2025

Retired

Atkins
Boak

Trade for the right price
Lord
Soldo

Delist
Willams
Anastasopolous
McEntee
Finlayson
Charleson

2026

Soldo
Mead
Barrett
Rioli

Possible
Moraes
Burton
Liddy
Lorenz
Jackson

Reasons - this is cutting deep - as much as I'd like to cut really deep this year in a supposed poor draft with no picks its not worthwhile. Williams - speed Anas and McEntee - ability Finlayson - attitude Charleson - can't get the ball.

The next year we should look at the guys who aren't reliable kicks which means Liddy, Moraes and Lorenz. Mead goes and Rioli if he continues to have fitness issues. Barrett goes unless he can improve his contested game. Burton gets looked at if he can't stay fit. Jackson would want to have a consistent season in 2026. He is inconsistent on the field as well as with his body.

How many can we seriously delist this year?
I was hoping for at least 10 but don’t think the numbers work out.

We have the 3 extras from the mid-season draft and they're all staying.

LIST MANAGEMENT

While a total cleanout is not necessary by Carr, I think it should be important to set standards as they have been lacking in the Hinkley regime. I think we should be a bit more harsh with our cuts this year, really get rid of the crud as best we can.

I don't want to see:

talentless players
bad attitudes
gold passes
injured players
old players
fat players

A lot of these have already been called by a fair few posters.

ALREADY RETIRED

Boak - probably two years too late and I'm sure he's enjoying retirement. I hope he moves on from the club. His loser, football attitude is not good for the club.

Atkins - we enjoy the cap space now

RETIRE OR DELIST OR TRADE

Jeremy Finlayson - just a poor attitude. He's got to go. He definitely has talent as a utility but is never, ever consistent with it. He has to be very close to a delist.

Jed McEntee - supposedly played well recently but just doesn't have it. Gifted 50 games and a poster child of Hinkley's poor selections ending in loses. He has to be very close to a delist.

Dylan Williams - gets fit in a contract year. Been very inconsistent over the journey. Beautiful kick but painfully slow. Poor attitude. He has to be very close to a delist.

Ivan Soldo- enjoyed the early games he played but injured and not the best attitude. We definitely overpaid for him. Has not done much recently. Even his girlfriend has a bad attitude. He has to be very close to a delist.

Thomas Anastasopoulos - with a plethora of small to medium forwards coming in last off season, it showed Tommy A was probably half way out of the door. He has to be very close to a delist.

Lachie Charleson - basically the same as Anasta but has kicked a few more goals at SANFL level. Been jumped over by Richards, Berry, Mackinlay, etc. He has to be very close to a delist.

Ollie Lord - been given a decent run this year and wasn't able to capitalise on it. Average form at best. He has to be very close to a delist or traded.

Ryan Burton - injured and a long a Hinkley favourite, his knee seems too much for him. He has to be in the delist conversation.

AREAS OF CONCERN

Todd Marshall - contracted till 2029 with concussion issues. I hope they all go away but I seriously doubt it.

Sam Powell-Pepper - half a year after an ACL, does the other ACL. A big concern.

Willie Rioli - I don't want to sound like Liberace or the bloke who looks after the cheerleaders but he might need a weigh in or he is delisted. Our best small forward but his weight has eroded our standards and it is better to not have him fat in the team than in the team but the standards slipping.

BRINGING PLAYERS IN

I'm still unsure about our ruck situation.
A big bodied midfielder to replace Wines when he retires.
Another tall forward
Another tall defender
Third tall marking defender

We will know a lot about Carr as the news about the team comes out.

It sounds like the AFL is throwing a few ideas out to clubs including a moratorium on draftable players - top 5, top 10, first round have all been mentioned. So they're basically untouchable except as 'pure' draft picks.

The changes could be implemented as soon as next year.

Needless to say, the clubs are incensed.
Getting out of the top 5 or 10 is as easy as refusing to speak to clubs not attending the draft camp.

Will not work.

In this draft you’d potentially be replacing them with even worse players.

Some of our list sucks, but it needs a measured response
Was thinking the same, no use replacing rubbish with the same rubbish.
Need to find a way of moving on some of the contracted players but that’s a long shot also.

Retire: Boak, Atkins
Delist: Finlayson, Burton, McEntee, Williams, Anastasopoulos, Barrett
Trade: Lord

Not sure if anyone would be interested in a contracted Soldo or Mead.

That’s close to the amount of outs we need to process.
With the picks we have how do we replace the delist/ retire ones?
There’s 8 in total

In my scenario, we lose 9 players (1 being a cat b rookie), we've also got 3 extra MSD players so really we only need to bring in 5 players + 1 cat B rookie.

Draft 3 players, + another Cat B rookie.
Trade in 2 players on the cheap Will Brodie + the best young KPF on an AFL list that's playing well in the VFL.

Lord hopefully can give us something of value so we don't have to mess with our 2026 picks to do the trades.

Would it be worth looking at Draper
Fits our age profile and is definitely an upgrade on Finlayson & Lord
Plus would add a new twist to showdowns

If we trade Lord, I wouldn’t mind keeping Finlayson on a one-year contract at minimum. I’d move Charleson on, taking the opportunity to rookie him or perhaps explore the state leagues to see what’s available. Burton could wait until the end, just in case we can’t find a better small or medium defender.
I get what your saying, but the point of moving Finlayson is because he has a shit attitude and Carr needs to instill the highest level of on field standards

Which we didn’t necessarily get under Hinkley

Port does have a shitload of cash. I would consider it if as expected Soldo requests a trade back to Vic and Port delists Finlayson and trading Lord.

There seems to be the expectation that the AFL will remove the sub and instead opt for five on the bench. If that happens, Port could potentially explore playing two rucks.
True but id rather just have Whitlock as forward and ruck and use that extra spot for on ball or something that has more output.

Personally, I would rather Whitlock to focus on playing as a forward for the time being as he builds his body. He has shown he could play as a 2nd ruck at SANFL level but isn't big enough yet to handle that burden at AFL level.

I'm leaving all options open. As long as it helps improves Port's depth.
