I'm only just catching up on this guns at the MCG news.
I had no idea Dane Swan and Alan Didak's mates still followed Collingwood so closely

Just seemed completely random today. Three of us went, no bags or the like... two waved through after standing in the queue for 10-15 minute and one picked out for further investigation.

Evolve AI blaming human error. Who do we expect Hal to blame anyway.
Or is it human error blaming human error. If human error is in fact blaming human error, they are likely in error, being human, so it may well be Evolve AI after all.

Pathetic. The afl and mcg wants people to attend games then treats them like this? Moronic.
They don't - they want people glued to their cash cows Channel 7 and Foxtel.

And this is what happens when you rely on AI. It can be intelligent in certain circumstances, but in others it's ****ing useless. The glorious AI fails, and now we have a knee-jerk reaction. So every male walking into the footy is supposed to get wanded?

What's the point of carrying a gun in public in Australia anyway? If you're armed because you want to attack someone, you're a crim and everyone will witness your crime. If you're carrying it for self-defence, even if it ends up being effective (a big if), you'll still get done for carrying an offensive weapon (and possibly murder if you're attacked with non-lethal force and you respond with lethal force).

lol only in Melbourne and at the “home of football” in the supposed sporting capital of the world are punters bringing loaded weapons into a game .

Melbournians love to talk a big game about how “great “ their city and state is but the reality is so often so much different.

Huge overreaction. I'd think that in any game with 80,000 people, there'd be at least 10 people carrying a firearm who shouldn't be.
Yep. And really ..it’s really just for private protection after all. Doesn’t mean they’re gangsters.

You don’t even need bullets. Just point said firearm towards the antagonist and crisis averted.

It’s just common sense.

You’ve never been to Melbourne ..let alone lived there for the last 30 years ..so you know absolutely nothing remotely what you’re talking about.

Just stick to anything west of Swan Valley ..disregard the rest of the country..and refrain from commenting about lands that are not your domain.

Sounds like you've got a bit of a chip on your shoulder.

I'm not sure what the go with security was yesterday. We got there at about 3pm and with the massive lines I thought I might as well buy an HSP and eat it while in the queue. I ended up having to scarf it down because the line moved faster than expected and I was waved straight through without being asked to open my backpack or wanded. Unless the detector we each passed through was a new amazing piece of technology that not even the airports have (considering all the metal I had on me like keys, coins, aluminium can), then I feel like from a safety perspective, security was actually the worst I've experienced at a professional sporting event in this country.

I believe the new scanners do give a body outline and show individual items, but this has been in place at airports for ages anyway. You can see the scans of bags at most security points - and see the guys checking each one, and then if anything is unclear they get you to open it. New versions are just a higher tech version.

But security has always been part technical, part theatre. The wands are as much about checking your behaviour and reminding you of security measures as they are actually finding stuff

I remember reading a chopper Read book where he was at an AFL game with an underworld fella. He had his gun and his mate was going to give him a payment if he put a bullet into Warwick capper. Probably BS but who knows.

And we should ban cars because blah blah.

The AFL screwed up and now overreacted and it affects fans.

Why shut down all the gates bar 2? Is this them admitting only a couple of the gates even have the technology ?
So you don’t think people concealing loaded firearms at a major event is anything to worry about.

If you’re concealed carrying a loaded firearm in Melbourne, you’re a gangster, or a wannabe gangster.

There are some dumb opinions on here, but, and it’s not surprising given it’s you, this is the dumbest one

Of course it is. Do you think this was the one and only time anyone has ever taken a gun to the football? Or knife or brass knuckles or .... ?

In 2 weeks the heavy-handed security will tone down again. So why even bother for 2 weeks other than appearing to be doing something?

Um no….but apparently I heard the scanners picked them up as an anomaly and security did SFA. So yeah I would expect better security.
they said their 'mates' created a diversion (scuffle) so they slipped through the 2nd scan because security were focussed on that.
