This coming draft will be full of interest. If Carlton finish bottom 3 you can bet they will push Gibbs out the door and get a compensation pick after their first pick. Together with that early second round pick the rebuild may not take that long with some good drafting. Then pick up a good free agent in 2015. Other clubs finishing lower down will be really up in arms if the Demons get one as well if Frawley goes - it really pushes their pick back. And who said its uncompromised this year!! Then of course the Demons will go cap in hand to the AFL for their 'lousy performance' priority on top, and so it goes on and on - its getting more complicated than our taxation system!!!.
Its ironic that the most interesting part of the season for supporters of poorly performing teams is between seasons end and the draft!!

You've got a lot of overage players there RE. Certainly more than is allowed in the Champs.

I think the WA squad would be drawn from the following players give or take a few omissions.

Can someone tell me how Thomas Bennett (EFFC) is fairing so far this year? I have heard he is the Vice Captain of the Colts is that a good or bad thing for someone his age?
And how long is Barone out for?
And whom from EFFC will be pick for State 18s

And? Your point is?

I haven't said the draft is going to save us. Our recruting over the last 6-7 years says enough. False hopes year after year.

Irrespective, the afl will definetely give Melbourne a priority pick if we keep playing the way we are, whether everyone likes it or not.

You don't think there has been an emphasis on draft picks before? Carlton tanked and got early picks where did it get them. To pin you hope on the early picks again is to a degree "insane" because it has failed and failed.

Believe it or not I have a soft spot for Melb , I was one who thought they should have received help last year. Yes here we are , R3 , as you pointed out a Melb supporter focusing on draft picks. Crazy. Id agree you have very good chance of getting the top three picks. Whether you keep all three or trade for some immediate players is another story

It's Melbourne's fault their in the predicament they are in can't see Melbourne get a priority pick. They need better recruiters not priority picks

Yes and no. There is a strong element of self blame but the entry of the new clubs have made it harder to rebuild than it has been for years. The teams without that ability , wether personnel or facilities or whatever have a hard task. The thing is others are doing it , the Dogs for an example.

The need help no doubt. I advocate an assistance package rather than just another priority pick. For a start , a tradable pick like what the GWS used but with the criteria that it must be used to get players 23-26. No more kids , gift wrapped and flushing them. Hope not but Trengove looks to be the latest thats heading down that path.

Hey KM, great job you do on bigfooty mate!

Do you think Jarrod Picket could be available around our pick or is he pretty much locked for top 5?

Not top 5 locked and loaded at all. May go around pick 5. But probably placed around pick 10 on most draft boards I would have thought at this stage. Exceptional talent though and does of the smalls deserve to be one of the first names to come up.

Comments are starting to speed up.

May put in the effort this week and over Easter to get an update in - add more profiles and update my very out of date power rankings.

It's probably not all going to fit in post one so I'll likely need to start a new thread. Will see what happens.

Knightmare, assuming that Collingwood take Darcy Moore with their second pick who do you think we would be looking at?

Moore almost certainly is forced first round if Collingwood want him.

I'd hope 1st and 2nd round if the right talent is available the Pies go tall - specifically tall forwards.

Well Moore is a Tall Forward which is also helps his Case.
I have Moore Written in Pencil, Meaning I be very surprised if we don't Father/Son Him even if it cost us a 1st Round Pick. Though not 100% Certain

maybe should go the tank. Starting this week would be best IMO...

I'm assuming we finish around 8th, which would give us pick 11ish. You have Moore at 42, will clubs below us want him?

Not that it's happening but my preference would be to win the flag or come as close to doing so as possible and get a pick at the very end of the first round and maximise the value that can be had for Moore.

I "had" Moore at 42nd based on what he showed last year.

I now have:
1. Wright
2. McCartin
3. Brayshaw
4. Durdin
5. Moore

Assuming a mid table or better finish Moore at this point looks like a good get. Top 8, top 4. The better we finish the better the relative value.

Well, we better have some Hine specials in the later rounds then! :)

Hine has a Record of Drafting well with late picks and in the Rookie Draft

Has McCartin grown a few centimetres over the break? The KPF's these days nudge 200cm's and not that I expect that he'll make such a spurt but just a few more cm's. I know it sounds like splitting hairs but I find those extra cm's make a big difference.

I have a sneaky feeling he'll be part of the 'Lion Pride' next year.

McCartin is now listed at 193cm.

Same height as Jarryd Roughead so it's hardly too small when you can dominate as McCartin can.

Roughead drafted as 193cm but to me is now taller and would be closer to 196cm.

He's been listed at 193cm ever since he's been at hawthorn, and when him and buddy would stand next to eachother, there would be a noticeable 3-4 centimeter margin.

Hey Knightmare,

I have a couple of questions.

1) How far can you see Lever sliding? Particularly with a couple of F/S picks moving into the first round. He represents some significant value I would have thought.

2) What do you see as Essendon's biggest need and how would you address it with pick #18?

Cheers

Hey KM.
As a Hawks supporter who should I be looking out for this year in your eyes?
Is Dylan Winton and or Tyler Keitel any chance of being available late first round?
Who are some of the better inside mids to keep an eye on?

Cheers

Lever looks a top 10 selection and probably goes in the 5-10 range I'd assume at this point. If he slides past 10 it wouldn't be by very much.

At 18 if a quality tall is available that is the way I'd go. Otherwise best available.

Winton and Keitel should both be available at Hawthorn's first round selection.

It's not a year for inside mids. Brayshaw is the clear standout with Weller probably the next best. After that it's unclear of the on-ballers who else is worth spending an early pick on.

I'd recommend Hawthorn look tall this year with the talls where the value is this year in the first two rounds.

Nice to know I was thinking the same as the very learned and wise man that you are KM ;)
I am of the opinion that the Hawks could/should trade or hit free agency for a 20-22yo up and coming mid and also an established mid.
I read that Tyler Keitel shows great leadership qualities and that is something the Hawks are big on so he'll do me at this very early stage.
Do you see Winton as more of a 3rd tall or taller running type?

Sorry mate...too man posts to read back through them all again to see if you have already been through this.
