Ok folks :)
seeing's the other poll thread has turned into a complete annihilation by Tredrea... I saw a heap of Kernahan and I rate him very highly amongst the best centre half forwards of the past 20 or so years.
Where would you rate Tredrea in comparison to Kernahan?

Kernahan:
251 games, 738 goals
5 x All-Australian
2 x Premiership winner
3 x Best & Fairest winner

Tredrea:
255 games, 549 goals
4 x All-Australian
1 x Premiership winner
4 x Best & Fairest winner

Kernahan takes this in a canter IMO, but there's probably going to be a lot voting who never saw Sticks' whole career. Sticks for mine ranks only behind Royce Hart and Carey as far as CHF's go.

If you want a better idea of Kernahan the player, rather than just comparing their AFL careers, you need to consider Kernahan's SANFL record - 136 games, 290 goals, 3 B&F's, Jack Oatey Medal (Norm Smith) also won the Magarey Medal by 9 votes (then a record 44 votes) but ineligible to suspension. The SANFL was a pretty strong comp in the early 80's and if Sticks hadn't shown Glenelg the loyalty he did by hanging off joining the VFL, his AFL record would likely be right up among the very best in league history.

What ices it for mine though is his records in finals, which is one of the best in the modern era. The guy was the epitome of a big game player and only rarely did he not deliver.

85’ Glenelg GF 7 goals Jack Oatly medal (SANFL Norm Smith)
86’ QF win – 11 marks, 5 goals
86’ SF win – 8 marks, 2 goals
86’ GF loss – 5 marks, 2 goals
87’ SF win – 10 disposals 4 marks, 3 goals
87’ GF win – 8 disposals (kicks) 3 goals
88’ QF win – 16 touches, 4 marks, 3.3 goals
88’ SF loss – 4 marks 1 goal
88’ PF loss – 18 touches, 8 marks, 4 goals
93’ QF win – 20 touches, 10 marks, 6.2 goals
93’ SF win – 6 marks, 3.2 goals
93’ GF loss – 17 touches, 10 marks, 7.4 goals
94’ QF loss – 6 marks, 3.2 goals
94’ SF loss – 18 touches, 12 marks, 2.1 goals
95’QF win – 14 touches, 4 marks, 5.3 goals
95’ PF win - 16 touches, 9 marks, 3.5 goals
95’ GF win – 17 touches, 8 marks, 5.1
96’ QF loss – 8 touches 2.1 goals
96’ SF loss – 15 touches, 10 marks, 6.1 goals

Don't know why, but he seems to get chronically underrated by many pundits, but if you talk to those who played against him you quickly clue in to how highly rated he is in the industry.

well obviously Kernahan gets the chocolates. Tredders stats look great on paper still but i just wonder what esteem he would be held in by the general public if his body didnt fail him so badly in the last few years of his career

How many people outside of SA do you think sat down to watch every Port Adelaide game on the weekend?

Two of the most underrated CHF's going up against each other here. Will be interesting. Everyone will have their own biases affecting their vote.

How many people outside of SA do you think sat down to watch every Port Adelaide game on the weekend?

Do you think that equates to having never seen a bloke play? Or having not followed footy at all in a player's era?

I'd say a far greater percentage of voters would have seen more of Tredrea live and on TV on a p/game basis than Sticks, not to mention game highlights and being exposed to "expert" discussions on the players and so on.

I don't know if Tredders is that underrated. AFAIK he's rightly ranked up there with Riewoldt as the best CHF of his era. I knew the first time I saw him live that he was going to be a player. Kicked a big bag against us and took over a dozen marks.

Everyone can have their own biases, but I think when a bloke who calls himself King Tredrea says "well obviously Kernahan gets the chocolates" it's kinda telling. I'd seriously have to have a second look at anyone who saw these guys whole careers and then voted Tredrea. It's a no-brainer poll tbh. How many players kick 7 goals in two GF's over their career? Answer - only the special ones ;)

Kernahan, but it's closer than MK is trying to make it out to be.

These are two different things. One player can be clearly better than another without there being too much between them. I never suggested there was >>> then daylight between Kernahan and Tredrea, just that it's a very clear gap.

I've offered up fair reasoning and stats, so I suggest rather than blah blahing about it, if anyone disagrees, they can tackle the reasoning, rather than the poster. Not gopower's forte though I'm afraid.

Silly me, I started talking to Monkey King about Carlton players again. Never a good idea.

Why play the man?

But you're right. Don't bother replying to my posts. I addressed your questions. I gave kudos to Tredders for being the best of his era. I posed a very reasonable question ... how many players kick 7 goals in two GF's over their career? And all you've got in response is this clap-trap. I can't be ****ed with your sooky irrational responses dude, so next time follow your instinct and just don't.
