So the legal firm is making the money. The broking firm is losing the money. And the accounting firm is keeping track of it all.

Watts the bet he eventually chooses to go into the Broking Firm cos losing is familiar to him...:p:D...

We don't really need him but he could probably do with some Dimma to harden him up a bit. He is coming to the age where the switch might just flick for a KPP and he could be a superstar but there are no guarantees. I'd take a risk at right price but I doubt we will get a chance

IMO this is a bigger risk than D Garlett!!

If you know the solution to get players to have a crack after years of never doing it in the sense it does not appear to have what it takes as part of their make-up ie. simply not competitors at heart, well i bow down before you and you have a pot of gold in your knowledge:D

It would be different if he has shown something at some stage even if in the juniors like a Frawley but I think Watt's competitive streak has always been questioned, hasn't it??

The perception that high drafted players will play better at better clubs is a myth, Clubs have long drafted ex-Richmond top 10 picks to find out it wasn't our club that made them shit, it was the fact they were fundamentally shit. Would you want Melbourne recruiters picking our next top draft pick in 2014? I wouldn't trust their judgment on these matters.

This.

I had a quick look at the last 12 or so years for players who were drafted high (Top 20), didn't do well initially, and were then traded on and improved significantly. The ones who stand out are Scott Thompson (Thompson asked for a trade, Melbourne didn't want to lose him) and Jay Schulz. You could argue Bradley (struggling at Essendon, serviceable at Freo) - Rhyce Shaw (from 1999), but other than those........

It just doesn't happen.

Apart from being soft and not working hard enough on game day and on the track he's also positionless. He is similar to Dean Putt in that he is a really tall flanker

In summary.... no thanks

Melbourne should trade him to us and get a draft pick so he can help us in our premiership window. Then in 6 years when Melbourne might be good he can make his triumphant return to the Dees ;)

Why would we want to pay overs for a kid who won't make us any better?

To be honest, I have never thought Watts was a KPP. Never had the killer instinct. However, despite what people say, he is a very highly skilled player. I think he would do well on a wing. He seems to play his best further up the ground, so I wouldn't mind us getting him and putting him on a wing. Would certainly be an upgrade on Grigg.

sorry for the intrusion, but i think he would be a great pick up for you. No idea what you would have to give up to get him, but he would thrive at tiger land imo.

Could easily play that 3rd tall forward behind Vickery and Jack, or go and play of the half back.

He actually looked ok for a while against you blokes on Monday when the ball came near him he actually attacked it. What I didn't like (was at the ground) was watching him just stand on the wing and watch Melbourne have an inside 50. A Nick Riewoldt would have bolted down to give an option.

I liked his game in the first half against Collingwood. Even saw him don't argue someone late in the first quarter. I reckon if handled correctly he could be anything. Hope he doesn't end up another one of the many talented kids Melbourne have ruined in recent years.

He is 22 and key position size. Every club rated him at draft time and despite all the hate he has shown glimpses of real talent.

Just when he should be coming into his best years his club is going down the toilet, has a horrible record in player development and they have paid big for 3 key forwards that will all be given priority over him. The future for him at Melbourne is as a key defender in a back line that is going to be under enormous pressure every week. If I was him I'd be looking for a fresh start somewhere else. I'd also be watching as much video of Nick Riewoldt as possible.

That said, he is a risk and they would want a heap so pass.

Please take note, Tambling was no 4, Fiora was no 4, JON was no 8, Jack Watts was no 1...the common denominator in all that is the word "WAS". All of them were a judgement made by recruiters and all of them are wrong!!!!!!!!!

For all this talk about 'Tall flanker' - can someone actually name one in the league currently who is about Watts' size (or even near it)? Oh, and are any good? Maybe Johnson of Freo - but he tends to play more in defence.

Looking at Watts play, the only role I can see him playing in the future is the hit-up forward - live between the 50m arcs as the target for coming out of defence. If he's as fast as they say, and can take take a reasonably contested mark, then maybe.

But at the moment, he doesn't look like it.

You think he would have turned out the same had he been recruited to Collingwood, Geelong or Sydney?

Probably still not worthy of no 1 draftee but I bet his efforts and attitude wouldn't be as mediocre.

.

Vickery & McBean could both kill it as tall flankers IMO. Watts - not so much.
