the levi greenwood rumours are very true.

If Jacobs holds firm and wants to go home expect him to be the trade.

im not convinced port are desperate enough for him to make a lopsided trade.

I may be alone, but right now and striaght trade of these two in my opinion puts us on the losing end of that one. I'm not sure abound injury status, but Levi played only 5 games this season. I guess that's the problem you have when a young player coming out of contract tries to move on so early in their career.

im not convinced port are desperate enough for him to make a lopsided trade. They will try and it North plays hardball he will stay there and we will go again in 2013 trade period. The view is he can play Kane Cornes role in 2014 onwards I believe......

Lycett is still being kept in touch with too FWIW

As one of those who has not seen much of Greenwood, who gets the better end of the deal in a straight Jacobs-Greenwood swap, or is that pretty even?

Irrespective of abilities, how do measure someone who wants to be here as opposed to someone who doesn't (from appearances anyway).

North would get the better deal.

Greenwood and a late pick for Jacobs and Banner?
Greenwood for Banner would be about as fair as you could get. Go home boys.

Can we keep Jacobs for one more year?

I think if a new coach can instill confidence into him he can be a great player, then if the new coach can't get him playing exceptable footy then we trade him for Levi

Around the same of Matthew Primus getting the Carlton Head Coach

maybe greenwood and speight in a package deal speight not getting a game and would give us run and carry although both not getting a game at a average side but have heard there is a boys club at the roos at the minute and these 2 boys obvious arent in it. Although he does like melb life could want more game time like greenwood. I think we have a good chance to refresh our list abit this year as long as we dont pay overs lets go for it .We could get a few new players for not much loss ie jurrah psd or rookie a trade or 2 and a free agent or 2 . I think our young group mite surprise a few in a couple of years.

this year greenwood is around 5th i think for clangers in the afl and averages about 13 disposals. has been an injury interrupted year though the year before was a bit better. as mentioned greenwood would be one of those guys that is on the 16- 22 spots of our list. an upgrade on alot of the guys around that mark.

definately would walk away if north ask too much. jacobs has far far more potential and would not want him involved in that trade at all. if jacobs went ild look for a similarly aged kid to come home, ie brad mackenzie /seb tape/ etc.

as ive said before if chaplin tells us he wants to go to richmond we ask richmond what they are prepared to give us. restricted free agency is designed this way. they are in our top percentile so we dont have to let them walk, sure it probably reduces your bargaining power its designed that way, to influence teams into being more likely to facilitate a trade.

with that in mind if chaplin wants out to richmond ild suggest chappy + 3rd round for richmonds 2 2nd round picks. one 2nd round is the activated compo straight after ours ( pick 29ish at a guess) the other is richmonds 2nd round pick which would be in the high 30's. a pick around 30 + an upgrade of around a dozen spots on our 3rd isnt a huge ask i think. whether they agree i dont know but i certainly dont let him walk to another team. we dont have to. also, ild like to see banner for one more year but if he wants out ild certainly use him as part of this deal. chaplin + banner + 3rd round for richmond two 2nd round picks is fine with me.

then ild send the 2nd round after our pick to carlton for macarthy and the later 2nd round to north for greenwood.

i understand there are rumours of pearce not wanting to stay. i really hope he stays because i for one am a huge huge fan of his run in our side.

but, if he did want out, again he is restricted. we dont let him walk to the club of his choice. unless of course he goes to gws, in which case we have no choice but get a likely end of first round compo. if that happened we could have the choice of keeping it but personally i really like some of the guys deep in the draft ( mcdonough/ mackay/ ballard / rodda/white etc) so ild shop it to gws/gc for their 2nd + 3rd and another 3rd round picks. i doubt very much gc/gws have much interest in their 3rd round picks and could likely acquire another pretty easily in their dealings. we lose maybe 1 or 2 spots in that transaction but gain 2 3rd rounders.

or of course pearce wants to go to a vic club, we hold out for a trade. again look to bring one of those young guys home like mackenzie/ tape etc.

philthy, that almost reads like its from the Rohde playbook.

Summary:

LOSE:
Chaplin - a mostly competent AFL key position backman that we have no obvious replacement for
Banner - an ok fringe midfielder that might do well under a coach that is not choco or choco-lite

GAIN:
Levi Greenwood - a flanker who has hit a patch of indifferent form (only played 5 games this year) and whose main attraction is being a Port Magpie. An upgrade of Tom Logan maybe.

Patrick McCarthy - a scrawny tall defender (at peak value was worth a second round pick in 2010) who played one game this year and had a season-ending groin injury the year before and has provided zero reason for anyone to think he can even vaguely fill Troy's shoes.

And for the privilege of failing to replace the players we lose, we also give up a third round pick?

I didn't say you want him gone, but why would you chase a deal that sees us unable to replace Chaplin as a key backman, and that adds players with suspect recent histories including injury that have played just 6 games between them in 2012?

shit man if you can name a chaplin replacement we can get as part of the chaplin deal ild love to hear it.

What about Silvagni?

Jonas, Silvagni and Trengove could be ok accompanied by Pittard, Stewart and Hartlett

If Chappy is going to Richmond, then keeping it simple starts with a guy like Jayden Post who apparently is on the way out of the club anyway.
