Despite being beaten in the ruck by a bigger man in Cox. I thought Justin's around the ground work was excellent. I really think he should have rucked the majority of the game. In fact i really think he should ruck the majority of all our games. Which leaves Sandilands in an unusal position. Because Sandilands is fairly useless as a forward at this stage in his career. (I think in a couple years he will be an unstoppable entity - will surpass Justin as our number 1 ruckman. Which is great cause Justin is a very capable forward)

But at this stage i think Sandilands should be playing WAFL games. Unless we play a team like Port Adelaide who have a number of ruckman. Sandilands Rucks for approximately half of each quarter. Quelling Justin's influence on the game.

The West Coast game really turned for us early in the 3rd quarter when Justin wasn't on the ball. Sandilands did his best ruck work late in the 1st and 2nd quarters. Justin started each quarter and Sandilands finished them. Why CC changed this for the 3rd im not sure. It was obvious that the eagles were going to come out firing after half time. Would of been better to put our most mobile ruckman in the middle at this stage.

I agree with you about Sandilands... Sorry to all his fans, but I have to wonder why he keeps getting a game. He is the biggest player in the game, good, but what value is this when he cannot jump, cannot take an overhead mark and all of his taps are so predictable that he cannot direct them to our midfield?

Too often last night when Sandilands was rucking it looked as though Judd he was directing his taps to Judd's feet.

J Lo is a good player and is more than capable of rucking a whole game by himself. Having said that, if J Lo injures himself we are gone for the season.

I agree on Sandliands. He is just not there yet, he can't take an overhead mark under any sort of pressure and really lacks the confidence to actually kick the ball. Though he kicked a goal last night, once the ball hits the ground in the forward line, he is a liability. His ruck work is good at times and when your winning the majority of taps you are more than likely to give it over to the opposition some of the time.

I'm happy with his progression over the last few years, but at the moment he is probably a year or two short of becoming a complete ruckman. He has to learn to trust his kicking and not become so one dimensional with the handball every time he gets the ball.

He needs more time to develop and with our current lack of ruckmen in the squad, that development needs to be gained at AFL level rather than in the WAFL. 211 will come good, don't you worry about that.

First half I thought Sandi was good/ok. Don't blame Sandi for our clearance problems. Its our midfielders who got a spanking.

I'm not blaming him for our ruck problems. In fact, I've been wondering why he's still getting a game for quite some time well before last nights game.

What you say is true, our midfielders got a bath in the stoppages, particularly in the second half. But we looked much better last night, and during the season, when Longmuir has been rucking for us. I honestly can't see what value Sandilands provides to the team when he doesn't a) belt the thing forward 20+ metres, or b) take overhead marks against smaller opponents. To make matters worse, his kicking obviously isn't the best.

Hopefully he will prove me wrong.

I would think we won a greater % of clearances when Sandi was in the ruck than JLo. JLo didn't seem to have that spring in his step, which is understandable after carrying the team last week, though his work around the ground was good. JLo is currently our best option in the ruck and at FF but without support he'll be burnt out by round 12. Sandi needs to continue to play because we don't have any other real options. Warren and Johnson will run in and give a contest but they'll never be elite ruckmen at the highest level. Spider Burton was in his late 20's and at his 3rd club before he became a very good ruckman. We need to be patient with Sandi. His tapwork is ok, his kicking is under rated but his marking certainly needs work.

If Hadrill doesn't return next week I think Warren should play, to counter a tall tigers forward line and give us the option to move McPharlin/Polak forward. And I'd be happy to see him have a stint in the ruck, but Sandi should remain in the 22.

M.Johnson kicked 4 goals yesterday in the WAFL. Is capable of holding down ruck duties for 5 mins of each quarter as well i suspect. Give him a game. Yesterday Medhurst at full forward for a whole game didn't work. It wasn't the delivery, its the size of the target.

A forward line with at least 3 talls needs to be employed. I really like to see Pav lead to the flank and kick to either Medhurst, Johnson, Murphy. It sounds pretty potent. We need options up forward. We were so predictable yesterday...Midfield to Pav..Pav to Medhurst. Then either of the following: Medhurst spills mark, Chick spoils, Pass goes over Medhursts head, pass falls short.

Easy target as he is so big.

Stats
J Lo 14 possesions 7 marks 1 tackle 6 hitouts 1 goal 3ff 3fa 4 dropped marks
211 10 possies 5 marks 1 tackle 17 hitouts 1 goal 2ff 1fa 1 dropped mark

Considering JLo had a lot more ground time there is not a lot in it.

I will conceed that 211 is having trouble at the Centre bounces with the new rule but is still more effective at the ball ups and throw ins.

I agree rgauci. Johnson or Warren in time will fill this posi. But for next week IMO ;
OUT: McManus and Sandi
IN: Haddrill and Murphy.

An extra tall would have certainly given us more options last night, and would have given them less oppurtunity to rotate players on Pavlich. We could have really exposed them down back because Pav had the better of Glass and Staker's crap.

Although Medhurst isn't the biggest bloke running around a kick between his eyes and his ankles would have resulted in a shot for goal, because he was a step infront of Chick all night. Guys playing at the highest level should be able hit a 5 foot target area in good conditions. The kicking from both sides was poor but theirs improved in the second half.

Not quite sure if I agree, with playing 211 we restrict ourselves with mobile talls, I'm sure that was the reason Murphy did not play. Last week they used Murphy as a backup ruckman a position he has never played. Johnson is a better option than 211 at the moment as he can play key position as well as in the ruck.

Murphy will play in the WAFL next week has had 30 minutes of game time in 3 weeks. Stupid ducks and drakes by Freo if Murphy wasn't playing this week he should have played in the WAFL.

Fair point undertaker, I guess he is now lacking game time and probably needs a good hit out.

On another point,

There seems to be a lot of comments about the delivery to Medhust last night.
Up the end I was sitting it was perfect. He dropped two simple chest marks unopposed and the couple of times he actually did mark it, he missed simple shots on goal.
I feel the coaching staff put a lot of responsibility on Medhurst by isolating him at FF, and the fact that he lead Chick to the ball almost every time, I think the coaching staff were spot on and it would of been a good move had Medhurst not let them, himself and his team down by stuffing up the most basic of skills!

Give him a game? you're joking, he would be Fremantles equivalent of WCE's McDud. Same WAFL Club, similar size and similar weaknesses!
