What an unbelievable year Jack is experiencing, neck to neck with Hall for the Coleman Medal honours. A haul of 80+ would be outstanding from our best forward for the youngest team in th comp.
We all know where the short term problem lies. Who will become Jack's KP partner in crime?
Benny Griffiths showed promise during the handful of matches he played, but succumb to another shoulder injury.
Astbury has shown genuine signs and appears to be a frontrunner but has been used as a utility of late.
Vickery may be an option if Graham and Browne are used as Followers.
Post probably needs more game time before judgement day.
Gourdis must be named against the Dees!
I'm unsure whether I've forgotten anyone, but we desperately need to develop another KPF to compliment the current list of exciting youngsters. It will be interesting to see how we use our first draft pick and whether we decide to chose the best available player OR possibly another KPF prospect?

Yea, I was hoping Astbury would start to play more predominately int he forward considering Griffiths is out for the season and we have no other real kp forward. Jack is getting double and triple teamed almost every match now, another real option will free that up considerably.

I know I will get shot down for saying this, but with Dimmas Hawthorn connection (like Clarkson and Port i.e., Dew, Burgoyne and now maybe Cornes) and Roughie seemingly on the outer, I wouldn’t mind them maybe having a go at him. He has shown he can work second fiddle so he could be a great fit to work beside Jack, and Astbury looks great down back, and we still don’t know if Griff will be ok. Just a thought.

Maybe if Jack teaches him how to kick straight he'd be a very good pickup.

Hang on a minute. No one expected JR to be leading the frontline like he has this year, let alone someone else to be stepping up to help share the load.

And to be honest, Jack doesnt help himself. It was only a week or so ago that he was being lambasted for being a self centred sook for not getting what he wanted and giving his own teammates a spray for not getting the service he expected.

Lets not forget where we've come from.

I totally agree. How Roughead can escape the criticism of which Tambling cops all the time has got me absolutely stumped.

It's not all bad. Have a look at the leader board for the "1st year coleman";)

1. Hitchcock 16 goals
2. Nason 13
3. Fyfe 12
4. Martin 10
5. Morabito 10

I'm with you 100%. JR was useless last year as a set shot, so we know that can be turned around. My concern with Roughead is whether he is a head case that can't be fixed, but more than happy to punt it because he can get the pill. Great hands.
Just on JR and Hardwicks comments re the Coleman, I reckon he does get ahead of himself a bit, but in the first half on Sunday the ball just didn't come in right. When he was kicking bags, esp against StK, the ball was coming in super quick and high to a 1 on 1. It was so slow early on last week. Fix that and he'll go nuts again.

I'm loving Jack but that attempted soccer goal (last quarter) was one of the more selfish bits of play you'll see. Get the feeling its those sort of brain farts that Dimma is on about.

Jack reminds me of the kid we all knew at high school with a hint of ADD and a fetish to be loved by all. 99% percent of the time the punt road end works in Jack's favour and lifts him to freakish heights, but occasionally it gets to his scone and the idea of doing something miraculous for the masses puts the team on the back burner. Just a kid though, and I reckon Dimma is all over it like a blue waffle std.

Wow, that's a good stat. Especially since a few weeks ago I read Freo fans saying we had no young small forwards that could even be in comparison with Fyfe

To the OP, yeah, 12 other goal kickers in the team helps things out alot.

Jack has shown to all that height is not the be all and end all to a KPF. Reading ball flight and having good body positioning, and a grab are equally, if not significantly more, important.

Still think that someone around the 195cm mark that has and will develop further endurance is preferable over a 200cm guy like Ty or Benny, and its going to be at least another year or two before their development can be judged.

We have lots of options, this year we are just trying players around. next year it will be the real deal.

Sam Day

Griffiths has to be regarded as speculative, although I also hope for great things. Could become a Rusling real quick

Dont fill our heads with the hope that we will get anywhere near Sam Day.

He is not coming to us. End of.

To be fair, I don't think we do. Fyfe is an absolute freak and when he progresses past the body of a stick insect he'll be a star.

What bout jack anthony? kicked 50 i think last year in a foward line that had many contributors before falling down the pecking order at the pies. I think he would be a good choice. thoughts?

Would go Rusling before Anthony as he is a gun when up and running and would come cheap.

We have:

Griffiths who is speculative but also only played 3 games and is Dimma's love child so chill on this kid for a bit.

Post who everyone raved about as a 200 gamer last year but is struggling. However only his 2nd year so relax.

Tyrone who is going to have to ruck because our ruck stocks are poor at best.

Astbury who looks to be going to CHB.

Gourdis who is being primed as a FB.

I don't want to take a forward with our first pick but wouldn't be against grabbing one with our second if someone decent is available.

Good sides are built around the engine room though so adding to the midfield is first preference for mine.
