Harry was no teenager when we got him, and had had a long and healthy grounding in arguably the second best footy comp in the land. Comparisons are always highly subjective at the best of times, so without ranking him, Jackson's doing pretty damn well for one so young and with so short a time spent within an ALF club environment.

One thing I see him do, and Guthrie as it happens, is take extra care laying the ball on his boot.
It's like a little frozen moment in a pressure situation, where he takes a millisecond to concentrate totally on connecting boot to ball.
I noticed it a few times in the GWS game.

He has surprised me this year. Wells has chosen superbly again!

Oz not sure there is much difference. H didn't play much till he was 18 or so. Jacko playing seniors down in Tassy.. Not the same but similar.
But I do agree , he seem to have taken to the AFL environment like a duck to water. I suspect with a year or two he is going to look like a Rooke. Build up the body a bit watch out.

As I said earlier , would we swap him for Grundy now? , I doubt it. All bow to the Wizard!!!

most impressive thing about Thurlow is his vision, I think alot of young kids blaze away when they have the ball he is great at lowering his eyes and finding the right target

Yep, he's already got good composure. Much like Guthrie and Horlin-Smith. Can't teach that, no wonder they rate him so highly.

I've got a bias towards classy ball users, so naturally Thurlow is already a favourite of mine. The kid is pure silk.

Yep. Except Daniel.

Yeah, as a 19 year old Menzel was doing the spectacular on a weekly basis. Devastating that we're already talking about his career in the past tense, less than two years after he ripped Collingwood's defense to shreds and then booted two early goals against the Hawks in his first ever final a week later.

It's astonishing to think that the top three most exciting/most talented attacking players we have under the age of 25 (Varcoe, Vardy and Menzel) have played eight games between them over the last two seasons. We're going well at the moment obviously, but the lack of development time in to those super-talented x-factor types could really compromise our ability to effect a smooth rebuild over the next couple of years.

Just to look into a glass half full for the moment. The games that player are getting due to other being injured has given the other players a better chance to develop.

Would I like to see Vardy , Varcoe and Menzel get and stay fit. Obviously. Menzel as much as anyone hurt us last year but when they all come back (not if) we will be stronger because of this.

Thurlow IMO is on par with Selwood and Hawkins as the best prospect we've signed in a decade. Think he's nailed on to be a star and it's only his physical development that's stopping him from play as a regular at the moment. I'll be putting a fair chunk of money on him to win the rising star next season if he's eligible.

High praise there Dan :thumbsu:
On the rising star , I doubt it but thats just my cynicism. So much young talent out there and guys like Hogan and Martin will be strong performers.

Thurlow looks to be a long termer for us , and we are putting together a group that will make transition so much better than most thought it would be. Shows why "tanking" is such a crock , plenty of talent out there in the top 20/30 players , you must pick wisely and/or put time into them.

Now if we could find a 196 version of him to develop for CHB , we would be laughing.

Save your money and put it on Mitchell. This boy is ready made star material. Thurlow will be good, no doubt, probably very good and wouldn't change him for quids.....

Mitchell looks on another plane right now...

The question is ... how many games will he play this year. Another 8 and he will be ineligible for next year. This year can anyone look better than Omera?

Mitchell definitely won't be eligible next year, it will be his third year in the system. Thurlow could potentially be eligible, depending on how many more games he gets this year.

*edit: My bad, Mitchell could potentially still be eligible. Did they change the rules recently? Always thought only first year and second years were eligible.

Mitchell I think will play too many games this season. He's a regular in that team from here. Doubt Thurlow will play more than 3-4 which will have him under the 10.

Rare for a KP forward to win a rising star, let alone one that will surely be in a bottom four team. Martin is going to go into the season favorite you'd think. Still the only thing I see missing from Thurlow is the body size necessary to compete. Expect he'll put another 5kg on over summer and he'll be ready.

I also agree, barring injury, that Mitchell will play almost all games this year. Thurlow could play enough to make him ineligible next year, he has already shown the doubters that he has the talent. Many on here were saying he wouldn't play one game. I don't think he'd win the RS next year anyway, regardless. He will be a good player, but there will be some freaks coming through next year as well.

Id be one of those , though too many would be ahead of him , when you consider how we have managed our picks in the past. But the meshing of - him be a little more ready and our injuries have allowed him to come in.
And Im sure most would be more than happy to see kids that are ready get their chance. A game given at Geelong is a game earned , so well done to JT
