Liam Jurrah - Gun or Hack?

Pretty meh poll when you didn't include any middle ground. Hugely talented but won't take the AFL by storm this year. An outside chance to take the AFL by storm in 2012 perhaps if everything else goes right.

Took team by surprise last year. I can't see that happening again this year.

He will be a very good player but probably not much more.

Obviously talented, but it will be interesting to see how he reponds to being their number 1 forward. Every week he'll be playing in a side likely behind and on a gun defender.

If he's in the VFL by years end, it wouldn't surprise.

And that, in essence, is the problem. Jurrah is an exciting and somewhat freakish talent, who'll have his hot and cold days, but he should be the icing on the cake, not the key 'go to' man.

He needs strong support around him and he won't have it this year.

I quite like Jurrah. It seems that some of you think he's shit. I can tell you he would beat you hands down in a marking contest.

20 goals in 9 games for the wooden spooners and apparently people are saying he's a hack.
Why use stats?

In 2009, Robertson kicked 29 goals in 13 games.

Does that make Robertson a gun?

Jurrah is about as good as Jack Riewoldt or Mitch Morton...

All three shouldn't be the number one or two targets for their struggling sides...

Bad example though, seeing as everyone on these forums as they are at present would be a hack at AFL level.

As for jurrah, the melb fans have a lot to be excited about, but the boy needs support in order to develop into the role expected of him in the future.

very talented but seems another wayward aboriginal in terms of consistancy, bear in mind he's come from the middle of nowhere and barefoot footy, will take a few years to adapt, but in the long run feel it will pay dividends, id have him

I disagree about Riewoldt, I think he'd make a serviceable 2nd tall (ideally we'd be able to play him as a third tall but if that ever happens we'll be sitting very pretty). He lacks the outstanding physical attributes necessary to beat the oppositions best back on a regular basis (you generally either need outstanding strength, height, speed, or endurance to consistently beat the best key back), and so would be inconsistent at best as a first tall, but I think he'd do a decent job as a second tall once he's fully developed, and be able to kick 55+ a year.

Morton on the other hand shouldn't even be near a key defender, he's only 184 cm and is ultimately a high half forward/midfielder that we've had to play closer to the goals due to a lack of targets down forward.

Robertson was also a veteran last year, whilst Jurrah was a first-year player, so that comparison is totally inappropriate and doesn't help your argument at all.

If he was playing for your club, you would love the guy.

I think Jurrah has been pretty consistent so far, he kicked a goal in each of his games, and kicked 4 goals three times in his first 9 matches.

Further, it isn't as if you'd expect a rookie to be perfectly consistent in any case, so I can't really see how you can fault his ability to deliver on a regular basis at this point in time.

I think ill vote jack watts as he isnt a gun (yet) and definately isnt a hack. Leaning towards gun rather then hack so jack watts wins

Yeah I have to agree with this one.
