Recommitted Lachie Schultz [re-signed until 2023]

One of the more underrated players around, combo of Freo + small forward + being "rookie listed" for list management reasons rather than being a spud.

Would have liked him at North.

Should stay at Freo but if Hawks get him for free I'd be thinking it's worth bumping his offer up 25-30k a year considering he'd be coming over as DFA - no trade cost, doesn't bump your own picks down with FA compo dilution.

I assume he is after more than a $30k boost. Unless he really just wants to return to VIC.

He's not a delisted free agent, simply an unrestricted free agent.

Not many club want out of contract rookie list players and normally they just wait for him to get delisted. There is a reason current club relegated him to rookie list also . He is not even on Barlow , Deboer or Crozier level to get compensated for 3rd round pick .

I agree , token pick but second Rd and third Rd is not a token pick . This type of players is perfect for pre season draft. Current Club don't value him to offer senior list spot .

The afl allowed players to move from the main list to the rookie list without going through the draft. We had inappropriately contracted a few potatoes for 2022. So we had to either lose David Mundy or move Schultz to the rookie list. He needed to improve on his 2020 output and only scored a 1 year contract. He did improve in 2021 and is now firmly entrenched in our best 22. Now he sits on the rookie list awaiting a contract. In fact we’ve offered a 2 year deal. So he’s hardly a fringe rookie listed player who doesn’t get games.

Yes is me, i think people need to be realistic about getting second or third round draft pick from rookie list player. Cerra also happy in the west but family want him to be back , Schultz case is more about three years contract Fremantle willing to offer, I believe if he get delisted Hawthorn can sign him up as SPP recruit for maximum three years on the rookie list, Smart play by Hawthorn offer one more year security.

Even with the inevitable departure of Cerra to Carlton, The Dockers are building a strong young core of very good young talent..

Hopefully they are able to attract some decent homesick WA kids/players to their books in the next few years .
