A good start earlier with Richo kicking goals. Gaspar and Hall double teaming Gehrig. Chaffey holding out Del santo. Knobel beating ackland. Brown and Coughlan playing like they did last week and us scoring more than them. :D

This one is going to depend on the midfield, who ever wins it out of the midfield will win the game.
Our boys were able to run over the Fremantle midfield who are argued by some as the best midfield in the competition, fairly valid assumption IMO.
Bell, Schammer, Black, Carr, Hasleby etc.
I believe our boys in the middle can over run St Kilda's but unsure whether they will. To be honest they have two danger men, Ball and Dal Santo, these two could inflict alot of damage to our side's ability to win, lets hope a fair Coughlan bump leaves one of them concussed. :D

My 1000th post and I just want to say this...

GO TIGERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

In other news ;) St.Kilda's list is far more talented to our's on paper. But in all honesty, you can only play with what you have. On some days ability counts for very little when you have confidence and form.

I have been very proud of our boys this year. They have played with spirit, guts, determination and are starting (hopefuly) to prove many people wrong this year. Our tackling and pressure has been first rate and all the one %ers have also been great to see.

Our defence has looked rock solid so far this year and our midfield seems as though they have improved with every game this season (including Wiz cup). One player who has stood up this and become one of our most important players is Chrissy Newman. He has had the job each week on the most dangerous small fowards this year (Abblett, M.Williams?, Brad Johnson and Medhurst) and has beating all of them which are great feathers in his cap. He'll look to get the job on Milne this week and will be a very important match-up.

I think Terry Wallace is right where he has stated this week that it will come down to a shoot-out. We do have some quality up foward in this team, to match the quality fowards of the Saints.

I really hope we can keep up this intensity and pressure which we have found in the last 3 games and take it right up to the saints.
I can't say I expect us to win, but I do expect a quality game with some of the finest youngsters on show.

Cheers!

Please don't call him "Chrissy", that is one of my pet hates, Dermott does it all the time and it gives me the trots.

Luke Ball getting injured

Cogs has giving Hasbley and Cooney a bath in the last 2 weeks.

Luke Ball is another kettle of fish. Very fine player.

I was just wondering, Chaffey is a player who runs off the opponent from the backline, (does he still do that role), giving you guys some run from the backline, seriously you can not let Dal santo get 5 seconds by himself

Wallce is using Chaffey as a tagger this year. Doing a decent job without showing anything special.

The thing is, with all the quality players in Freo's midfield, its not that fast
Geelong exposed us in the middle with pace, StKilda definitely has the players to do the same thing.
Certainly hope you're right though

Our midfield lacks pace IMO.
Dal Santo - one of the slowest in the league
Harvs - old (However what these two lack in pace they make up in evasive skill)
Ball - not slow, quicker than ave though.
Hayes - Fairly quick
Fiora - very quick

I think we lacked that really super quick midfielder until we got fiora but the Clarkes can be added to that as well.

I think the major key will be who rocks up to play, the G-train or Richo and also if gasper or hudghton are on their games.
i agree however i can see them both kicking 7 goals in this sort of game so it could depend on who else scores around them

to have any chance at all, we have to win the hard ball and beat them in the clearances...if they're taking the ball away more often then not, we'll get flogged

Oh well, you're screwed then ;)

I think the key to winning this match is to cut out Dal Santo. Very, very damaging when he gets it. Hopefully Cogs will be able to keep up the good form and do the job.

Brown also will have to beat the Baker tag, and have a rip roaring, bloody dam good game.

Chaffey couldn't hold out a 2 year old ankle biter from punching him in the nuts. :D

My midfield matchups

Cogs v Ball

Hyde v Harvey

Jackson v Hayes

Brown v Baker

Chaffey v Dal Santo

Tuck v X.Clark

Play Jackson in the middle and Chaffey on a forward flank when these 2 players get a run on the ground. If we don't at least break even with all St Kilda midfeilders, then they will get most of the centre breaks, then game over. Chaffey will get brushed aside in the middle like he did against Geelong and that gave them the midfield advantage. Play Jackson when either Coughlan, Hyde or Tuck are resting. I think Deledio and Brown would be handy for 5 minutes a quarter in the middle just to replace resting midfielders. Coughlan, Hyde and Tuck to start each quarter in the middle and play the first 20 minutes before being rested at various stages. I'm sure Brown, Deledio and Jackson would be handy 5 minute replacements and they would have the legs to do it as they would be either coming off the forward line or the bench which is less taxing than coming off defence or a wing.

You'll find that both the clarkes will play off the half back line.

Last time we met did Jackson play on Hamill?

No, it probably would have been Zantuck who always got Hamill.

In the Wizard Wok game, Jackson lined up on Tarrant and was well beaten. Still, a big ask for an 18 year old with only 6 games experience lining up on one of the slipperiest forwards in the competition.
