unfortunately I’m not. Yet.

I want to be wrong about this.

Well according to Kayne Cornes we have been in this rebuild for 10 years this morning

7 or 8, not 10.

He also said a couple years ago that we’ve gone through a million coaches or something to that effect.

He’s been a bit more positive about us of late.

As the Panel said, the proper rebuild started 2 years ago.

We went from on fire to dire in the space of one quarter of footy.

No wonder so many of us went from elation to devastation.

It always hurts more when you experience the high before the fall. The high was through the roof so the fall felt catastrophic.
Exactly 💯
It felt so much worse because we looked like a million bucks in the first half.

Anyway I've calmed down now and I will need to learn to be patient and accept we aren't miraculously going to make finals this year and will likely be bottom 4.

I'm always a bit of a dreamer at the beginning of a season I get carried away.

I hear ya, but my main concern is this:

Over the last few years, the club has brought in guys like Atu, Mahony, Spicer, Edwards, Tucker, Howe, Biggy, D Stephens, J Crocker, J Archer, Will Phillips, Jed Anderson, Bonar, Hansen Jr, CCJ & re-signed Turner.

Now, the persons(B Rawlings)/people who thought these guys could add something to our list, are STILL there!!!!! What confidence can you have in our future, when the powers that be, honestly believed the above mentioned players will improve our list? You can't. You just can't.

Sure, we've landed Sheezel, Dursma, Wardlaw & McKercher, but so we should!!! They're Top 5 draft picks FFS.

If we're going to rely on top 5 draft picks to get our club into finals, it'll be 2032 & Sheezel, Wardlaw & co. will be well & truly past their best!!! And probably no longer at the club in the search of success.

Feel free to allay my concerns.
