Would have offered more as sub than Stringer, should have played.

I do agree, although I'd rather Caddy come in for Freo (it will be a stoppage fest, and he too played well on sat).

I though Caddy was pretty poor in the VFL for a player who is supposed to be AFL ready, Smedts looked good & Thurlow showed his class which he has in spades.

Really?
Clearly BOG for mine, looked a class and a half above.

Get fair dinkum, Caddy was BOG.
And the other two looked good in what they did, they just didn't do a lot.

who do you remove from the back-line though?

J Hunt

unlucky cos he has been serviceable but he makes the backline too slow and isn't as good as Enright or Guthrie (Guthrie was poor on the weekend but defensively has been good)

Is Thurlow likely to be getting a game anytime soon? I can't believe he was dropped in the first place. Has been in the best each week in the VFL. Bizarre.

No time soon unfortunately, got injured on the weekend and will be out for a few weeks with that, add in time for match fitness after a break and it could be a month+ before he pushes for a senior recall.

Don't agree that he's stood out in the VFL, but I agree in wondering why he was dropped. Such a good talent and clean kick.

Just wanted to give a shoutout to Thurls - this was months ago, but I don't think I ever mentioned it on here - Turbocat 's avatar just reminded me.

There's a boy about 18-19 in the cheersquad who comes with his Mum to every game - don't know anything about the situation so I shouldn't really comment, but he quite clearly has some form of disability.

Anyway, after Thurlow was drafted, this kid bought the very first Jackson Thurlow badge from the Cats shop. He goes to every VFL game, and Thurls was always really nice to him at every VFL game, had long chats with him whenever he saw him there, and was apparently rapt when he saw that the kid was wearing his badge.

Before his debut, Jackson came over to the fence during the warm up and had a really good chat with him as he does at the VFL games (which is when I gathered the above), talked about how excited he was, etc. I thought it was really nice of him to show a genuine interest in somebody who was, quite clearly, his biggest fan.

We won the match - I can't remember who against - and after the game, all of the players collected those mini footballs from a bag, signed them, and ran off in all directions to hand them out to kids. Now - when this happens, the players never come to the cheer squad. When Thurlow grabbed his footy - 150 metres away at the other end of the ground - he jogged in a straight line directly to the cheersquad to find his biggest fan, gave him the footy, ruffled his hair, and then ran down the race with the rest of the boys.

Really nice moment. Good on you, Thurls. :thumbsu:

My mantle has been taken??:D

Awesome story, good to hear that about Jackson Thurlow. Bring on 2014!

I can assure you, you've got nothing on this kid :D

When Enright got injured I said to him "Thurlow might play a final next week!" - You should have seen the grin on his face.
Awwww, that was a nice story to read Gysenn, thanks for posting it :thumbsu:

I hope the players realize how much these simple gestures mean to some people
