Toast Kudos to the AFC

Rendell said they were asking a rediculous proce and we didn't nominate any players for the draft....Smoke and Mirrors by the big fella.

We should all know by now not to trust anything that comes out of the mouth of that evil genius!

Its amazing isnt it?

Despite whats been virtually a complete and utter vindication of the criticisms levelled at the club over the past few years, there are still people who are desperate to portray those who made those criticisms as anti afc pointless complainers.

How you can simultaneously rejoice in the new path the club has taken, whilst claiming that there was nothing wrong with the old is beyond me.

Who's doing that? My post was there because I was happy that after a dark year, we finally had a reason to be positive going forward. I'm all for criticising the club when they get it wrong, but equally think they should be given some praise when they get it right.

A lot of water to go undeer the bridge yet, but I like what I see under the new 'regime' so far.

Another thing that we're doing that I'm really liking is going after blokes with excellent footskills. Seems like that is going to be more of a priority under Sando.

I noted this in another thread. He did make a strong point of footskills in particular when he was given the job so it's good to see it's having an effect down the track with recruitment.

This. I never want to hear the phrase 'he's an excellent athlete and we can work on his skills' from an AFC official again.

I have a feeling aggressive tackling will be high on the Sanderson/Milburn/Bickley agenda too. Love how we are building our coaching group. Still not sure our trade week is as brilliant as everyone says it is though.

Amazing what embracing a positive attitude to change can do.
Im not impressed by the gunston or the maric trade. To only get pick 24 is useless. We should have tried for 16 which could at least give us a chance at Grigg. Also Richmond not wanting to give us back the bock comp pick for maric which we paid for Tambling is a loss. Richmond realise they screwed us last year and wanted to stay on top

Dangerfield isn't elite. Has has the tools to become elite but he's not there yet. He still lacks lateral movement, composure and the ability to win easy ball. With more experience and coaching he should be able to polish these areas to the degree where he's able to take the next step. Obviously his speed, strength and game-breaking ability is already at a very high level. However he is not a complete player by any means yet.

Sloane isn't elite. His contested ball is probably in that category but he still - like Dangerfield - need to add a lot more polish to other areas before he takes a step into that category. He really improved his consistency this year which was great to see but he still needs to tidy up the basic skills as these let him down on too many occasions. However, it is absolutely correctable and will just take some more time at being exposed to AFL level.

Mackay isn't elite. He still flunctuates in and out of games which is preventing him from being a top shelf player. To be fair, he's spent much of the last few years recovering from injuries, but this in itself is an ongoing problem for Dave and something that really needs to be addressed if he is going to become a consistent AFL player. He absolutely has the tools to be an elite specialist wingman - good pace, smooth mover and excellent foot skills - but until he establishes consistency he cannot be considered elite.

We have a lot of potential elite on our list but very few who have actually put it together. Thompson has. Johncock. Rutten. Tippett is almost there but has stalled. That's about it. We have a really good group of 19-21 year olds who have the ability to be elite. Their development thus far has been pretty good but at this stage they're still a far way away from being in the elite category - however, improvement can happen very very fast and there's no reason to put limits on them.

Can't disagree with any of this...none of this group could be considered elite. Scott T is our only player in the elite category.:thumbsu:

Couldn't agree more. I point this out every time someone mentions the West Coast rising to the bottom last year to top 4 this year thinking we could so similar.

In the midfield you're certainly correct. I'd put Rutten arguably in this category as well - but it's slim pickings after that

Johncock at his best is elite too.

We need some of our kids now to start stepping up into this bracket. Many of them have the potential - will they realise it?

I think the best part about this trade week is that goes some way to making up for the fact that we basically bottomed out at the worst possible time. We would have had picks 6 and 4 over the last two years under normal circumstances, which would have meant access to the real top end talent. Instead, we've lost an AA standard CHB, and his pick 10 replacement, and only have a bunch of mid-range picks to show for it. We've been shitty, and circumstances, largely out of our control, have not helped us at all. But grabbing Crouch was a real gutsy move, and, if he turns into the player we hope he does, we'll have something to show for a pretty rough patch. I am glad we're being proactive.

Aiden Riley wont be an orphan anymore.

Since Trigg got all fired up when Gunston said he was going there appears to have been a real change in attitude at the Adelaide Football Club, I think this change was probably growing with our poor season and the defection of Davi$ but the Trigg speech was the public turning point.
The club appears to have lost the "nice guy" approach and it's all about a vision that Sando and friends have layed out. They have used the negatives of a few players wanting out and turned that around into a real plan to bring identified players to our club, players they believe will be beneficial. The crafty way in which they have snaffled Crouch & Brown was excellent and for the first time we have edged out the other clubs to gain some potential elite talent - for that well done.
I am hoping these changes will manifest into a strong culture at the club, one that will excite the players and the fans - I am also hoping that it spills over into our game plan and with our more aggresive attitude off field we will try a more physical , ruthless approach once on the oval. We were well over due for changes in various areas and I hope this is just the start, bring on seasons 2012/13!

Crows now have Johnston (12) & Lynch (13) from the 1st rd of the 2008 draft. They picked Phil Davis at 10 the same year.

Two top 20 picks, both SA boys both good legs and didn't pay overs for either.

Super week's work AFC. Kudos indeed. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Every thing is looking rosy except our ruck stocks. If sauce gets injured we would be relying on Tippett. IF WE STILL HAVE HIM!!!!! Must pick up another tall man from somewhere

Hence why we are showing strong interest in Josh Jenkins. Nobes confirmed that he had a medical with us. Hopefully it comes off and we trade for him. Sounds like an intriguing prospect.

Emma has said that the suns are also interested in Jenkins although why they would need another ruckman I have no idea.
He is from QLD isn't he?! Maybe they thing that in 12 months time they will trade Gorringe for Tippett ;)

Jenkins would have some attraction of returning back home but I somehow think he would have more chance to play with us than GC.

Sellar's still on the list.

As is James Craig.

Surely if they were to make a play for Jenkins, they'd have to offload one (or both) of Tom Nicholls and Tom Hickey. Otherwise their ruck stocks look like this:

Z Smith>Gorringe>Hickey>Nicholls>Fraser>Jenkins

All in the era of the sub rule, where it is usually only viable to play one full time ruck + ruck/forward.
