I think others are more likely to lose their seats than he is.
The reason why so many conservatives are risking their careers to stand in Liberal blue-ribbon seats is that they've seen a party where their vote would normally have gone be taken over by the extreme right who have no social conscience, no decency, who treat women with disdain, are deceitful, and where truth no longer matters. In addition, Fraudo hasn't endeared himself with his constant belittling of his home state and, of course, he's a clueless treasurer beholden to his corporate masters. He's not safe which is why he's attempting to undermine peeps like Dr Ryan and Zoe Daniel.

Dr Monique Ryan has just been announced as Kooyong’s Independent Candidate for the 2022 Federal Election. As Director of the Neurology Department of The Royal Children’s Hospital Dr Monique Ryan is a highly qualified, respected and accomplished professional, and a Kooyong local.

Dr Alan Baxter

virginia trioli has interviewed a few independents in the last week or so (someone from kooyong this morning ..... one from flinders last week) .... question on preferences was asked - they claimed they werent going to preference anyone ...... which raises the question, are they a genuine independent or running interference for the lnp?

Judging by the reaction from Tim Wilson, Dave Sharma and Jason Falinski it's a real threat to them. Unless they're playing up the danger for this reason.

Preferencing Labor would be used to attack in these seats. Some people in these seats don't like the Liberals but many would never vote Labor. Independents need to appear genuinely independent and keep it somewhat ambiguous who they would support.

Think you'll find overwhelming they are disenchanted conservatives. Peeps who see the corruption, lies and shift to the extreme right and are so concerned they are leaving positions of significance to say enough.

They are running to win and to do that they must come first or second so their preferences are irrelevant.

The preferences they garner aren't though.

rusted ons like me need to know which Indy to put second..after ALP

(they have to be a live chance still)

Monique Ryan says she isn't directing preferences and if she came second then her preferences wont be counted and Oliver Yates preferences flowed to Frydenberg.

The wildcard is the Greens because they came second in 2019 but how much of their vote was for Julian Burnside and against a poor ALP campaign. But this will all be for nothing if Frydenberg maintains his primary vote in the high 40s.

She has said she's politically naive. If she or her minders don't put time into preference deals they/she is courting danger, cos the Libs sure as day follows night will. They are already attempting to shore up the Jewish vote with falsehoods about Labor. So there must be concerns in the inner sanctum about the Treasurer who has blown out our debt to record levels and who has shown himself to be anti Victorian.

I reckon Danby would have to be one of the longest-serving members from Vic and he was Jewish so it would take some really dirty politics for that to fly.

Anyhoo, if Dr. Ryan polls in the top two and the counting is close not having done some preference deals will cost her.

This makes zero sense.

Under the current AEC rules, you have to number EVERY BOX (except the last because it's assumed it's the final number of every other box is correctly numbered)

This is why the greens have the split HTV cards, one preferencing Labor, one preferencing liberal.

A big percentage already become ineligible because they only tick one box. Saying you are not preferencing risks making this even bigger.

* Fwiw I'm in favour of ballots where you can stop numbering at a point of your choosing (and your ballot is eliminated then at that point), but this is the rule we have to work under.

And just imo, with two strong Indi's in Kooyong, they must first preference each other at a minimum, to maximize the chances of a teal independent winning (which is what I assume their goal is).

Frydenberg is the #1 example of this. In any other life with his level of talent and charisma, he'd be a bad middle/lower manager at an insurance company or call centre. But he's from old-money and has strong financial backing through family connections. So he's Treasurer of the country, sending the place broke.
I wouldn't say he's from Old Money (his mothers side were refugees and his father emigrated from Poland post-war) but his Parents and Grand Parents definitely did all the work in setting him up. He's First Generation useless rich kid.
