Hi guys, serious question for you regarding Jack Riewoldt. Considering backing him for the Coleman, think he's at a value price now at about $2.30 in what I consider a "two horse race", but have a couple of queries which hopefully you can answer?

Firstly, is he carrying any niggling injury? His form has tapered off a little (but that is tapering off from that big peak period he had during the middle of the year... EVERYONE is going to taper off form like that I'd suspect), is he carrying an injury, or perhaps is he just a little tired getting into the latter part of the year?

Also, is Hardwick going to be playing him up the ground as he has recently, because he (Hardwick) is not focussed on the Coleman? I know Hardwick is trying to build for the future, but I would've thought that come Round 22, if there's not much in the Coleman race, SURELY Hardwick will plonk Riewoldt at FF?

Lastly, overall thoughts about how Jack will go in these final few weeks?

Thanks.

I'll take 20% of your cut thanks;

- Probably a mix of getting tired and having 2 or 3 guys going to him in the contest.
- Opposition clubs and players are starting to work out how he plays to take those contested marks he was around the middle of the year.

I don't think he's carrying an injury of any significance and I think Hardwick has been playing him up the ground for short periods just to keep him in the game and to give him a bit of room.

I'll PM you my PayPal details. Thanks in advance.

I've got a funny feeling that he will do well this week, especially if we are in the game for a long way.

Just interpreting some recent comments from The Coach makes me think Jack may have got a word or two in his ear...

Thanks lads.

The way I look at it is, he has a 1 goal lead at the moment, and here's the breakdown of games:

RICH
vs Carl, MCG
vs STK, Etihad
vs Port, Etihad

Two of those games are a real chance for Jack. Carlton are not great defensively, and Port same - especially away for Port, and in Round 22 when they may not be 100% focussed. Against STK, tough job, but he has played well against the Saints (on memory alone there, might be wrong when looking at stats). I am sort of "pencilling" him in for 10 goals -- 4, 2, 4 - in those three games, and if anything I think that's conservative.

WBD
vs Geel, Etihad
vs Syd, SCG
vs Ess, Etihad

Tough one this week against the Cats, especially coming on the back of a zero goal game. The week after, back to his old home ground, he plays the SCG very well, and the final game a real chance for him to cut loose. I pencil him in - for 2, 5, 5.

That gives Hall the win by 1 goal. However, I've been conservative with Riewoldt. This is why the $2.30 (that's just TAB, could be better elsewhere) is appealing... if you guys CAN think of good reasons why he could fire in the last few weeks, then he's the man to beat.

Might have a ping myself. His form has tapered off etc, but he's the genuine article IMO.

Goals Per Round/

Riewoldt - 2, 0, 3, 3, 2, 3, 2, 4, 6, 4, 6, 10, 3, 5, 5, 3, 2, 2, 1

Hall - 3, 1, 6, 4, 5,1, 0,5, 3, 5, 4, 6,3, 2, 6, 4, 7,0

While Jack is on a sharp decline, Hall is kicking large bags, or very little if any.

What needs to be assessed is the teams he plays, last time he played against Essendon & Sydney he had field days, so expect him to kick around 5 & 6 for those games. Geelong this week will be very difficult, especially since they are coming off a loss, so expect him to kick 0-1.

All in all Hall should kick another 12, which puts him at 77.

Jack on the other hand has been on a sharp decline, considering the Blues are very unpredictable, it depends on which Blues come out to play.

Considering we got destoryed in round one against Carlton and he kicked 2 from 4 shots, I'd expect him to do a little better this time. Around 3-4. Against St. Kilda he kicked 6 last time, but this time their defence should be very strong and they will most likely contain him to 1-2. In the last round against the Power, this is where he has his opportunity, he kicked 4 last time in the rain, this time you would expect him to kick 4-5 for that match, From my guess, Jack will kick another 9 - which takes him to 75.

Hall should win, its a worhty punt though, if Jack can step up in the Saints match, I'd say its a good chance he can win it.

Hey Duritz.

Harry Taylor suspected to be out for the Cats this week. But then, heard this morning that a few prime movers for the Dogs may be out with flu also (eg. Gilbee, Cooney).

I think Jack has been quite hamstrung by our style of play over the past few weeks. Against both North and Melbourne, the opposition were happy for the ball to spend extended periods of time being fought for around our forward line, with 30+ players filling the space, making it very hard for JR to have any influence. Then they are happy to rely on fast-break style turnovers to hurt us on the rebound.

The delivery into our forward line has been no where near as fluent as it was 4-6 weeks ago. I have a feeling DH is inwardly happy with this for now.

Sadly, my money would be on Barry, but for the wrong reasons :(

I dunno if it's just because I'm the most nervous man going around at the moment, but I've got a horrible feeling it could slip. I think that's just because I've got a tenner on from Round 8 at 251-1 though..:)

Here's how they fared the last time they played each side:
Hall:
Geelong 3 Sydney 5 Essendon 5

Riewoldt:
Carlton 2 St Kilda 6 Port 4

Considering that's Hall playing Sydney at home and Riewoldt playing Port in pouring rain in Adelaide and Carlton before he blossomed into a star, I think fair predictions are:
Hall:
Geelong 2 Sydney 4 Essendon 6

Riewoldt:
Carlton 4 St Kilda 2 Port 5

That leaves them dead even, so considering Riewoldt's the outsider it's definitely good value. There's also a bit of a chance Hall could be rested instead of taking a trip to Sydney I would think, plus Cooney and others should miss the Geelong game and make life difficult for him.

Pray for me...haha

Dont worry I am nervous too, Ive outlayed alot more than $10 throughout the year but stand to collect nearly 10 grand

Assuming Hall is bug free this week but some team mayes arent Id be suprised if he booted more than 3 on say a Scarlett. Sydney in Sydney is an unknown but given he knows the ground and the ball is likely to be there alot youd have to give him 5 or 6. Then in the last do we think Fletcher would want to go out on the much hyped last game (if it is) having 5 kicked on him? Will the Dogs want to go a million miles an hour for a big kill in this game if the finish in the same spot regardless?

My worry is since thePies game when Jack missed that goal and Cous and a couple of others had ago at him for not passing he seems to have gone goal shy. The Advantage is Richmond cant make finals etc so given they play the last game on the Sunday after Hall has played if Jacks within a few surely they teammates would help him and the club start their success that will follow over the next 5-10 years

Give him that space and He will not only have a coleman chance but probly destroy Port for you in the process.

Less space is killing him, he has 2-3 opponents jumping with him and a team mate sometimes trying to mark the same ball he is trying to mark.

He needs to make more running leads because he can't win in a pack every single contest

It's being circulated that the Doggies are suffering from a flu at the moment (at least the 2nd time this year they've had the flu down there... damn Western Suburbs!) - this may help hamstring Barry this weekend a bit more.

$2.50 - if I can find that I'll have a bet.

Agree 100%, Reminds me of the 2-3 blokes on Lockett every week in his STK days.

Well he got 2 again aginst the blues, which wasnt too bad considering the way they had 3 or 4 around him alot. Id be suprised if Stk play those tactics next week.

Hall needs 3 tonight to be level

Round 20, Jumpin' Jack Flash 2, Big Bad Barry 2, so Riewoldt stays one ahead. What happens if they finish equal? Do they both get awarded a Coleman?
rock, paper, scissors

This bet is now home, IMO....

Unfortunately I decided against it. :o
You live in an awesome town though.:thumbsu:
Jack will win easily. Even in the last quarter against the Saints, the players were going to him at every opportunity.
It will be a Jack goalathon in the 2nd half against Port this week.
