Cant see us finishing anywhere other than last. Frawley will def walk and we'll get a priority pick as well so picks 1, 2 and 3 look like a possibilty. Would imagine we'd go wright/brayshaw 1 and 2 (if they are considered the standout kpp and mid) and trade out pick 3 to a team looking to get the 2nd most rated kpp.

You gotta love being a Melb supporter, its round 3 and we're already discussing the next draft

clutching at straws now

KM , can give me a kid who you would consider is the toughest , meanest , love a dog fight type to look for this year. Just saying today on our board we really haven't replaced Milburn and Rooke in the tough hardness ..willing to do the nasty etc.
Clem Smith? Attacks the ball like a maniac, plays very much like Byron Pickett and might fall to your first pick on account of his height

They will get 1 after today.
I agree.

Well be nice and may assist in our CEO and Roo's in recommitting for an extra couple of years. Early wish list:-
Peter Wright (VIC - KPF/Ruck)
Angus Brayshaw (VIC – Mid)
Jake Lever (VIC - Def)
Billy Stretch (Melb – SA - F/S)
Not sure who our president is, so Jeff Kennett also.

Looks like blues we'll be bottom 4 so Wright, Goddard levar McKenzie is the start to built a new forward line around

Liam Dawson sounds like the perfect back flanker, which is our main need after a key forward.

Can you tell us more about him and any other half backs which look likely?

Thanks in advance.

Is part of the lions academy so odds on we will take him under the bidding system I would imagine

So you can take him anywhere? e.g Lloyd Perris last year?

Fortunately past incompetence most likely will not be a factor in deciding priority picks. It will likely be based around on field performance - so barring an unforseen change in the Win/loss ratio a priority will likely be granted to the Demons. Based on performance over the past few seasons failure to grant a priority will set a precedent for the future, ie rare as hens teeth. Hot on the heels of GWS and GC concessions priorities will be unpopular. It should also be considered very separately from any compensation under the free agency rules.
Any way GWS look like they have mountains of talent. I looked at their senior list last night - 46 players. Their is a bit of mid type talent on the list not getting a game. They also have plenty of talls up their sleeve waiting to get a game. They will likely not trade up to an early pick unless they offload an existing tall(s) and are desperate to get say a Wright or who ever is favoured for the number one pick. Its early days but they look like doing ok out of the trade that netted them Kelly. Tyson looks good and will get better for the Dees and we hope Salem will turn up trumps.
Who ever finishes last will be hoping there is an absolute standout number one pick like Boyd last year or Murphy in his year. It ups the value of that no.1 pick.

Nah, academy guys are like F/S picks. Perris was a NSW Scholarship kid I believe. Which is a system that has been phased out. Not sure if anyone still has any NSW scholarship kids left that will hit draft age though.

PP's are completely up to the AFL's discretion, so everything will be taken into account and weighed up, including whether you have received a very high compo pick already, if you lose Frawley.

Thats fine but Im thinking someone that thinks Footy should be more like UFC. A talented player that is comfortable in the role of an enforcer. Probably not that many of them these days but someone who enjoys inflicting pain and has the frame to do it.

Has to be Clem Smith. Without question. No guy comes close. The guy is the next Byron Pickett and he plays the game with that same intensity. No guy has more nasty.

If he can clean up his footskills and improve his discilpline then he'll prove a really good get.

Wright, McCartin, Goddard, Durdin. Any and all will be on Carlton's shopping list and if Carlton finish bottom 4 then at least one of the big four can be taken.

Dawson isn't WBD relevant as one of Brisbane's academy boys and similar to Perris as Tigs points out Brisbane can similarly do well and get him for next to nothing.

Jarrod Pickett and Clem Smith can both run off a back flank some without being the main positions. Liam Duggan, Daniel Capiron are probably those top back flank options who could probably be had somewhere in the 2nd round if the draft was tomorrow. Duggan is not a big body but has some real pace. Daniel Caprion is a tall utility who can play some back flank and may intrigue if healthy this season.

Come on Knightmare, surely the Blues can't stuff up another top 10 draft pick, could they ?

From an Essendon point of view. We'll be no doubt looking for a ruck man, a KPF, and inside midfielders. Genuine inside ball winners.

We have stocked up a lot on running flankers in the past 3 drafts without really addressing our inside midfield needs post Jobe (apart from Hep & young Will Hams).

Since we are pretty much out of the top 30 (again. I know we have the 'compensation pick or whatever you call it but some Bombers fans are truly suggesting we nab Jake Long with it o_O) could you give us some names to look out for in the 3rd round onwards for us Essendon supporters.

One guy I'll definitely be keeping an eye on is Dandenong Stingray Tom Lamb after a 6 goal haul in round 1. Oh, and my boy Alex Harnett to.

Hey mate, was wondering if you went to the AIS vs Collingwood reserves game. If so Hammelman was named amongst the best yet I cannot find any stats or comments about his game. If you could give me a rundown on how he played I would greatly appreciate it!

Have been watching every Essendon game and very aware of where the list sits. I'm really enjoying the outside talent on the list. Marty Gleeson as a mid/def I rate very highly, the Merrett boys can also both play.

Essendon would love a shot at young Brayshaw but you'd need a top 3 pick. I'm not seeing this year as the year for onballers and would advise Collingwood/Essendon/Carlton and all other clubs needing more talls to stock up this year with that where the relative quality is.

Jake Long will be interesting to watch this year and hopefully he can finally be unleashed and we can see what he's got.

From the 3rd round onward history suggests you don't get your key forwards there so you're probably looking at mids. Maybe a mature ager. Maybe someone else presents some value and gets passed over who shouldn't. A Christian Petracca may be an example of a potential slider. He's such a big body but he's clearly not a key position player so unless he establishes himself as a full time midfielder this year he could well be available in the third round.

Jack Hayes I also really like and similarly is a relatively undersized key forward who also could slide into the mid draft range. Like Petracca if he can develop a midfield game to go with his dominant marking ability up forward he's a guy who could be a real asset and with team valuing that ability to play positions other than just midfield they're two guys I'd look at if available 3rd round.

Tom Lamb is a good one to mention and he's just such a talent. Deep forward. Up the field. His versatility is such a strength and he can go top 10 if he keeps improving.

Personally the thing I'm looking for this year, perhaps I'm dreaming but in this depth of talls I'm looking for big bodied key forwards with the hands and ground level ability to play on the ball and a tall key forward with the skillset and running game to play on a wing. Whether it happens is another thing entirely but I'm intrigued at the possibility and I see it happening if not this year then certainly some time soon.

I wasn't at the AIS v Collingwood game no. From what I understand Hammelmann as with the majority of the other name talls had a tough day.

Brayshaw, Weller, Lamb, McLaren, Pickett and Dawson from what I can gather were those better players for AIS on the day.

Knighter, has Peter Wright now locked his name to the top draft spot or are there others chomping at the bits?

Also, be interesting to see if there's a Bontempelli and K. Kolodjashnij like bolter this year.

Wright hasn't got top spot wrapped up but he's my choice at this point and I'd assume most would have him in their 1 spot at this point.

There are bolters ever year to varying degrees. We probably won't know exactly who that is until a couple of weeks out from the draft though.

I'm on the Durdin train. But quite happy for him to slide down. :p

Hey KM, great job you do on bigfooty mate!

Do you think Jarrod Picket could be available around our pick or is he pretty much locked for top 5?

And? Your point is?

I haven't said the draft is going to save us. Our recruting over the last 6-7 years says enough. False hopes year after year.

Irrespective, the afl will definetely give Melbourne a priority pick if we keep playing the way we are, whether everyone likes it or not.
