I think the smokey in this DRAFT is Lamb wait till combine everyone will freak out his development scale is off the charts

Lamb is one who divides opinion and I'm on that other side of the spectrum. He is one who could go either way. Effort and intent at the contest lacks consistency and is rarely there. Terrible defensive effort and particularly when played back completely lacks awareness about where to be and lacks that footballing IQ. Makes more decisions with the ball at times.

While he has strong first round chances I wouldn't go near him in the first round. He has the talent to prove me wrong, and I hope he does but I prefer others to him certainly in the first and for much of the second round also.

Peter Bampton was interviewed yesterday and said he wouldn't be able to play for another six months. He will slide well into the 30s imo - will be in bargain land.

Bampton is a beauty. I've got him at 11/12 on my draft board and love his game. Has the real hard inside game, aggression, does the work off the ball, has the strength and AFL ready body, endurance is excellent as a guy who gets to every contest and runs a 15+ beep, I also despite what other say like his skillset with his work by hand particularly outstanding but his work by foot also good as an efficient kick who lowers his eyes and knows limitations, consistently making good decisions. I like the lad and would still even with this information be prepaired to pick him first round.

If I was a recruiter there would be little chance of him getting past my second round selection. Like him a lot.

Saw footage of Bampton the other day. Jeez he goes in hard as anyone I've ever seen but his kicking style is very average. Looks like a player from the 80s. Is he worth any more then about pick 40?

Bampton is worth a pick closer to 15 for me. His numbers at SANFL league level cannot be ignored. He has produced to a high level for a couple of years now. He will have no problem taking the next step and playing strong football at AFL level. I see him playing right away at AFL level.

I'd have to review my notes again in that case. Looking at some footage quickly he isn't slow. But overall in watching Geelong Falcons while among their better few players he didn't necessarily strike me as someone I would draft.

In any case I will review my in game notes of him at a later date.

You can safely slot in Declan Hamilton into 47 since it's empty. Adelaide deffinately have him on their radar for a late pick. Marcov or Calab Daniel possibly after that for theirs. Looks solid, top 20 is reasonable.

A rethink of Sean McLaren's draft position might be necessary. At 197cm and mostly playing ruck it's hard to see what he is at the next level. Key defender? It's hard to see him as more than a late/rookie selection.

Touk Miller and Reece McKenzie I also don't expect to see going as high as top 20.

Otherwise a good first effort and not all that far off what I anticipate.

I like McKenzie. I just don't see clubs liking him as much as someone who is in that Cloke way a marking and goal only key forward with clubs looking for guys with more tricks or strings to their bows.

I have settled on Reece more as a 2nd-3rd round selection in terms of where he will go on draft day until I hear a strong rumour suggesting one thing or another.

But if I needed a key forward I would be prepared around pick 20 to pick him. Just so dominant with his contested marking and has the proven dominant performances behind him.

I see a guy with exquisite skills, great vision, an ability to win the ball inside as well as having a turn of foot and a great finisher. What's not to like? I see a guy with exquisite skills, great vision, an ability to win the ball inside as well as having a turn of foot and a great finisher. What's not to like? I reckon in an AFL system, with an AFL ready body, this kid could be a star.

I find Ahern has too many quiet games. Had a big U18 champs and a big second half to that grand final where he worked his way into the game after a quiet first half but he has also had his 10 disposal games this year and too many of those low production games which doesn't give me enough confidence personally to select him inside the first round with others better performed and projecting as more solid pros.

Ahern can become better than this but I generally consider with him becoming roughly Shane Edwards to be a good outcome.

I haven't seen much of the TAC cup, just from reading on here though, I assumed that Viojo-Rainbow would be drafted. It seems you agree with me. I liked what I saw of him when he as on TAC future stars. Really nice kicking action.

I find Ahern has too many quiet games. Duggan, Lamb, and Viojo-Rainbow are higher than I'd have them.

Overall a pretty good attempt and not that far different to what others will have.

I see Duggan as a really good skillfull midfielder a lot like gaff.
Lamb I see could become a gun or a dud.
Has the talent but it is actually up to him.
Viojo- rainbow I see as a fantastic kick coming off half back.

I see merit in them reaching for the % chance that they get a Star.

They have a lot of good players and still Garner and Dumont somewhere in the wings but not looking like that "star" talent.

Be bold North. Look for a Star talent, no matter how small the likely %.

If you miss?..meh. You've got plenty of good players as is.

There are so many non athletic types who have in a sense hidden upside. That Matt Priddis fella did pretty well winning the Browlow last night. Who would have thought? People so frequently wrongly associate upside with athleticism and guys who have flashy games. I see upside in more those who show continued strong improvement from year to year. I also see a whole bunch of guys getting horribly underrated in this draft.

All of Bampton, Blakely, Neal-Bullen and Gore as examples are significantly better than people are recognising them to be and Bampton and Blakely particularly of those guys really have the scope to become exceptionally high level midfielders. With Bampton able to become a Tom Liberatore equivalent and Blakely a James Kelly equivalent in this draft. Or from a value standpoint as Luke Parker and Rory Sloane in recent enough years have mid draft really similarly prove bargain selections if selected outside the first round as some guys who will likely be among the best in the draft.

My advise to clubs is don't get sucked into "upside guys." Typically they are guys who don't have the performances on the board. Play it smart and go the well performed guys who have proven they can play. If they have special ability and have the strong performances on the board, that is when you can hit the jackpot and that's an example of a well identified upside guy.

I get what you are saying. As a general recruiting philosophy.

But when they have special ability AND they have strong performance on the board then they are gone by Pick 15(North's Pick). North have performed admirably for years and been around that double digit selection for their 1st Pick. They have identified and selected plenty of good players too.

I just think they need to be bold, even if it's a risk of a bust.

I notice you have Menadue as their 1st pick. Maybe he is that guy who just might turn into that special player, not just a good player. Maybe it's McKenzie.

Lamb has the ability, athleticism and physique to be something more than "good". Maybe he'll be a bust...who knows. 193cm 80+ kilo's, great athlete, great ability and only an immature baby(late October birthday).

I really think, and hope, North are in the position to be bold.

Knightmare Just thought I'd let you know, you mentioned this a few pages back, can't remember where but you were discussing Toby Mclean and said he's off to the state combine. Not sure if you know now, but he was upgraded to the main one along with three others: Teia Miles, Oscar Macdonald and Bailey Dale.
