At their best in their career so far? I'd say Bartel. His years in 07/08 were awesome, and was the second best midfielder behind Ablett imo

In their absolute best form I think Hodge has a bigger impact on a game.

Bartel has been more consistent over his career and is the better player.

Hodge can lift the Hawks, and has... many times... but Bartel just never, ever fails.
How often is he the guy who steps up at the crucial moment? Saving mark/tackle/last clearance/goal (point :D ) at the death

Hard to choose at peak form, but Bartel hits the peak so much more often.

Lies. This thread is full of lies.

Hodge = 3xAA ( including 1xAA captain ), Bartel = 2xAA. That signals to me Hodge has hit his "peak" more, hey Doris

Hodge 2xB&Fs, Bartel = zip.

Hodge = Norm Smith, Bartel = Brownlow.

On individual accolades, Hodge is ahead easily. In the real world ( I showed this thread to some football journos and they thought it was a pisstake because Hodge is clearly a class or two above ), Hodge wins easily. In Bigfooty world, Bartel wins. Funny stuff.

In the real world - and I mean the actual real world, not "what my mates think" - I can remember Bartel tipping a couple of Hawks/Cats games in their favour; since the 08 GF he's comfortably won the head-to-head.

It's a very near thing on any measure.

Yup basing it on 2 games, instead of the bigger picture. He's won the head to head since 2008 with Hodge since 2008 has he? Hodge has won an AA since then, been AA captain, finished 2nd in the MVP and won a B&F. Bartel has achieved no individual accolade. No AAs, No B&Fs, nothing.

Bartel had two super seasons when Geelong were at their very best in 2007 & 2008, and has not done much since. Been solid and that's it, hence no AAs, B&Fs or anything of that nature.

Brownlow = 22 games, Norm Smith = 1 game.
Bartel had ABlett, Corey, Selwood, Enright and Kelly to contend with for b&f whereas Hodge had Mitchell.

Mitchell & Franklin. Correct. Bartel has been surrounded by better players his whole career. Put Luke Hodge in Geelong instead of Bartel and Hodge would probably have 6 All Australians, instead of the 3 he has so far.

I'm quite capable of looking up awards won, etc, by myself... don't really bother me.

Just the 15 tackles for Bartel in the 09 flag, 30 touches in that prelim, 3 goals in the qualifier; and only averaged 32 odd touches in the 2010 finals. Led Hodge for marks, tackles, touches, goals from 05 to 10 as well.

Which is my point: whenever it's needed, he steps up, and does a job, and Geelong win. For the life of me I can't remember more than 3 or 4 bad games from him; altho the 08 flag is a glaring one, that's 3 years ago now.

Hodge might well have been rewarded by more individual honours, but, well, Leon Davis has as many AAs as Bartel, or Dustin Fletcher, and more than Sam Mitchell.... so let's keep things in perspective here.

Bartel is hugely underated and is a great player, IMO just a bit better than Hodge, Hodge has also been played running out of defence which is far easier to get an AA spot than the midfield
Not taking any credit away from hodge though

In 2 out of 3 Hodges AA years, he was a midfielder. Last year when he was named AA captain, won our B&F, was voted the 2nd best player in the whole comp by the players and finished 2nd in nearly every player of the year award, he was a midfielder. Played the whole year in the middle.

If I had to choose I'd learn towards Hodge in a 0.5001 to Bartel 0.4999

Flip of the coin really, I voted as equally good

And with that we can safely write off your opinions on the subject. Thanks for coming, try and watch some games with both eyes open once in a while.

Bartel is a clutch player, does absolute everything to a high level, and does it consistently.

Both of them are player's players.

I voted Hodge (perhaps because I have seen more of him, instead of Bartel), and obviously rate him hugely.

Jimmy is a super star who i would love to have running around at the Hawks.

so, i can totally understand why Cats would be just tipping it to Jimmy and why Hawks to Luke...
