our Tall forwards Cloke , JA and Fraser have done Bugger all last 2 weeks and look really lost.

I see this is a our Achlies Heel as Cloke done nothing really since his 2007 Copleand Year, JA is not a Main Target and Fraser is just New.

I reckon we give Dawes a Go as he would at least be no worse then the other 3.

Dawes is worth a shot at this stage. Though today Cloke and Jack were never in with a chance today, given the pathetic ball movement and "bomb and hope" forward entry system with employed.

id love to see N. brown tried as a permanent chf or full forward... this kid has size, strength, pace and isnt afraid to use his body... also, already has great defensive skills... i just wonder if his marking and leading skills would be up to scratch... his kicking would be fine and he'd be a beast to match up on..

Brent Maccaffer ? He might not be the tallest player going around. But he can take a grab and was a main goal kicker back in hes junior career. Looked very promising in finals last year.

He jumps off two feet and isn't great overhead. Would be a good FB if he would start in front of his man or even with him rather than from behind.

from what we've seen our from KPFs so far id still like to see what he could bring to the table..

Nah maybe a year too late. we'll need him (n.brown) in the backline when presti retires.

dawes for me kicked a couple bags lately, in form, anthony out of form. i dont see why not.

and we got rusling aswell, should be back in the next couple weeks, maybe this week even..

i cant wait for the rusler to regain his spot in our forward line... as for dawesy i forget about him - he needs a fair crack at it.. id be willing to be if jack puts in another shocker he'll be losing his spot to one of these guys..

but i dont know why we should be taking out anthony cos he gets his 2-3 goals per week. but if we want this premiership he has to stand up with a bag of 3-4 per week and cloke. they are young but we want them to be a fev and brown combination NOW.

adding the extra height of a rusling and dawes in the forward line will be awesome.

Having for example:

HF: didak cloke rusling
FF: anthony dawes medhurst

not even st.kildas defense could stop that.

Anothony has been out of sorts for a while, and Cloke.... Well....? Give him a few more weeks perhaps.

Anthony is ALWAYS out of position and he's timing is terrible. Bringing Rusling or Dawes in wont do any harm at all. Its not as if we'll be losing a 6 goal a week full forward.

Is it just me or do we have to many small forwards?

Exactly that. Move it slowly down the wing, get our 50 crowded and force us to bomb it in. Not ideal for any forward. It's no surprise we didn't have any dangerous forwards.

Admittedly they didn't perform even when we beat the Dogs. So I'm not opposed to bringing in Dawes to give them a reality check.

I said to dad yesterday, we can not win a premiership with Jack at full-forward. I notice his set shots on goal come from him floating over a pack generally, and they don't come cheaply.

It's rare you'll ever see Jack find the footy in space on the lead or out body his opponent, which is something he always looks to do.

Problem is, it has to be Rusling, because he is the only player on our list, taller than 186cm, I can see kicking multiple goals regularly against better opposition, and it's because he actually has a weapon.

Rusling at full-forward has the ability to change our gameplan as we then have a target our player can put the ball out in front of with confidence.

Dawes is slow and has very ordinary hands.

Just a note. Cloke takes his glove off now when kicking for goal. That should improve things.

Jack is also the wrong FF for Cloke. Cloke's at his best when he moves but since the loss of Rocca his game is caught between leading and staying at home and it's messed up his patterns.
Dawes seems like a far more logical player to play deep that I think would bring out the best in Cloke. And I can't see Dawes getting any less touches than Jack does.

I would not Call Dawes slow and he is quite Quick for a Big Man but His hands are very Inconsistent

Wonderful post agree with all of it

I cant wait until Rus is fit and moved forward, we will look a different team.

Those wanting Nate moved forward, he just doesnt look very good forward of the ball, yes i saw his first quarter against carlton in 08, yes i saw that one lead against melbourne in 08 but for the most part he gets completely lost

Personally, I don't care how Jack kicks goals as long as he kicks them.

On the lead, many players can kick goals, however, it is rare to be able to out-body your opponent in a contest and take a grab- that is a trait that sets good key forwards apart from one another. Jack is still learning this but he is improving and the signs are there.

Jack has kicked plenty of goals on the lead throughout his career thus far too so it isn't a problem as it is made out to be. Yesterday, there simply wasnt any space for our forwards to lead into which was why we had to kick the footy over the top with Jack and Cloke and whoever doubling back into the space.

I'm a Rus fan as much as anyone, however, it makes no difference where inside 50 forwards set-up. If you cannot find space or the midfield cannot kick the ball into the space for the forwards to lead into, it is useless- as evident yesterday by our lack of ability to spot up targets and inability to win the stoppages.

However, I do agree that Rus is a "weapon" and he would compliment Jack very well IMO as Jack is very strong overhead considering he still needs to add on more bulk to his frame.

I don't feel Jack uses space well at all to be honest. I think you could give Jack an open 50 and he would still look for body.

In my opinion, Jack has gone backwards and rapidly.

He had a real feel about him early last year, and it has just seemed to disappear.

people are being hard on jack - 4 of his last 6 opponents were lake, scarlett, rutten, lake. the other 2 games were stkilda where our midfield was absolutely smashed, and yesterday where the whole team was shocking.

Is Rus still being played down back in the VFL?
Yes. I can only hope it's until the VFL season proper begins, or until he reaches some pre-determined level of fitness.

You're most probably right, but I think the feeling is that we need to get something out of a key position forward to win a premiership, Jack is playing that role.

He still has a lot to offer and will eventually bounce back, but at this stage we do have to ask the questions, and it makes for good discussion.

Jack had a limited pre-season which hasn't helped his cause, but at this stage he hasn't seemed to improve on any of his limitations he carried last year which I think is why we're asking questions.
