Is Todd Marshall a once in a generation key forward?

Lol. As I said in the thread, under Hinkley it’s been a clear directive for players to pass it off and we’ve seen it from champions of the club in boak and gray a 1000 times much less every other player

To single out todd as if it’s the first time we’ve ever seen it is ******* next level bullshit.

Todd was our best kf tonight by a mile. Was competitive all night giving us a target to kick to.
He had 6 marks inside 50 and 3 shots at goal. There is no mandate to pass off more than 50% of your shots at goal when you have the 4th best conversion rate in the team this season and to suggest there is...is some next level bullshit.

We only had 2 kfs and one was an 8 gamer. Kudos to Todd for being the best of them.

The issue here in particular is that he let his team down by not stepping up and taking his shots at goal when his conversion rate is one of the best in the team. To suggest that other players regularly pass off half of their shots at goal as a coaches directive is just another attempt by you to defend Todd at all costs from any criticism even when justified.

That was one of the most frustrating games I've seen from Marshall. Todd, YOU ARE OUR FORWARD. Why is one of, if not the best kicks for goal on our team passing off to Rozee exactly the same distance out on a worse angle inside forward 50? Someone please help explain that to me because to me that's exactly what Todd is in the side to do, kick at goal. If he doesn't want to do it then he shouldn't ******* play. .
Last 2 minutes, we need a goal. Guess where Hot Toddy is?? Defensive 50!

Honestly that was a droppable performance.

I said it at the time but an incredibly tough conversation might need to be had at the end of the year. We dont want to see him end up like a Jordan Ridley or Paddy McCartin where a light breeze can knock him out and he could have lifelong problems.

Easier shots on goal? Todd would have been better off kicking to the hotspot ideally to the advantage of a teammate if possible. Rozee definitely had a harder shot. The other two were nothing passes taking into account Bonners GA% and the fact he is a left footer kicking from his skinny side.

I'd back Todd to kick at least one of these on a bad day.

1691278211182.png Target 1: Rozee who is maybe 10 metres closer to goal but on a 15 to 20 degree greater angle and to his detriment as a right footer.
1691278371906.png Target 2: JHF is maybe 5 metres closer to goal (judging by his position next to the man on the mark) on basically the equal but opposite angle.
1691278606810.png Target 3: Bonner who is slightly closer to goal although distance shouldn't come into it. On a better angle although Bonner is a left footer who is on the wrong side for kicking at goal and has kicked 2 goals 8 behinds this year.

You can do the exact same thing for boak or gray ffs.

Targeting Todd for passing it off when club greats have routinely done the same thing outs you for what you’re doing, looking for reasons to slam Marshall.
Boak is a garbage set shot, Marshall is specialist forward and constantly spoken of as being one of the best in the game. He should have taken responsibility himself instead of giving it to players in harder positions.

Time for a run in the 2s next week, Finlayson back in Marshall out who can be made to earn his spot in the side.

It's obvious Marshall isn't going to be a generational key forward, but I still believe he will be very effective working with the likes of Georgiadis and Lord in future seasons, and there isn't much doubt those concussions affected him for a while.

Many of us have been guilty of being keyboard warriors on occasion, but some of the comments about him recently have been just a tad over the top.

Rubbish. Boaks just one example. What about Robbie gray? Capable of kicking game-winners from 50 out but passed it off a million times during his career here.

Passing it off is a clear club directive under Hinkley. Always has been. To suddenly take aim at todd over it is bizarre.

He was also very competitive in the air last night and without him we wouldn’t have gotten near Geelong.

We should be playing both Todd and finlayson next week, not dropping Todd lol.

I don't disagree that its clearly a directive from Hinkley, but in Marshalls case last night at least 2 of the players where harder shots at goal, without considering the fact Marshall is suppot to be our best set shot.

I would rather he had the shots to, but I’m taking issue with those slamming him as if we’ve never seen it before and ignoring that it’s been a club wide issue far worse than what we saw last night under Hinkley, and the connotations that todd was some sort of negative last night rather than our only competitive kf who provided leads and attacked the ball in the air.

What we’re seeing it what El_Scorcho and I have noticed and called out before.

Posters just itching and waiting to pull out the knives for a kf they don’t like and willing to apply standards they don’t apply to other players to him.

I don't think Marshall had a head knock last night, I think he hurt his ribs and went down to the rooms to get strapped up, it looked like he landed on the ball diving for a mark. It kinda explains he's not going for big shots wrenching his body kicking.

These are my thoughts, I don't actually know, happy to be corrected

For all we know he's had ongoing headaches and the doc told him she'll be right just take a couple of aspirin
Genuinely had the same thought last night. He hit his head and looked dazed again last night and Dr Kevorkian-Fisher sent him right back out there.

Imagine if we found out during the week he has delayed concussion symptoms lol. The fine would probably bankrupt the club. And to be honest at this point we'd kind of deserve it.

He's servicable, but he's never going to be our number 1 unless we screw up our list management, which probably seems to be the case.

He was our number 1 for large periods last year and was last night and done well in the role.

If anything he’s better when he’s our #1 target. Has more space to lead and mark.

As I’ve said before do we want him to be our number 1 kf?

No. Ideally we want 2-3 competitive kfs all capable of taking over games.

I think our key forward collection is very strong, it’s just a horrible system they’re working in.

We’re losing games because of a s**t backline, a forward system that prioritises repeat stoppages / inside 50’s over marking and scoring and the reliance on the brilliance of 2-3 players to win us games.

Good thinking and a good on Marshall being assertive about his own well being. Previous video when he was obviously distressed and Dursma put his arm around i did not like the optics at all. Players have rights about their own physical and mental health and standing up for themselves will assist them when their career is over.

Did all the work to have a massive night. Worked hard, got in good positions, clean hands on the lead. If he takes his shots and he kicks them he probably kicks 5 or 6 goals and we win the game.

But he doesn't, and if you take out into account his various brain fades, you come away from it wondering if he almost got us the win or actually cost us the game.

He's not a young player and I doubt he's going to improve much. He projects as being a average-to-good player and not a good-to-great player. Just doesn't seem to have the temperament to be 'the guy'

The idea that a player who had 10 marks and kicked 2 goals and was in our top 5 scoring supercoach players on the ground should be dropped is laughable.

Drop him for who?

This is like when that poster kept arguing that we should select Matt Thomas over Boak because Boak wasn't playing to his full potential.

Seems to struggle to make the distance a lot in recent times. Wonder if there's something limiting him like a groin or hamstring.

I think the same thing from a couple of his passes off last night. Usually he'd slot those.
