Nick was a more talented and consistent player than Jack

But he was iffy in finals while Jack rises to the occasion

Jack for me on those grounds
Nick was fantastic in finals
2004 QF, 2004 PF, 2005 QF 2008 Semi, 2009 QF, 2009 PF,2010 QF, 2010 PF, 2010 GF 1 he was Very good to great

People forget just how bloody good he was.

Nick, like Richo, not only was a bit sub-par kicking wise in general but, more importantly, it was crucial moments in which he tended to fluff his kicks. Key forwards need to kick team lifting goals. Jack is a beautiful kick for goal, and kicks em when they matter, whereas Nick was always a bit iffy. If their kicking was identical, then you'd take Nick all day. But as they are/were, it's very hard to split them. Jack didn't get lucky with his teammates. He played as the sole key forward in 2017 (paired with Josh Caddy as a marking fwd ffs) - not many players could have managed that responsibility. Could Nick? Not sure, with his kicking yips.
Nick's goal kicking was only spotty in 2006 and 2007, other then that he was very good at it.

And Saying Nick could not have manged being the solo forward is a stupid argument, He had zero problems doing it when he was in his 30s where one of his knees was cooked, hell he made All Australian in 2014.

Lol well to be fair, maybe he's smiling because he has 56% career FG percentage?
Lol you've never seen Ben play have you? Don't use basketballers as metaphors if you don't understand the sport

I wouldn't bother arguing with them. The only people in this thread who rate Jack higher than Nick are Tiger supporters. Every neutral rates Nick higher

Begining to think Richmond supporters only started watching footy from 2017

Lol settle petal. Reckon I’ve played and coached basketball at a higher level than you. It was pretty obvious the point I was making - you just pedantically picked up on the semantics. Players like Simmons and Shaq are/were bad shooters in the sense you’re focusing on but obviously also high percentage shooters, which means - by definition - that they are good shooters for the types of shots that they take

He had a few years that were pretty average accuracy wise, but over his career he was only a couple of percentage points lower than Jack.

my point though was that he missed goals at big moments - that is my memory of him as a player, at least. Similar to how if you compare Richo and Carey they actually have the same goal kicking percentage, but everyone knows Carey was a much better kick partly because he kicked accurately when it mattered, not just when the pressure was off like poor old Richo.

im not saying Jack is better than Nick. I’m saying it’s closer than might first appear - largely because of goal kicking in key moments. If you swapped the 2, I don’t believe Jack would have won a flag with the Saints, but I would put it as a distinct possibility that Nick’s goal kicking in crunch time might potentially have have cost Richmond a flag if he played as the sole key forward in the 17 tiges.

Lol funny that you'd lead with that to try and somehow prove me wrong, or atleast shift the goalposts because I can almost unequivocally guarantee you haven't.

Nice comeback to my substantive point about FG%. Oh wait you don't have one but you can guarantee you're super awesome. I concede.

haha good fg% doesn't mean good shooter so I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make now. Nick >>>>>>>>>>>> Jack
