Let's get creative with trades

I think we just thank Thomas and move him on . If we upgrade him through the year we are just stifling the development of our first few draftees. Let's face it , we are not gonna win the flag next year. We'll more than likely just scrape finals again so we have to build towards a premiership. Pettard and Knights are enough already. It's gotta stop.

I concur.

??? What do you mean back?? I mean backup for injured mids (as in he only gets elevated due to a LTI....). Is that what you were saying?
I think that's what he was saying but let's just move him on. Why do we nurture duds all the time. He'll be stifling the development in VFL as well. We'll have Newman to do the motivating there and that's enough.

Definitely should not upgrade him. Jacko retiring makes me nervous that they might make a nervous and what they may see as 'safe' decision. I don't mind him as a rookie for one more but only to come up as a LTI replacement, not a promoted rookie before rnd 1....

Yeah, I agree, I'd prefer him to be moved on but I could live with him as a rookie under the conditions I had in the other post.... I am not advocating for him to stay though.... far from it.

Yeah but he's still stealing valuable time on the ball off a future star . It's just silly as he turns it over so much. He should not be allowed to play in the same team as Trent Cotchin I'm convinced of that.

Have we had a definitive answer on whether or not TV can be traded given he signed a contract extension this season?

If people are interpreting that he can, then consider this. So could Griff, Ellis, Titch and anyone else who signed this year. There are no exceptional circumstances with any of them that I can think of that would satisfy the AFLPA and the AFL. It would also render all contract talk throughout seasons as irrelevant..... Players could just sign on to shut the media up, knowing full well that they could just request a trade due to extenuating circumstances or whatever they wanted..... Obviously the club would have to agree to the trade but I'm just not sure any of this is correct. When was the last time it happened in the AFL. Or was it a loophole that has been closed?

I'm tipping that he can't be traded this off-season.... happy for confirmation from someone either way. Not an interpretation but a ruling from the AFL or the RFC. RFC_Official perhaps? Is TV and the RFC bound to each other until at least the end of 2015 (I know the contract goes longer but 2015 would be the first effective year of his contract I think) regardless of whether both are happy to stay or agree to part ways (not retire but be traded to another team)?

I'd give astbury and Ellis for dangerfield
You dont need to give up any player to get Dangerfield !!
Adelaide will not trade him & Even if they wanted to - They cant he is a contracted player until the end of 2015
He will then become a RFA , So you will need very very deep pockets and im talking $6mill/5 years range
So that puts us way out of the ball park
I'd be looking to trade Grigg to a club to upgrade our second round pick. I wonder if Brisbane or GWS would take him ?
This is actually not a bad idea,But not sure Brisbane would really take him and they would know better than any team due to leppa of his issue's. But i would love to move him onto either StKilda or Melbourne who he would really suit Daniel Markworth (stkilda) Jimmy Toumpas (melbourne) would be suitable trades as both these kids are highly talented outside players that could come good at Tigerland
Let's start by retiring Newman , delist Thomas and trade Hampson to GWS for their 5th round pick. Go deep deep deep into the draft and Use our last pick on Mckernan. rookie Norwoods Ruckman ( forget his name).

Trade our first round pick for Hoskin Elliot or Dylan Shiel, use our second round pick on the best available mid, use our third round pick on the fastest outside player with the most skill preferably between 186-190cm .

Use our 4th round pick on the fastest outside player with the most skill preferably between 186-190cm

Use out 5th round pick on the fastest outside player preferably between 186-190cm
You had me until here, Then you said trade McDonough
Nathan Jones would be handy..

This is the exact player that we really need at tigerland, He becomes a free agent next year and we should be right in his ear that he is the only player we need to take us to the next level and he will be our Gary Ablett Jnr, Sell him the dream that he 'WILL' Play in a flag at RFC and all our players are in position and we just missing him, Also give him $2.5Million for 4 years (He is woth that and at Richmond he will be a monster in the midfield)

NATHAN JONES SHOULD BE BLAIR HARTLEYS #1 PRIORITY

To bridge the gap. We need to do something drastic.

We are not near a flag. Not close enough to be complacent.

Be daring. Be bold. Make statements.

Looks like signing Dal Santo has pushed North over that middling hump. I wish we signed him and had him playing Grigg's role. Not that I think they can win the flag but they're closer than us.

I fear right now we will be stuck around the same spot for the next few years without ever pushing top 4 and winning finals before the window closes.

TV can be traded is he gives consent to the deal as far as im aware.

I have the same fear. We are carrying too many battlers. Newman, Petterd, Grigg, Thomas, Morris etc just shouldn't be considered.

We need more quality injected onto the side.

Yep and u can blame Damien for that, he refuses to give others game time. Dea should b in the side everyday of tr week over Morris. Morris goes hard at it but this year he was a massive liability.

Pretty certain this time last year I said this exact thing. That if we wanted to make the jump into the top 4 we needed to get more A graders otherwise we'd be in the same position which ended up happening.

Trade him for his cousin

I hope you're joking...

What can we do though? Who's really out there that is going to push us to top 4? Sure players like montagna will be an upgrade, these types of players might help, but they aren't going to sky rocket us into a premiership contender. As above posters have said, we still have too many battlers and too many players who crumble once there is any intensity. We really need to hope another pre-season really accelerates the development of some of our players or above posters have said we will languish around 5-8 till our window disappears. Deledio will be 28 next year, Jack 27, Cotch 25, Ivan 29, Rance 26, but late next year. These are our most important players. Some people say five years?? These players will all be hitting 30. Our window is the next 2-3 years. Even the great Ricky Petterd will turn 27 next year. God help us when he retires.

Unfortunately north are ahead of us now, when we were once pretty even (this might change after Petrie and Harvey retire). But they are one game off a grand final appearance right now. Port have clearly over taken us. Next will be Gold coast.

They are in the draft!. We need to trade out players!
