CARLTON skipper Chris Judd says he probably won't talk to likely Greater Western Sydney target Marc Murphy about staying with the Blues.

"It's not my place to comment or put pressure publicly on individual players and their contracts," Judd said.

"That's actually things for them to work out with the club."

Shouldnt he be pushing Murphy to stay or at least advocating it!?

He's absolutely right.

We all want Murph to stay. The supporters, the admin, the players - everyone. But it is inappropriate for some to broach the topic of contracts and money with others.

Judd and the rest of the playing group, whilst they may feel strongly about Murph staying, have no place in the negotiation of his contract. That's for Murph, his management and the club to work out. It is noone else's business.

Perfectly played by Judd.

Players are professional these days and will make professional decisions.

Judd will have a big influence in whether Murphy stays, but it won't be what he says to Murphy that will make a difference, it will be what he offers. Playing and training and learning with Judd will be a pulling point as much as GWS money will be a pushing point.

Im torn on this one.

The fact is he could already have agreed to be a GWS player by now. But i'm not so sure. To my way of thinking, there just are no push factors for Murph to go to GWS other than money. And even in this professional era i don't think that is enough to make someone in Murphy's position leave when all circumstances are considered.

There is no go home factor, there is no family factor, there is no Carlton issue with Murphy factor, there is no Coach issue factor, there is no Carlton positional Ladder factor (we are not sliding or under achieving - we are ripe for success).

So even though there is a fair to even chance he might already be gone or going, on all probability i reckon he is 75/25 to stay a Blue.

You guys probably don't follow any American sports, yet in the off-season I much prefer American sports to the blandness of English soccer and rugby. Our media here is so driven in supporting English soccer (& the EPL) updates come up on every news broadcast, but in America an amazing thing happened yesterday which obviously went unreported here as it didn't involve Arsenal or some other english soccer team....

Cliff Lee knocked back over 16 million extra on offer from the New York Yankees, (this is baseball I am talking about) and instead went to his preferred club of the Philadelphia Phillies. It is startling for someone to knock back so much more money.....especially when it is 16 mill...but he loves the Phillies so he went Phillies.

But what has that got to do with Murph? Well sometimes people make courageous decisions based on factors other than money..............I personally think Murph will go to GWS as the money they will offer is more- much more- and Sheeds would love to stick the boot into the Blues at the same time. Let's face fact- the competition is compromised and at least 90% of the time money talks, but sometimes character wins out and people value things more than money. I guess we have to hope Murph is in that 10% bracket.

Maybe Judd is easy on him because Judd himself switched clubs for money?
You'd think an Essendon supporter of all people would know not to take any notice of what some people say in the media. It's how you built your entire coaching panel.

Judd wanted to come home.

Ahh, my bad.

Still, who's to say Judd is against switching clubs for money? I'm pretty sure when he was switching over, he didn't want people meddling into his reasons for doing so.

You'd think since he's been through this sort of thing, he would react differently. Whether for money, or family, you're still switching clubs for your own reason and no one else's.

I think it's pretty reasonable to see that money is one of the major factors for players switching clubs in the modern game, (if not the biggest).

Heck, even I know some of our own aren't safe. Sheedy is a sneaky, but cunning man. Give him money, and you've got the unpredictable. It's like letting a monkey near a handgun.

Exactly this, what can he say to Murph! follow my lead. i want you to be a one club player like myself!
Judd could say "Think about winning a flag and a Norm Smith medal instead of becoming a two club player who left for money and a flag".

That's the sort of advice Luke Ball could never give to Murphy after he put a price on his head to get to the Pies.

Ball didn't stick fat with his original club after they lost the 2009 flag by two kicks.

Murph is a top kid, true blue and wants to stay, but... how can i put this obliquely...ahh yes I've got it

David Cloke was not the only "Damir" at Carlton. Think about that!!

Thankfully Judd is as intelligent as he is professional, if he'd said anything at all about this particular contract negotiation and intimated that he had advised or put pressure on Murph to stay, the article would have been full of comparisons to his own situation. It would also have fed all of the slavering masses that would like nothing better than to trot out the inevitable comparisons already presented by 2 opposition trolls in this very thread.

Instead, he plays a straight bat and leaves the reporters with no more than "nothing to see here ... move along".

Hey now, no need to be like that. I never said I couldn't stand to be corrected.
I know exactly what you were doing and I've seen the crap you write about Carlton on other boards. As I said an Essendon supporter of all people should know not to take any notice of what's said to the media, if they're pretending to do the opposite by now then it's obvious what you're here for.

The expection is that as captain Judd will talk to Murphy.

leaving it to the club is not good enough

we all know what your intentions were

Oh look a little bummer girl trolling our boards ..now every man and his dog know the reason Judd left the weagles ...even a prepube pimply faced girl like yourself knows the reason ....but lets talk about how Hird and thompson got to be coaches at bummerland ..and how the bummers have been kicked out of their spiritual home by a bowling club ...oh and then we can talk about the bummers ever getting off the bottom of the ladder with such a crap list .
