Talking to a Collingwood supporting work colleague just today - I said I don't think Rankine would have made much difference in either final but he said the whole thing was a complete deflater on finishing top - felt sorry for us and reckons it was a stitch up

Need to be more resilient though and need a top line mid - (Noah Anderson would be nice about now, eh?)
I've bumped into a couple of old Collingwood supporter mates in the last couple of weeks, and when I mentioned the subject i got similar reactions, one shook his head and said he couldn't believe it left the field, the other shook his head and said 'what happened to what happens on the field stays on the field.
They were both disappointed and seemed a little embarrassed Collingwood made an issue of it.

Interesting to see Mitch Brown who is now the elected spokesperson of the LGBTQA community praising Izak for his apology and even went to the effort to contact him. Watch all the media say nothing after they basically wanted Rankine ran out of the game for their own narrative.

By the very standards the AFL set for itself by standing up for gay rights in suspending Izak Rankine, then 100% Patrick Dangerfield and Bailey Smith deserve 6 weeks from round 1 next season for openly ridiculing gay people with their Broke Back mountain reference. Of all the stupid things to do, Rankine, heat of the moment said one word. These guys, on the piss decide to make fun openly of gay people with a clear homophobic photo.

was ''this is what losing a GF does to you'' meant to mean that it made him gay?

That’s absolutely 1 interpretation. Another might be it makes you need comfort and reassurance. When you win you strut in full of confidence, when you lose you’re a shell and need hugs. I think they’ll have their ducks in a row and it won’t be the former.

Yeh, there doesn’t seem to be anything that Geelong can’t get away with. Legends of the Fall? Yeh, right.

Didn’t GWS get into trouble last year and they did it in the privacy of a hotel (no public patrons)?

AFL double standards in action yet again.

Like someone posted yesterday.
Toby Greene will end up copping something over this. ;)

That's not the first time AFL players have gone to Mad Monday as Broke Back Mountain characters and nothing was said by the VAFL.

Yes but the difference is back two months ago the footy world was collapsing when a player made said one word on the footy field.

If it was bad enough then, then this is no different. So dressup are acceptable but a word said in the heat of battle isn’t acceptable.

Like umpiring, there doesn’t appear to be anything consistency when it comes to the AFL.

Much like GWS players getting punished for a private event that wasn't even public, yet this was publicly displayed on the player's own social media account.

Also zero criticism for Chris Scott and the Geelong medical staff for ignoring player welfare by leaving Cameron out on the field with a broken arm.

Throw in Tanner Bruhn being out on the field with the Geelong players in the grand final despite facing serious criminal charges.

The crickets from the AFL media (that's stacked with Geelong supporters) about any of this is telling.

If it was us they'd all have their pitchforks out.

Its unbelievable isnt it.

Rankine says one word, hardly a voice from the community affected yet the AFL and the AFL media deemed him to be the worst person on the planet on their behalf and were deadset willing to run him out of the game because he said one word on a football field that several other players have said in the past and received no criticism. Yet Rankine was expected to address every player, the AFLW side, it was a crime he left his house to go train and the media wanted him to address them then ****ing had the gall to complain when he did.

Its about time a non victorian club called them out. The AFC should outright ban these clowns from all press conferences in the future for their treatment of Rankine and they should call out this double standard as the reason why. The AFL media act this way because clubs let them.

From the Rainbow Crows:

As part of AFLW pride round, we want to share some positive actions that have happened lately and others upcoming.

Izak Rankine reached out to our founder, Brett, and they caught up for a yarn last week. They had an open and honest conversation about the past couple of months and it's impacts. Izak expressed his remorse for his actions and desire to build a connection with Rainbow Crows, and assist in making positive changes in the club and our game.

We thank Izak for the yarn, wish him a nice break, great upcoming season, and look forward to building a connection.

_______

I know how much this had devastated members of the Rainbow Crows so this is a massive step forward into repairing that relationship. Well done Izak.

This is the positive to have come out of the whole situation and could have been done quietly, without the whole thing blowing up publicly and without Rankine getting suspended.

Can't agree the apology goes to the victim Quaynor (if he even was as seemed he considered it gamesmanship) and the rest can go virtue signal somewhere else.

Like Geelong did with bailey smith for a worse act, then it's over.

Quaynor just laughed at it I don't think he was actually offended. I think he just put it in his back pocket ready to rub him out for the rest of the season.

I think Rankine was simply having a go at Quaynor's painted finger nails ....and used an analogy

Not for one moment do I think it was a personal attack on Quaynor, the person
