Thought on Saturday that Jack Riewoldt returned to the confident, risk taking extrovert that we know and love.
He has been playing timid this year. Perhaps not backing himself. Certainly the delivery helped him this week more so than others and the quality of opposition was extremely poor.
If he plays four of those types of games each year and can work hard on bridging the gap between his worst and best, he will be a very good long term player.

Yup, Riewoldt has had a bad start to the year and really needed a solid game and was in my top 3. 18 possies, 14 marks, 2 tackles and 3 goals, great effort especially with Richo going down. Is probably the most impressive 20 year old key forward in the competition.

From Rounds 1-4 I think Jack was a victim of our midfield and defence slowing our ball movement forward; therefore, playing in a congested forward line. The fact that King and Hislop are out has removed most of our skill errors from defence and Cogs in the middle has meant more midfield clearances. Do we play him FF or CHF from now on? We do need that extra forward. Either that is Putt, Post or Hughes we'll find out soon

yep good call tugg, Id like to think that he could play more than 4 good games in the next 17 rounds though:confused:...should be aiming for a 40g+ season

I thought his game on Saturday was exceptional. It was more than just good. He can't play like that every week. I don't think it's unrealistic for him to play four games like that each year and maybe one or two that are even better. What he has to work on now, is being a contributor each week. At the moment his worst is pretty bad. The high marks and the goals are not going to come easy every week. He now needs to set himself a target of, say, 12 touches and six tackles on his worst day.

Future captain ...

his start to the season has mirrored everyones hence our results , very important player .

Loved the way he authoritively finished his work off in the second quarter , oozed leadership ....

Im a bit biased in my opinion I know but I think he is the goods. I was watching as closely as you can on tv to see how he would go 1x1 with Hansen who was much more highly touted in the same draft and he won that pretty comfortably I thought. Still has to address his kicking for goal in the early stages of a game. He does OK once he is settled but looks very nervous early and produces some real crap as a consequence when his field kicking is almost always excellent off either side. A confidence thing I know but this year we need him to take another step. He will improve when we develop another target too.

Just have to be patient with "Jumpin Jack"

Not going to tear it apart every week at this stage, but absolutely has the goods to be a very good player. Hope he can carry it on to this week's match:thumbsu:

Love Jack but he does need to work on his set shots. He holds the ball on an angle so that the top of it points over his right shoulder and the bottom at his left foot. That, combined with his high ball drop means too much can go wrong, especially when he hook-stabs at them.

That said, there is everything else to like about him. Natural footballer, fantastic attitude, team player etc. I have the confidence that he will do what's necessary to correct any deficiencies. The development of power, strength, speed and endurance should see him become a major headache for oppositions and an even firmer fan favourite than he already is.

His workrate reminds me of young Mathew Richardson. Doesn't have great pace but he works really hard up the ground to get marks. He was taking marks up on the wing of 60m leads the other night. We have one young key foward and hopefully between Post, Gourids, Vickery and Putt we can find one more (I think Hughes might be gawn just quietly - no 4th year player should be playing Coburg 2nd's)

Agree with you emp, but can't be a 'ghost' he has been in some games this year. Needs some consistency, give us something every week, by no means be BOG every game, but put a consistent effort in.

But has the goods, another pre-season will strengthen him and make him match-ready for physical contests.

looks a lot better when he has the forward 50 to himself or at least the square. we should allow him to play one out from the square because he looks pretty good in a one on one sitiuation and knows where to lead for the footy. beautiful mark of the footy thats for sure and has a great leap as evidence by that big leap over the two roos players on the 50.just needs some kicking practice. he dosnt have the most orthodox action but hopefully he can fix that up. when i used to go watch him for clarence he was more than a handy kick so wether its the pressure of afl or wether hes changed his action i dont know. but i think we have found our future full-forward. hopefully he can kick 35+ this season and then keep improving on that year by year.

If Riewoldt can do what he did against North Melbourne in 80% of the games left to play then I say he is something to get ready to witness, his first 4 games were crap IMO but the one against North has shown when he's ready to throw it all in, he's gunna raise alot of hell real quick.

I don't think Jack has been bad for the first four games, he has struggled at times but always presents and shows great confidence.

Will find it tough this week but if he can be serviceable against Bolton maybe get 2-3 goals i would be pleased.
