Doesn't kick in until 2019, so we will no doubt throw it out there as an option......can cats trade their first round pick? thought they had to use it.

But they are all ferraris. Monster ones supposedlycorrect and they will see him as a young player who's not best 22 at gws.
Would one of our first round picks we hold and possibly a shuffling of later rounds picks be around the mark at trade time for Hopper? I'm assuming he doesn't really make his way back into GWS best 22 given his injuries and form line and with GWS to get a lot of players back over the coming weeks.Broke a finger. Matt Kennedy has now gone past him and shows more heart, if he comes straight back in its BS.

A hypothetical (as usual around here) - GWS retain Kelly on big numbers for next couple of years...... cats give pick [19] (from Carlton) this year, plus first round pick next year, plus Mackie (albeit a FA who takes johnson's old man spot for a year before moving to development coaching role) in exchange for hopper and Smith (both out of contract).
If we retain Kelly it wont be on the big numbers other clubs are offering and Mackie wont get a game and has no trade value. Those 2 picks would be about the worth of one of the players named and its been widely reported Smith doesnt wanna go.

Why should we give them up on the cheap?
Def dont think he has lost any value.

If you have 6 Ferraris but the 6th Ferrari has had some minor mechanical issues and has spent a bit of time in the garage and hasn't shown it's potential then it would lost some value off it's original ticket price.
If that Ferrari was then offered $200,000 p.a. more and was guaranteed more opportunities to get on the track then he would have to carefully consider his future options.
If Kelly stays, he probably goes / if Kelly goes, he probably stays - more cash and opportunities
He's worth about what Marchbank was worth in a trade as was drafted with around the same pick and has played about as much senior footy. A pick in the mid teens sounds about right.

What has that got to do with his value to other teams?
Just because I have 5 Ferrari's doesn't mean you get the 6th cheap because I already have that colour.
The question is his value on the open market, not his value to the giants.
Would be a really good addition for any club that gets him if he does leave, I'd imagine clubs like St Kilda and Carlton would be really interested as well looking at their list needs.SEN saying North, Pies and Bombers among the clubs gunning for Hopper
Pick the Bombers Hops!

Yep, looking forward to it. I'm pretty interested in clubs who have gone down the rebuilding model like St Kilda and Carlton have and what they can do in the trade period this year. Essendon as well could be pretty big players in the trade and FA market and have been rumoured to be interested in JJ and Dusty and as of today Hopper. Going to be pretty exciting to see how it all plays out.We certainly are according to well-informed posters.
It's going to be a fun arms race.
Hoping the emergence of McKenna will reduce our interest in JJ and PittardYep, looking forward to it. Agree, in a technical sense you are right, but not always the case - eg. Johnson was actually UFA but the free agency transfer window shut and then GWS and Geelong had to trade a fifth round pick. But yes, in most normal cases, I agree that trades aren't required for UFA's. And yes, I could have drafted my post better - my point was that GWS would net two picks and a player from cats, in exchange for two, that's all.No one trades for unrestricted free agents.
You need a little something else on that half back flank losing hibberd hurts.Hoping the emergence of McKenna will reduce our interest in JJ and Pittard
Would love Hopper.
Howlett, Watson, Myers and Goddard will eventually need replacing in our midfield
Parish, Hopper, Laverde and Langford in those roles to pair with Heppell, Merrett, Zaka & Colyer is a strong set up.
Yeah agree. Improving the inside midfield stocks at Essendon is a more pressing need.Hoping the emergence of McKenna will reduce our interest in JJ and Pittard

I think McKenna is that player. You need a little something else on that half back flank losing hibberd hurts.
