Christ some Dees fans are petty; compare the way they carry on about their ex-players versus North fans with Lindsey Thomas. There's a fair amount of PTSD dog with them being told they'd ruined a horde of first round picks, I guess.

If he were an ex-Port lad I know most of us would be happy a good servant has had a second chance at building a decent career after he stagnated at our club, like we are with Trengove, Pearce, Young, Ah Chee etc.

So for all the oddly petulant Dees fans scanning this thread willing yet another young kid (whose career you ****ed up) to fail, enjoy this quote from another thread:

I had another insight into Jack Watts from my mate at the dog park the other night, who’s been away working in NSW so updates have been limited.
So Jack is absolutely loving life at Port, as is Trengove mind you. Reckons the culture at Port Adelaide is like nothing he’s experienced. The inclusiveness and family feel leaves Melbourne’s for dead. “Best decision he’s made”.
In another twist, he’s been telling Jack Watts about his Port fanatic mate at the dog park he has to meet. So he reckons both Jack’s might be coming out to the park this week. Hold me.....

Imagine being so starved of success at a club that your supporters genuinely think posting a photo of the bog-average mature age bruise free flanker you plucked out of the VFL on another team's board is a gotcha moment.

I for one am happy we have a CHF like Watts. Clearly worked well with Dixon and Hoff who got 8 goals between them yesterday.

Using Pick 31 in the draft on a kid wasn't going to help our need for a ready made KPF.

Marshall at least gets the luxury to develop at a lower level for a bit instead of getting thrown in the deep end, or even worse, Just having Dixon up there with short people.

I'm so glad we got this guy. Has bought into the club lock stock and barrel and will only get better. I can't remember which quarter it was, but that mark in the backline, size up the situation, and go BANG with a perfect switch across field was pure Jack Watts. Such a pity Westhoff fluffed his lines with the set shot on the end of it all.
Watts is a smart footballer, great guy to have around the group, and an all round asset.

Second quarter. It was an excellent contested mark on the lead. It followed a few minutes of sloppy play by his teammates. Clean mark, wheeled around and kicked a beautiful 45m cross field pass to Ebert, who kicked to Dixon, to Westhoff for a bloody point. Great play from Watts. He really played a very good game. If that becomes his norm, we have an absolute gem.

It would be like us posting a picture of Bonner who we picked up with the pick they gave us back when we picked up the Toump... bizarre!

It’s not like Watts (or Trengove, Toumpas or Barry) pissed on Melbourne on the way out, like Chaplin, Stevens or (to a lesser extent) Jacobs. Outside these ones (and Heuskes, as he’s just a shit human, lucky to not have served at her Majesty’s pleasure) Port fans would be happy to see any of our players traded or who left for another club, back at Port post career, to mix with the fans at Alberton.

You can understand how the likes of Adelaide never got (and probably never will) what ex-players mean to a club, but even though Port does it best, you’d expect a club as old as Melbourne to be better at this.

This. I think the thing with someone like Watts buying into the club is that it makes us even more of a potentially desirable destination for even the Vic Metro kids. Watts was the kind of guy who no-one ever thought would leave the Melbourne metro area. He is generally well-respected by his ex-teammates and around the league. Just listening to him after a game, whether it is for the As or Bs, it is clear that he is enjoying it immensely. That has to help.

I mean, we will never be the destination club like Collingwood. But it doesn't hurt. At the very least, it puts us ahead of our neighbours.

We’ve hit all reasons to join a club -
Coming home to SA
Moving to a footy state, without having to go to Victoria (Rockliff)
Getting away from the pressure of a high pick from Melbourne (Watts). It used to have to be Sydney or QLD to do that

Really, unless you desperately want to get to a particular state or club, Port is appealing now to players from everywhere and every situation. From sitting with 15k in the cold at Footy Park to this, from the start of this decade to now is mind blowing, when you stop to think about it.

And, not surprisingly, the good feelings From Port are reciprocated by the players we lose.
Jacko Trengove on SEN effusive of our fans respectful treatment of him when he came here to play against us.
Shame these Demon supporters can’t be as considerate to their own ex players.

Excuse the intrusion. Not all Dees fan's wish ill will towards Jack W or Jack T - even Dom Barry. Jack was always one of my favourite Dees players - probably because of the way we shafted him in the early days to get butts on seats when he was not ready. Then we inflicted Mark Neeld on him. I for one hope he has a great career with you guys (except when he plays us then he can feel free to play one of his low intensity, go missing games). As for Jack T I hope you guys get to see more of his best as I hate seeing careers cruelled by injuries (Dees players or not).

Now back to your regularly scheduled Dees fans are weird comments.

DL.

Thoughts on the Toump?

And why would you wish ill towards a player that was pushed out. It was clear that Goodwin wanted Watts out and Watts wanted to stay.

No wonder we chased him so hard. He fills a need on our list. He's lived up to my expectations.

So Mrs Wylde took Zakk Jnr to the school holiday clinic today...

She came home doting over how much of a gentleman Jack is. Said he was amazing and so good with the kids.

And yet again the common theme of him going above and beyond with his interaction. So good and engaging with the kids.

What a guy :hearts:

Showed the goods v Stkilda.Played well for the Magpies in two games. That was good for Jacks confidence to dominate in the Sanfl. And that was shown v the saints.
Have the feeling he's in the right time and place to show the potential all have hoped to see from JW.
