Stringer fair enough, but there would be quite a few ahead of Libba surely... Bont, JJ, Wood, Macrae, Dalhaus to name a few?
Stringers definately worth a first but I don't think Libba is..

We actually havent traded in a big name recruit for ages. Goddard was but he was a FA.

So its probably unfair to say that Dodoro wont offer much, as he hasnt had much exposed form in offering trade packages.

I'll cop that He has driven a hard bargain with players who want to leave but so do all clubs.

Look at what Collingwood did it with Beams and Cloke, while Gold Coast do it as well.
Hell sydney didnt let okeefe go at all to the hawks back in 09 and they are well regarded as fair traders.

Agree to differ. Libba form drop off is one of the biggest reasons for our drop off in form this year IMO.

Led the whole comp in clearances in 2014 and missed 2015 with a knee. Did syndesmosis in 2016 while coming back from a knee. Still was pantsing Danger prior to his ankle. Hungover in 2017. Beautiful kick and hands. At his peak far better ball user than Dahl and Macrae. I might overrate him, but IMO it's incredibly rare to have excellent ball users who tackle heaps and win clearances.

If all Dogs fit and firing, I have Libba as our third best behind Bont and Stringer.

There's a huge flaw in Jake's game which Dermie (of all people) exposed multiple times in commentary this year - he won't crash packs.

He'll fly for the high ball, attempt unrealistic speccies (and almost never take them) but a FF in the era of double-teaming and zoning has to be prepared to compete in the air just to bring the ball to ground, and Stringer simply won't do it.

He actually played a dominant game against St Kilda this year as a lone forward, but it's the exception rather than the rule for Jake.
It was summed up earlier in this thread - he icing - bloody good icing - but he's not the cake you build your forward line around.

He wouldn't be suited to our forward set-up. We rely on Brown/Waite/Wood to crash the pack to mark or set up the small forwards quite often. If he could be converted to a midfielder, I would pay north's first if we don't get Kelly.

Not sure what I'd give up to be honest.
Really hard to gauge his value after his 2017 season.
At his best he was an excellent inside mid.
Essendon aren't known for paying overs to get a deal done quickly either.

So two best 22 contracted players under the age of 25 with best and fairest and AA selections under their belts for a pick around the 10 mark, a pick in the 30s and a guy who can't get a regular game in a side that just scraped into the finals.

I actually think he'd be perfect as Brown / Waite would fulfill that role well, leaving Stringer on the 3rd or 4th defender where he dominates.

He's worth 1-2 wins per season based on his own freakish ability, but any club that gets him will have to be prepared to take the good with the bad.

He's not. And that's why I didn't say anything about Stringer being a former AA selection. Those are legitimate runs on the board.

But there's no point talking about a player's draft position five years later. The fact Stringer went at #5 doesn't increase his trade value today. Nor does the fact Toumpas went at #4.

Factoring in the obvious off-field issues with Libba and being dropped to VFL level playing 18 games at Senior level this year.

And Jake Stringer being AA 2 years ago and clearly hasn't regained that form due to off-field problems/injuries etc and now the club and Stringer willing to part ways? (or so it's been reported as that is why this thread was created)

Not sure what you're expecting when players and the club don't see eye to eye and think it's best if both are moved on?
