Please try to leave the sentimentality out of this thread, but what can happen now Edwards is gone?

As I understand it, we have our primary list of 38, with Goody and Macca as outside list veterans, taking us up to 40. We've promoted three rookies - Henderson, Schmidt and Jaensch, after putting Otten, Moran and Martin on the LTI list.

Does Edwards free up a spot on the list, and are Moran or Martin likely to come back any time soon? If they do come back, does that mean a promoted rookie has to drop back?

Also, what is Tyson's future? Will he finish the year with Westies (and couldn't they use him!), will he take a job at the AFC? I'm sure he still has a lot to offer footy. Or something completely different?

I’m not prompting anything but if Brett Burton or Trent Hentschel have another setback, i suspect the club will ask them to retire because of injury and then that will free up another spot. Burton isn’t on the LTI list but Hentschel is and he would be due back soon. He is due back in 3 to 4 weeks, more fluid and another operation would be it for him.

I would say that there is a good chance that there is already a red pen through both players name

Both players are forwards and the club needs to provide scope and opportunity for Norman and Henderson

Correct so far...

No, with Edwards gone we're effectively down to 39 players until the end of the year. If his retirement was due to injury then we'd be able to place him on the LTI and upgrade a rookie replacement - but as it was due to form we just have to live with it.

Martin is due to reappear around R14, give or take. Moran is almost certainly gone for the season. Martin's return would normally force a promoted rookie back to the rookie list - but the club can elevate a rookie "for free" (no LTI listed player required) from R12 onwards. That said, they may still choose to drop Jaensch back to the rookie list and replace him with Wright or Riley - depends on how badly he burned his bridges after his boozy night out with Vince.

The reason he retired was because he was dropped and didn't want to play for Westies. Can't say that I blame him either. His professional football career will come to an end next week, at the conclusion of the Freo game. He might choose to play in the amateur leagues, playing for fun and following the leads of Roo, Jarman and others, but that's about the extent of it.

Hypothetically if Edwards was to get injured in his final game against Freo, say a serious hamstring/groin/abdominal tear with 2 minutes to go in the last quarter could we then put him on the LTI list and elevate a rookie?

Things like that need to be medically signed off on by a practicing doctor. And any doctor working for any AFL has a little thing called integrity so I doubt they would do anything unethical by alleging an injury was something more than it actually was.

I thought they turned up to training sober - didn't think alcohol was involved?

You could be right, but the quote I recall hearing was that he didn't want to stand in the way of a young player in the Adelaide team?

I heard Chris Knights is going to miss the rest of the season so we might have one more spot for a promoted rookie. Hopefully it will be Matthew Wright or Aiden Riley.

I think you'll find it was involved, but wasn't really a factor. The whole things been blown out of proportion anyway, theirs was a minor offence met harshly due to the leadership groups desire to maintain high standards and not have players start to disregard team rules just because our seasons gone.
